Chapter 149: Your brain is full of these thoughts

Chapter 149: Your brain is full of these thoughts

Fu Yucheng heard the retching sound and the fish basket in his hand fell to the ground with a clang. He rushed over and supported her. "What's wrong? Are you choking on the fishy smell?"

He took off his coarse cloth jacket and put it over her nose, "Cover it up quickly, it's better than a handkerchief to block the smell."

Yun Tangyin buried her head in her bamboo-scented jacket and shook it. The churning in her stomach gradually subsided. "It's nothing. I just can't stand the smell of fishy things all of a sudden."

Fu Yucheng quickly dragged the fish basket to the corner of the yard and covered it tightly with a bamboo mat: "It's all my fault. I should have put the fish in the kitchen first."

He stuffed a plum into her mouth and said, "Put it in your mouth and press it down. It's more effective than mint candy."

Song Yushuang came out with a basin to collect water. Seeing this, he slapped his thigh and said, "Look at my memory. I forgot that pregnant women can't stand the smell of fish! Yinyin, come in quickly. I'll ask your sister-in-law to take the fish and prepare it first before bringing it back."

Yu Xia was just coming in with a red bean paste bun. Upon hearing this, she quickly replied, "Yes, yes, yes. I'll take it away. It's better than choking on Yin Yin here."

She stuffed a hot red bean paste bun into Yun Tangyin's hand and said, "Hurry up and eat something sweet to suppress the taste."

Yun Tangyin bit her bean paste bun and smiled: "It's really nothing, I just overreacted a bit."

She stuffed half of it into Fu Yucheng's hand and said, "Eat it too, to ease your guilt."

Fu Yucheng chewed his bun and sighed, "It's all my fault for being clumsy."

He suddenly stuffed a bag of tangerine peel candy into her pocket and said, "I just bought this at the supply and marketing cooperative. It's more appetizing than preserved plums. I'll always carry this in my pocket from now on."

In the morning, Yun Tangyin sat on a bamboo couch embroidering a baby pillow while Fu Yucheng squatted beside her, whittling bamboo strips. Suddenly, he held up a piece of bamboo strips and asked, "Shall I weave a bamboo screen for you? Put it by the bed to block the wind and the smell. It's more breathable than a cotton curtain and you'll feel better smelling it."

"Don't bother," Yun Tangyin said, "I just feel nauseous occasionally, it will be fine after a while."

She stuffed a piece of malt sugar into his hand and said, "Is it sweet? It's more greasy than tangerine peel candy."

Fu Yucheng bit the candy and smiled: "As long as it's given by you, it's sweet no matter how greasy it is."

He suddenly placed a cup of chrysanthemum tea next to her. "Freshly brewed, with rock sugar. It moistens the throat better than plain water. Drink more when you feel nauseous."

At lunchtime, Yu Xia came in with a bamboo tray containing steamed yam. "Yinyin, eat quickly. I added honey to it. It's lighter than stir-fried and won't upset your stomach."

She also put a few pieces into Fu Yucheng's bowl and said, "Eat some too. It will nourish your spleen and stomach. Don't always think about weaving bamboo utensils."

Fu Yucheng was about to put the yam into Yun Tangyin's bowl when she held his hand: "I can reach it, you eat it yourself."

She put a piece of pork ribs into his bowl and said, "You like this. It's more filling than yam."

Yu Xia covered her mouth and laughed, "The other day I saw my second brother's wife drying hawthorns. She said she was saving them for you. They're sourer than the ones you buy at the pharmacy, and perfect for when you feel nauseous."

Yun Tangyin's eyes lit up: "Second sister-in-law is so thoughtful, even more careful than I am."

Fu Yucheng chewed the ribs and hummed: "I bought it for you a long time ago. It's even more sour than the ones she dried. It's on the second layer of the bamboo cabinet."

In the afternoon, Yun Tangyin sat under the shade of bamboo, embroidering a small bellyband. Fu Yucheng squatted beside her, weaving a bamboo basket. Suddenly, holding up the basket, he asked, "How about weaving a lid for this basket? It can hold your favorite snacks, and it's cleaner than leaving it open."

"Okay," Yun Tangyin said, "weave a small lock. It's more convenient than tying it with a rope."

"As you say." He lowered his head to weave the basket lid. "Once I'm done, I'll carve a small lotus flower on the lid. It'll look better than a plain one."

In the evening, Fu Yucheng went to the kitchen to cook porridge. Yun Tangyin peeked through the door frame and saw him add a handful of millet to the porridge. "Old Chinese medicine practitioners say millet nourishes the stomach and is lighter than rice porridge. You should drink more."

Yun Tangyin leaned over and sniffed it: "It smells really good, even better than the millet porridge in the cafeteria."

She stuffed a piece of sesame candy into his hand and said, "I just exchanged it from Aunt Li. It's sweeter than sugar."

Fu Yucheng smiled while biting the candy.

He suddenly added a bamboo stick to the stove. "This bamboo stick will burn brightly, and the porridge will cook faster. It saves time compared to burning firewood."

At dinner, Fu Yucheng poured a bowl of millet porridge into Yun Tangyin's bowl: "Look how soft this millet is. It's stickier than last time."

There was only white porridge in his own bowl. Yun Tangyin poured half a spoonful of millet porridge into his bowl: "Don't just give it to me, you need to eat it too."

Fu Yucheng hurriedly started eating. Song Yushuang and Yu Xia smiled at each other. In the light of the bamboo lamp, the food on the table was steaming, just like the day, warming people's hearts.

At night, Yun Tangyin was lying on the kang. Fu Yucheng was massaging her stomach when he suddenly said, "Tomorrow I'll go to the mountain to pick some wild hawthorns for you. They're fresher than the ones you buy, and you won't feel sick if you put them in your mouth."

"The mountain road is slippery, don't go," Yun Tangyin touched his hand, "Don't we have dried hawthorns at home? It's enough for me to eat."

"That won't do," Fu Yucheng lowered his head and kissed her forehead, "How can a dried one be as sour as a fresh one? I'll pick the reddest one for you, it'll be so sour that you'll grimace."

Yun Tangyin tugged at his collar and laughed, "You're just hoping I'll be jealous."

"How can that be possible?" Fu Yucheng hugged her in his arms, "I'm just worried that you'll feel sick."

Fu Yucheng fed her candied hawthorns, which were crystal clear. "They are cleaner than those bought in town. If you want to eat them, just take a bite. They are sourer than plums."

Just as Yun Tangyin was about to take a bite, he held her hand back: "Eat slowly, don't hurt your teeth."

He suddenly moved closer to her mouth, "Is it sour? If it's sour, give it to me."

Yun Tangyin stuffed a hawthorn into his mouth and said, "Try it yourself, it's more accurate than what I say."

Fu Yucheng frowned because of the sour taste, but smiled and said, "It's just right to relieve the greasiness."

The bamboo wind chimes outside the window rang twice, as if responding to the sweetness in the house.

Yun Tangyin smiled, holding a hawthorn in her mouth: "It's just the right amount of sour, stronger than tangerine peel candy."

She suddenly poured some melon seeds into Fu Yucheng's palm and said, "Peel some seeds for me. It's easier than peeling them yourself."

Fu Yucheng pinched the melon seed shell and crackled it, the kernels piled up in her palm like a small mountain: "Eat slowly, they are more chewy than the fragrant melon seeds I bought last time."

He suddenly stuffed a candied fruit into her mouth and said, "The sweetness will balance it out. It's better than just eating the sourness."

Song Yushuang came in with a bamboo lantern to check on the room. Seeing the two of them huddled in bed, sharing hawthorns, he smiled and raised the lantern higher: "Go to sleep quickly. If you eat any more, you'll have heartburn at night."

She placed a small bamboo chamber pot next to Yun Tangyin's pillow. "Don't run to the kitchen when you get up at night. It's lighter than the enamel one, so it won't be hard for you to carry it."

Yun Tangyin blushed as she stuffed the chamber pot under the bed. Fu Yucheng quickly took it and set it aside: "Mom, leave it here. I'll take care of her at night."

He suddenly stuffed a candied haws into Song Yu's hands and said, "Sweet ones are better than sour ones for your taste."

Song Yushuang knocked on his head: "You are the only one who talks sweetly."

As he turned around, he reminded her, "If Yinyin feels nauseous, warm the millet porridge on the stove. It's better for her stomach than cold steamed buns."

When they were the only two left in the room, Fu Yucheng snuggled into Yun Tangyin's arms and said, "Tomorrow I'll make a bamboo melon seed tray with a small drawer. It's cleaner than your rough porcelain bowl. You can just throw the shells into the drawer."

Yun Tangyin stroked his stubble and laughed, "That's all you can think about."

He held her fingertips in his mouth and nibbled them gently, making her shrink her hand back in itch. "Stop it, or we'll see you again at dawn."

Fu Yucheng held her hand tightly and said, "Let's chat for a while. It's more reassuring than seeing her in a dream."

He suddenly blew into her ear and said, "Do you think the child will also like sour food after it is born?"
