Chapter 125 Let’s Have a Baby
At dawn, Yun Tangyin was awakened by the chirping of birds on the windowsill.
She opened her eyes and saw Fu Yucheng sitting on the kang, cleaning his gun. The morning light shone through the window paper onto the back of his hand, polishing the gun to a shine.
"Awake?" Fu Yucheng put down his gun and stuffed a hot water bottle into her bed. "There's some millet porridge warming up on the stove. I added a handful of red dates. It's your favorite."
Yun Tangyin curled up in bed and laughed: "Didn't you say yesterday that you were going to the army this morning? Why haven't you gone yet?"
"I'll wait for you to have breakfast together." Fu Yucheng tidied up her hair. "Old Zhang asked me to bring over the batch of military canteen covers that my second brother had woven. The soldiers are waiting to use them."
He suddenly pulled out a red silk bag from his pocket and said, "This is for you."
Inside the cloth bag was a pair of silver bracelets engraved with twined branch patterns, which perfectly matched Yun Tangyin's silver hairpin.
Just as Yun Tangyin was about to put it on, Fu Yucheng held her hand back and said, "I'll do it."
He put the bracelet on her wrist, and his fingertips accidentally rubbed her skin, like an electric current running through it.
"I made this myself." Fu Yucheng's voice was a little low. "This one is heavy, it can be worn."
Yun Tangyin shook her wrist, and the bracelet made a crisp sound: "It's more beautiful than gold."
She suddenly remembered something and got out of bed, "I almost forgot. The handkerchief I embroidered for you is now dry. There's an eagle embroidered on it. It suits you perfectly."
When the handkerchief was handed to Fu Yucheng, he suddenly grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his arms.
Yun Tangyin bumped into his arms, her nose rubbed against the buttons on his chest, and she smelled the faint scent of soapberry on him.
"Yinyin." Fu Yucheng rested his chin on the top of her head. "After I'm done with this, I'll take you to the county town to see a movie. I heard that 'The Red Detachment of Women' is just coming out."
Yun Tangyin buried her face in his clothes and replied sullenly, "Okay."
At the breakfast table, Fu Yucheng suddenly put a piece of bacon into Yun Tangyin's bowl and said, "I'm off duty this afternoon. I'll take you to the back mountain to pick wild hawthorns. I'll make you hawthorn soup when I come back."
"Didn't you say the army is busy lately?" Yun Tangyin smiled as she scooped up some porridge, "Don't delay our work."
"No matter how busy I am, I have to accompany you." Fu Yucheng put down his chopsticks and took out a small notebook from his arms. "This is my account. The bamboo shop divided the money, and I saved most of it for you. When spring comes, I will buy you some new cloth to make you some spring clothes."
Yun Tangyin looked at the neat handwriting on the account book and put a poached egg in his bowl: "Don't always think about buying things for me. It's time for you to buy some new clothes."
On the way to the back mountain in the afternoon, Fu Yucheng held Yun Tangyin's hand all the time.
The mountain road was difficult to walk on, so he protected her on the inside. When he encountered rocks blocking the way, he bent down and carried her over.
"If you spoil me like this, sooner or later I will be unable to do anything." Yun Tangyin smiled as she lay on his shoulder, the hem of her skirt sweeping across his trouser legs.
"I just want to spoil you." When Fu Yucheng put her down, he suddenly picked a bunch of wild chrysanthemums from behind the tree. "Look at these flowers, they are bright yellow, just like the color of the handkerchief you embroidered."
Yun Tangyin put the flower in her hair and was about to speak when she saw Fu Yucheng squat down and tie a straw rope around her shoes: "The mountain road is slippery, this way you won't slip."
His fingers wrapped around the rope around her ankle, his movements as careful as if he were fiddling with some rare treasure.
When they walked back after picking hawthorns, the setting sun stretched their shadows very long.
He suddenly stopped and took out a small bamboo box from his arms, "This is for you."
There was a ring in the box, a bamboo ring wrapped with a red rope, and a tiny word "City" was engraved on the bamboo ring.
Just as Yun Tangyin was about to put it on, Fu Yucheng stopped her: "I'll get you a gold one when I come back from my next business trip."
"I like this one." Yun Tangyin put the ring on her ring finger. The red string made her finger look even whiter. "I think the bamboo one is better than the gold one."
When they returned home, Fu Yucheng went to the kitchen to cook hawthorn soup first, while Yun Tangyin sat under the lamp embroidering peonies.
Just after she embroidered two stitches, she saw Fu Yucheng come in with soup and a piece of rock sugar in his hand: "I added two pieces of sugar for you, I'm afraid it will make you sour."
Yun Tangyin drank her soup and watched him sitting opposite her cleaning his gun. She suddenly felt that such days were really good.
It’s not grand, but like this hawthorn soup, sour and sweet, warming the heart.
Lying in bed at night, Yun Tangyin listened to Fu Yucheng's breathing and suddenly said, "Next year, let's have a baby. It doesn't matter if he's as lively as Erzhuzi or as quiet as Zhou Ming."
Fu Yucheng suddenly turned around and hugged her: "Okay, it would be best if I had a girl like you, with big eyes, who can embroider, and who can smile. Everything would be good."
He rubbed against her arms and said, "I will love her as much as I love you."
Yun Tangyin laughed and punched him: "You haven't even seen me yet, you only know how to love the girl."
Although I said this, my heart was beating like a little rabbit.
The next morning, Fu Yucheng went to the army.
She stuffed an oil-paper bag into his backpack and said, "There are freshly baked pancakes in it. Eat some when you're hungry."
After Fu Yucheng left, Yun Tangyin sat in the yard to bask in the sun. Looking at the "Fu" character that Fu Yucheng had posted on the wall, she suddenly wanted to embroider a peace amulet for him.
She found the red cloth and was about to start sewing when she saw Fu Yuanshan and Jiang Jianhua coming with baskets.
"I'm bringing you some newly woven bamboo baskets." Fu Yuanshan put the baskets in the yard. "Jianhua said you like her pickled vegetables, so I filled a basket for you."
Jiang Jianhua touched Yun Tangyin's hand and smiled: "Look at this bracelet, it's really beautiful. Ah Cheng really cares about you."
Yun Tangyin stuffed a handful of melon seeds into her hand and said, "How are you guys doing? Erzhuzi isn't being naughty, is he?"
"He's naughty, but he learns quickly," Fu Yuanshan said with a smile. "Yesterday he made a bamboo rifle, and it looked quite realistic. Reporter Li came again and said he wanted to write a story about him, too."
As he was speaking, Fu Yuanzheng suddenly came back, holding a newspaper in his hand: "Second Brother, you're in the regional newspaper! Look at this photo, it's so well taken."
In the newspaper, a photo of Fu Yuanshan teaching children to weave bamboo products took up most of the page, and next to it was a photo of Jiang Jianhua sewing shoe soles.
Yun Tangyin looked at the photo and smiled: "This photo really makes me look younger."
Jiang Jianhua came over to take a look and suddenly laughed out loud: "Is the amulet in your sewing basket embroidered for Ah Cheng? I see the stitching is even more detailed than the tiger-head shoes you embroidered for Nian Nian last time."
Yun Tangyin stuffed a piece of candy into her hand and said, "You're the only one with sharp eyes. He always says that the training in the army is hard. I feel at ease only when he brings a peace amulet with him."
She suddenly remembered something. "Oh, I grabbed a piece of red silk the other day. Let's make a border for my second brother's bamboo screen set titled 'The Close Relationship Between the Military and the People.' It's sure to be even more eye-catching at the exhibition."
Fu Yuanshan scratched his head: "Why is it so necessary to be so particular?"
Before he could finish his words, Jiang Jianhua glared at him: "What do you know? This is called icing on the cake."
The yard was filled with laughter.
Yun Tangyin looked around, feeling indescribable in her heart.
If life goes on like this, it seems there is nothing wrong.
