Chapter 51: Getting Started with Accounting
Yun Tangyin had just registered the food coupons that Fu Yuanshan had dropped over when she saw Jiang Jianhua standing at the gate holding the key, his face still red, as if he had just cried.
"Sister-in-law, this is the key to the cash box." Jiang Jianhua pressed the key into her hand, his fingertips still trembling. "I've corrected the account book. Check to see if there's anything I missed."
Yun Tangyin took the key and weighed it, then flipped open the account book and glanced at it: "Second sister-in-law is really quick to change."
She suddenly stopped and pointed with her fingertips. "What's the story behind this three pounds of eggs given to a neighbor? Why didn't you write the neighbor's last name? Which neighbor? If Mom asks, I won't be able to answer."
Jiang Jianhua's face froze instantly: "It's... it's Aunt Wang next door. She came to borrow soy sauce before, and I gave it to her."
"Oh? Aunt Wang?" Yun Tangyin closed the account book and smiled meaningfully: "If Second Sister-in-law can't remember, I'll go ask this Aunt Wang this afternoon."
Jiang Jianhua hurriedly waved his hands: "No, no, no! I can just make up the money!"
She gave the money, turned around and walked away clutching the corner of her clothes, as if a wolf was chasing her.
Yun Tangyin looked at her back and smiled. Just as she hung the key on the hook on the wall, she saw her sister-in-law Yuxia standing at the door with a bamboo basket, and steam was still coming out of the basket.
It didn't look like he was just passing by, but rather came here specifically to find Yun Tangyin.
"Yinyin, are you busy?" Yuxia smiled, her eyes curved into crescents, and she put the basket on the table: "I just steamed some brown sugar buns. I'm bringing them to you to fill your stomachs and try something new."
Looking at Yu Xia's reaction, she wasn't there when Jiang Jianhua started making a scene...
Yun Tangyin guessed her purpose, took the basket, smelled the fragrance of the brown sugar buns, and smiled: "Sister-in-law is thoughtful."
"What's the big deal?" Yu Xia sat down next to her, glanced at the key on the wall, then quickly looked away: "Just now I saw my second brother's wife leave with red eyes. Did she bother you again?"
"Nothing, I'm just revising the account book." Yun Tangyin picked up a steamed bun and broke off half a piece: "Sister-in-law, if you have nothing to do, why don't you help me look at this account book? You've been here longer than me, so you must understand it better than me."
Yu Xia's eyes lit up, and she quickly came over: "I don't know anything about account books, I'm just helping you count."
She pointed at the page with the material notes: "Although the price of the Dacron is the same as the listed price at the supply and marketing cooperative, the supply and marketing cooperative has a new rule this year: officers' families can get two cents off per foot of cloth."
Yun Tangyin raised an eyebrow: "Sister-in-law even knows this?"
"I made clothes for Yuanzheng a while ago and went to the supply and marketing cooperative several times."
At this point, Yu Xia sighed, "Jiang Jianhua always likes to buy things from people he knows, saying it's a bargain, but in fact, he gets ripped off. Unlike you, Yinyin, you know how to live."
She paused, then suddenly lowered her voice: "Actually, I've wanted to persuade her for a long time, but she always said I was an outsider. Now you just take care of the accounts. You're Ah Cheng's daughter-in-law, and we're one family."
Yun Tangyin took a bite of the steamed bun and slowly raised the corner of her mouth: "Sister-in-law, if you have anything to say, just say it directly."
Yu Xia rubbed her hands, her face flushed. "Well... I'm looking for a job change. I heard the army might be transferring people soon. Do you think you could ask Ah Cheng to help ask around?"
"Sister-in-law, aren't you doing well in the workshop?" Yun Tangyin asked knowingly.
"It's good, but I always work night shifts, and I'm worried I can't take good care of my family." Yu Xia's eyes were red, and she looked embarrassed:
"If it's a technical position, I can work the day shift and get a couple more bucks. I know I need connections, and if it's difficult..."
"That's not difficult." Yun Tangyin interrupted her with a smile in the corners of her eyes and eyebrows.
Yu Xia suddenly looked up, her eyes sparkling. "Really? That's great! I'll prepare it tonight and see if I need anything. Just let me know..."
"But there's something I need to tell my eldest sister-in-law." Yun Tangyin wiped her hands: "Second sister-in-law said her brother Jiang Zhicheng is coming to the Northeast. As you know, she was the one who managed the household before. If this man really comes, should I take care of him or not?"
Yu Xia's smile faded a little: "Jiang Zhicheng? I've heard that young man is quite arrogant."
"I'm not afraid of his arrogance, but I'm afraid he'll get involved in the Fu family's affairs." Yun Tangyin looked at her and said, "Sister-in-law, give me some advice. Should I prepare more dishes so that people don't say the Fu family is stingy, or should I just ignore it?"
Yu Xia immediately understood: "You mean they want you to pay?"
She curled her lips, looking like she was sharing a common hatred for the enemy: "Jiang Jianhua is just that kind of person. Last time, she wanted to borrow the bacon my family sent her as a gift."
"So I'll have to trouble you to keep an eye on it, sister-in-law." Yun Tangyin handed her the remaining half of the steamed bun: "I plan to ask you to help keep track of the groceries for the family in the future. If you have time..."
"When I'm free!" Yu Xia quickly replied, "I'm free at home, so it's only natural for me to run errands for you!"
She knew in her heart that Yun Tangyin was trying to make her one of their own, and that she would definitely receive benefits from the family in the future.
As he was speaking, Fu Yucheng pushed the door open and came in. Seeing Yu Xia, he nodded slightly: "Is sister-in-law here?"
"I just brought steamed buns to my sister-in-law." Yu Xia stood up and was about to leave. "You guys are busy. I'll go back and cook."
He walked to the door and turned back: "If Yinyin needs anything, just call me anytime!"
Yun Tangyin looked at her brisk back and smiled at Fu Yucheng: "Sister-in-law is a sensible person."
Fu Yucheng came over and put his arm around her waist, a smile on his face: "But you, you're so smart to recruit helpers right after you start managing the accounts?"
"If Mom says anything about me, I'll just say my sister-in-law knows how to steam buns." Yun Tangyin raised her head and pecked him on the chin: "Besides, Yuxia will help me keep an eye on Jiang Jianhua, so we can worry less. Didn't you see the look in her eyes when she mentioned Jiang Zhicheng just now? She has long disliked those siblings."
Fu Yucheng chuckled: "You are still amazing."
Then he changed the subject: "If you are wronged, remember to tell me, my second sister-in-law..."
Yun Tangyin waved her hand: "She is busy making clothes to please her mother now."
Yun Tangyin leaned in his arms, her fingertips stroking the back of his hand: "When she and Fu Yuanshan have enough money to invite Jiang Zhicheng, we will go to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy two more pounds of meat and let them know who is the real boss."
As he was speaking, Jiang Jianhua's voice came from outside the courtyard gate: "Is your sister-in-law home? I have corrected the account book! There will be no problem this time!"
Yun Tangyin winked at Fu Yucheng: "Speak of the devil, and he will appear."
She raised her voice and answered, "I'm here, come in."
When Jiang Jianhua pushed the door open and came in, he was still holding the account book in his hand. Seeing Yu Xia had just left, his eyes flashed: "Did my sister-in-law just come here?"
"I sent a basket of brown sugar buns." Yun Tangyin took the account book and opened it to see the two words "Aunt Wang" were crookedly filled in. She smiled and said, "Second sister-in-law's handwriting is really beautiful."
Jiang Jianhua's face turned red instantly, and he stood there pinching the corner of his clothes, as if he had something to say.
Yun Tangyin asked knowingly, "Second sister-in-law, is there anything else?"
