Chapter 146: Yinyin is pregnant, don't tire her out

Fu Yucheng smiled as he chewed the date cake. Brown sugar residue clung to the corner of his mouth, but Yun Tangyin wiped it away with her hand. "Look how fast you're eating."

"Who told you to feed her so deliciously?" He grabbed her wrist and brought it to his lips, gently biting her fingertips. "It's sweeter than a date cake."

Song Yushuang came in with a bamboo sieve to dry the mung beans. Seeing this, he shook his head and said, "You are so grown up and still have not behaved properly. Yinyin, give me those wild chrysanthemums quickly and I will sew them into a pillow core for you."

Yun Tangyin handed the flowers over with a blushing face. Fu Yucheng quickly stuffed a piece of date cake into Song Yu's hands: "Mom, please try it. My sister-in-law put candied dates in it. It's smoother than ordinary date cakes."

"You're just sweet-talking." Song Yushuang sprinkled chrysanthemums into the sieve. "Yesterday I went to the supply and marketing cooperative and saw someone selling foreign cloth. It was a light red one, perfect for making a small jacket for Yinyin. It's prettier than the indigo one she's wearing."

Fu Yucheng's eyes lit up: "I'll go buy some this afternoon, and grab a piece of goose yellow to make a small bellyband for the child. It looks better than the white cloth one."

Yun Tangyin tugged at the corner of his clothes: "No need to buy so much, I still have cloth."

"That won't do." Fu Yucheng scratched her nose, "My wife and child must wear new clothes."

At noon, Fu Yucheng went to the supply and marketing cooperative and came back with a bamboo bag containing several pieces of cloth.

He compared it to Yun Tangyin and said, "It suits you better than I thought. It will look great on you."

Yun Tangyin smiled as she touched the fabric.

"I earn money to spend on you." Fu Yucheng opened another bundle, which contained walnut cakes. "I bought them for you. They're better than the sesame cakes I bought last time."

He stuffed a piece into her mouth. "Is it crispy?"

"It's crispy, but a little dry." Yun Tangyin was about to drink some water when Fu Yucheng brought her a cup of honey water. "I've prepared it for you. It's better than boiled water to soothe your throat."

In the afternoon, Yun Tangyin sat on a bamboo couch, sewing shoe soles. Fu Yucheng squatted beside her, weaving a bamboo basket. Suddenly, he held up a bamboo stick and asked, "What do you think about making a small bamboo rattle for the child? Would it look better with a red string or a green string?"

"The red one," Yun Tangyin said, "is more festive than the green one. The children will definitely smile when they see it."

"As you say." He lowered his head to weave the drum frame. "Once it's done, I'll cover the drum head with sheepskin."

Yuxia came in with a bamboo tray, delivering watermelon. Freshly cut into crescent-shaped pieces, the red flesh and black seeds looked sweet. "Yinyin, eat this quickly. We picked this from the back mountain. It's sandier than the ones you buy in town."

Fu Yucheng took a piece and handed it over first, then he picked up a piece for himself, picking out the edges and corners to eat.

Yun Tangyin stuffed a piece of the center into his mouth: "Eat this, the sweetest part, it's better than the sand on the edges."

"Just eat it." He pushed her hand, "There are two of you now, so you have to eat more sweets."

Yu Xia covered her mouth and laughed: "The other day I saw Fu Yuan planing wood in the bamboo workshop. He said he wanted to make a new dressing table for you two."

Yun Tangyin's eyes lit up: "Brother, you can do carpentry? You're better than the carpenters in town."

In the evening, Fu Yucheng went to the well to wash vegetables. Yun Tangyin followed behind with a bamboo basket. Seeing that he washed the vegetables very cleanly, even scraping off the mud on the roots, she couldn't help laughing: "You wash them more carefully than I do. Are you afraid that I'll get an upset stomach?"

"Of course not." He put the vegetables into the basket. "You are very precious now, more beautiful than a peony."

He suddenly stuffed a green plum into her pocket and said, "I just ordered this from Aunt Li. It's sour and will help you get rid of the greasiness."

Yun Tangyin took a bite and squinted her eyes because of the sourness, but she saw Fu Yucheng coming over: "Let me have a taste too."

She stuffed half of it into his mouth. He grimaced at the sour taste, but smiled and said, "It's sourer than a plum, and quite strong."

At dinner, Fu Yucheng poured a bowl of crucian carp soup into Yun Tangyin's bowl: "The old Chinese doctor said that this soup can increase milk production. I stewed it for you in advance. It's better than waiting until after giving birth to replenish your milk."

Yun Tangyin was about to speak when Yu Xia interrupted her: "He's right, I didn't replenish my milk in advance, so my milk supply was very low."

She put a piece of fish belly into Fu Yucheng's bowl and said, "You should eat it too. It will replenish your body and help you take care of the baby during the confinement period."

At night, Yun Tangyin was lying on the kang. Fu Yucheng was massaging her feet when he suddenly said, "Tomorrow I'll go to the mountain to pick some hazelnuts and fry them for you. They're more fragrant than walnuts." "The mountain road is difficult to walk on, don't go." Yun Tangyin touched his arm, "You've been tired from weaving bamboo these days."

"Not tired." He bent down and kissed her ankle. "As long as you and the child are fine, I won't be tired of doing anything."

He suddenly remembered something and said, "Oh, I made a little cradle for the baby. Can you take a look at it?"

The cradle in the bamboo house was hung on the beam, covered with red velvet, and when it was rocked, it made a tiny sound.

"I added bamboo springs, which makes it more stable than ordinary cradles, so the baby will sleep soundly in it."

Fu Yucheng pushed the cradle gently, and it creaked. "Listen to this sound, it's more soothing than a wind chime."

Yun Tangyin touched the bamboo pattern on the edge of the cradle: "It's more beautiful than I imagined. How can you be so capable?"

"For you two, I can learn anything." He took out a small bamboo box from under the cradle. Inside was a pair of silver bracelets. "These are made for the children. They are stronger than bamboo ones and can be worn until they grow up."

Just as Yun Tangyin was about to take it, he held her hand back: "Wait until the baby is born before wearing it. For now, I'll keep it. It's safer than you keeping it."

Back in the house, Yun Tangyin leaned in Fu Yucheng's arms and looked at the moon. The moonlight from outside the bamboo window poured in, forming a silver carpet on the ground.

"Do you think our children will be like you?"

"It's better to be like you." Fu Yucheng put his arm around her waist. "You are clever and skillful, better than a rough man like me."

He suddenly stuffed a hot water bottle into her arms, "It's just heated up, a little hotter than during the day, and cooler at night."

Yun Tangyin snuggled into his arms and said, "With you here, I'm not afraid of the cold."

Fu Yucheng bent down and kissed the top of her head. The bamboo wind chimes swayed gently in the wind, as if accompanying the sweetness in the room.

The next morning, Yun Tangyin had just finished combing her hair when Fu Yucheng came in holding a small bamboo gadget. "Do you like this little bamboo mirror frame? I carved a circle of winding branches on it. It's lighter than your copper frame and won't weigh you down if you put it in your pocket."

Yun Tangyin took it and looked in the mirror. The mirror reflected her smiling face and said, "It looks better than the copper frame, and it doesn't scratch my hands."

She stuffed a freshly steamed sugar bun into his hand and said, "Eat it while it's hot. I added jujube paste filling, which is sweeter than red bean paste."

Fu Yucheng smiled as he bit the candy bag, the sugar juice dripping down the corners of his mouth. Yun Tangyin quickly took out a handkerchief to wipe it for him: "Eat slowly, no one is going to snatch it from you."

"I'm afraid you won't have enough." He stuffed half a piece into her mouth. "Try it, it's even more sticky than yesterday's date cake."

Song Yushuang was carrying a bamboo basket on her way to the market. She passed by the window and heard the noise. She smiled and called out, "Yinyin, give me that water-red cloth. I'll make you a small jacket with a small peach blossom embroidered on the collar. It's prettier than a plain jacket."

Yun Tangyin was about to respond when Fu Yucheng had already brought the cloth over: "Mom, let me help you. Yinyin is pregnant, don't tire her out."

He turned around and winked at Yun Tangyin, "Ask mom to embroider it for you more delicately. It's better than the craftsmanship of the embroiderers in town."

In the morning, Yun Tangyin sat beside and sewed a small bellyband. On the goose yellow cloth, she was embroidering a small bamboo wooden horse with very fine stitches.

"Look at the tail of this wooden horse," she held it up for Fu Yucheng to see, "Is it well-embroidered? Is it lively?"

Fu Yucheng came over to take a look, then pinched her cheek: "You're energetic."

He stuffed a plum into her hand and said, "Take a break before embroidering. Your eyes must be tired."
