Chapter 142 Very Sweet
In the afternoon, Fu Yucheng took out a hot water bag from the bamboo basket and gave it to Yun Tangyin, "I just heated it up on the stove. Keep it in your pocket."
"It's not that cold yet." Yun Tangyin pushed it back with a smile, "You use it yourself, your hands are always cold."
Fu Yucheng stuffed it directly into her arms: "Be obedient, you are two people now, you can't get cold."
He suddenly leaned closer and said, "Yesterday I went to the supply and marketing cooperative and saw someone selling brown sugar ginger tea. I bought two packets for you. Make a cup each morning and evening."
Yun Tangyin felt warm in her heart and stuffed a freshly embroidered handkerchief into his hand: "It's for wiping your sweat and absorbing it."
Fu Yucheng took it and carefully put it in his pocket: "It's much softer than the coarse cloth handkerchief issued by the army."
He suddenly remembered something and said, "Tomorrow I'll go to the mountain to collect some wild honey and make you some honey water. It's sweeter than brown sugar."
"No need to go through so much trouble." Yun Tangyin grabbed his hand, "Just stay with me."
In the evening, Fu Yucheng was busy in the kitchen, and Yun Tangyin was leaning against the door frame to watch.
He was putting wolfberries and red dates into the casserole and cooking something.
"What is this?" Yun Tangyin leaned over to smell it. "It smells so good."
"Black chicken soup." Fu Yucheng added a piece of ginger slice to it. "The old Chinese doctor said this soup is good for your health. I specially asked Aunt Zhou to buy black chicken for you."
He scooped a spoonful of soup and tasted it. "Try it. How salty is it?"
Yun Tangyin took a sip and nodded: "Just right, it's better than the chicken soup in the cafeteria."
Fu Yucheng smiled: "That's right, I added some mountain spring water, it's sweeter than tap water."
He suddenly stuffed a peeled egg into her hand and said, "Fill your stomach first, the soup still needs to stew for a while."
At night, Yun Tangyin was lying on the kang, and Fu Yucheng was rubbing her legs.
His grip was neither too strong nor too weak, and it made her feel very comfortable.
"Who did you learn this skill from?" Yun Tangyin asked with a smile, "It's better than the massage masters in town."
"I learned it in the army." Fu Yucheng pinched her ankle. "One time a comrade-in-arms injured his leg, and the medic taught me. I memorized a few moves."
He suddenly softened his grip, "Are you tired? I'll be gentler."
"I'm not tired." Yun Tangyin snuggled into his arms, "Tell me about the army."
Fu Yucheng told her interesting stories about the army, how he entertained his comrades, and how the veterans in the kitchen squad taught him how to stew meat.
Yun Tangyin listened with great interest and yawned unconsciously.
"Are you sleepy?" Fu Yucheng covered her with the quilt. "Go to sleep. I'll be here with you."
Yun Tangyin nodded and soon fell asleep.
In her dream, she and Fu Yucheng sat under the osmanthus tree in the yard, watching the children laughing in the bamboo carts, and the whole yard was filled with the fragrance of osmanthus.
The next morning, Yun Tangyin just woke up and saw Fu Yucheng coming in holding a small bamboo gadget: "I wove it for half the night and it's for you to use as a decoration."
It's a little duck with a beak made of red rope, which makes a quacking sound when shaken.
"It's really delicious." Yun Tangyin stuffed a piece of osmanthus cake into his hand, "It's freshly steamed, try it."
Fu Yucheng took a bite and nodded: "It's sweeter than Li Ji's."
He suddenly stuffed a small cloth bag into her pocket, "This is for you."
Yun Tangyin opened it and saw some dried roses. "What are these?"
"I made it for you to drink." Fu Yucheng smiled. "The pharmacy said that roses soothe the liver and regulate qi, which is good for you."
He pressed a small bamboo teacup into her hand and said, "Use this cup to brew tea. It looks better than a porcelain cup."
Yun Tangyin held the teacup, feeling sweet in her heart.
She suddenly remembered something and stuffed a pair of freshly embroidered insoles into Fu Yucheng's hands: "I made them for you."
Fu Yucheng took it and saw two mandarin ducks embroidered on it. He smiled from ear to ear: "It looks really good. I will use it tomorrow."
The next morning, Yun Tangyin sat under the porch basking in the sun, while Fu Yucheng squatted in the yard casually weaving a small bamboo basket.
The bamboo strips flew in his hands, and soon he had woven a small and exquisite basket.
"Look at this basket?" Fu Yucheng asked, holding it up. "It's for your snacks."
Yun Tangyin took it and saw a small peach blossom woven into the basket. She smiled and said, "It's really beautiful. Even more exquisite than the ones sold at the supply and marketing cooperative."
She put some preserved plums and red dates in the basket. "That's perfect. I can take them with me when I go out."
Fu Yucheng smiled and said, "In a few days, I will weave you a bigger one that can fit your embroidery frame."
At lunch, Fu Yucheng put a piece of pork ribs into Yun Tangyin's bowl and said, "Eat more. These ribs are stewed well and are easy to digest."
He suddenly added a spoonful of soup to her bowl. "I added some yam to the soup. The old Chinese doctor said that yam strengthens the spleen and is good for you."
Yun Tangyin took a sip of the soup and nodded, "It's really delicious, even more delicious than yesterday's black chicken soup."
Fu Yucheng smiled: "That's right, I added some corn on purpose to make it more flavorful."
He put a piece of greens into his bowl and said, "You eat more meat, and I'll just eat the greens."
"No, you have to eat more too." Yun Tangyin put a piece of pork ribs into his bowl, "You have to take care of yourself so that you can accompany me."
Fu Yucheng felt warm in his heart, nodded, and started eating with big mouthfuls.
He suddenly stuffed a small bamboo box into her hand. "This is for you. It contains some almonds. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners say almonds nourish the brain and are good for you and the baby."
Yun Tangyin opened the box and saw that the almonds inside were all plump. She smiled and said, "You are so thoughtful."
Fu Yucheng smiled: "That's right, you are my wife, if I don't love you, who else should I love?"
In the evening, Yun Tangyin was sitting in the yard embroidering a handkerchief, while Fu Yucheng was squatting beside her, varnishing a small bamboo table.
The varnish has a mild smell, with a hint of turpentine.
"This table is even shinier after being varnished," Yun Tangyin said with a smile, "It looks better than a wooden table."
"That's right. I picked this bamboo specially. It has a beautiful texture." Fu Yucheng blew on the table. "Once it's dry, you can embroider on it. It's more convenient than on the kang."
He suddenly stuffed an apple into her hand and said, "I just bought it. It's very sweet. Have it."
Yun Tangyin took a bite and nodded: "It's really sweet, sweeter than the crabapple in the yard."
Fu Yucheng smiled: "That's right."
He stuffed a piece of apple peel into his mouth, "You eat the flesh, I'll eat the skin."
"No, you have to eat the flesh too." Yun Tangyin stuffed a piece of apple into his mouth, "You also need to supplement your nutrition."
Fu Yucheng felt warm in his heart and started eating with big mouthfuls.
At night, Yun Tangyin was lying on the kang, and Fu Yucheng was reading the newspaper to her.
His voice was low and pleasant, and he read with great emotion.
He suddenly stuffed a hot water bottle into her hand and said, "It's just warmed up. Keep it in your pocket so you don't get cold at night."
Yun Tangyin nodded and snuggled into his arms: "How could I be cold with you here?"
Fu Yucheng smiled, lowered his head and kissed her forehead: "Go to sleep, I will take you to the town tomorrow and buy you some food you like."
Yun Tangyin nodded and soon fell asleep.
In her dream, she and Fu Yucheng were walking hand in hand on the cobblestone road in the town. The sun was warm and her heart was sweet.
