Chapter 83: Shopping for My Wife

Chapter 83: Shopping for My Wife

As the car entered the military compound, Yu Xia was standing on tiptoe at the door, peering out. Seeing them, she hurried over to greet them, "You're finally back! Jiang Jianhua made some chicken soup, and he said it was for you guys."

As soon as Yun Tangyin jumped out of the car, Yu Xia pulled her aside and asked her all sorts of questions: "Is the Songhua River fun? Did you catch any big fish? Did Ah Cheng bully you?"

Fu Yucheng followed behind with a fish basket in his hand. He smiled when he heard this and said, "Don't worry, sister-in-law. I love her so much that I wouldn't dare bully her."

"That's more like it." Yu Xia smiled and patted him. Her sharp eyes caught sight of the wildflowers in Yun Tangyin's hair. "Oh, these flowers are so beautiful. Did Ah Cheng pick them?"

Yun Tangyin blushed slightly, and Fu Yucheng answered first: "Yes, I picked it by the river. It suits her perfectly."

When they entered the courtyard, Jiang Jianhua was putting chicken soup on the table. Seeing them, he quickly wiped his hands and said, "Yinyin, sit down and rest. I've been stewing it for three hours."

As soon as Yun Tangyin sat down, she saw Fu Yucheng put the largest carp into the basin. Jiang Jianhua exclaimed, "Oh my God, such a big fish! It's enough for us to eat for several days."

"Give some to my sister-in-law and mom." Yun Tangyin said with a smile, "Fu Yucheng said that this fish makes the most delicious soup."

Fu Yucheng suddenly pulled out a small cloth bag from the fish basket and opened it to reveal several round river stones. He stuffed them into Yun Tangyin's hands and said, "I picked up the ones you said were good-looking."

The river stones have been washed smooth and translucent by the river water, and they glow warmly under the light.

Yun Tangyin held it in her hand and played with it. Yu Xia came over to look at it and said, "This stone is really beautiful. Are you planning to put it in the cement at the door?"

Everyone laughed, and Yun Tangyin said angrily, "Sister-in-law always wastes things. I want to string them together into a bracelet."

"I'll help you drill the hole," Fu Yucheng replied immediately. "I'll borrow the tools from the blacksmith at the regiment headquarters tomorrow. I guarantee it will be beautiful."

The next morning, Fu Yucheng took Jiang Shi to the blacksmith shop.

As they were talking, Fu Yucheng came back with a Jiangshi bracelet in his hand. The red string strung with gray-white stones had an indescribable elegance.

He put it on Yun Tangyin's wrist, and it was just the right size. "Does it look good?"

"It looks good." Yun Tangyin shook her wrist, and the river stones collided with each other, making a crisp sound.

In the afternoon, Fu Yucheng really took Yun Tangyin to the shooting range.

He demonstrated it several times first, and the sound of the gunshot made Yun Tangyin shrink her neck.

He came over, held her hand, and taught her to aim: "Don't be afraid, just follow me."

Yun Tangyin closed her eyes and pulled the trigger. The bullet went far away. She stamped her feet in frustration and said, "It went astray."

"It's good for the first time." Fu Yucheng ruffled her hair. "Try it again, look at the crosshairs, and think of using Xu Runli as a target."

Yun Tangyin laughed and raised the gun again. This time the bullet actually grazed the bull's eye.

Fu Yucheng's eyes lit up: "Amazing! If you practice more, you can definitely win the championship."

While they were practicing, Officer Zhang passed by with a camera in hand: "Captain Fu, can you take a picture of us? The regiment is going to make a publicity column for military families."

Fu Yucheng pulled Yun Tangyin to his side, and they stood side by side at the shooting range. He still held the gun in his hand, and the Jiangshi bracelet on her wrist was shining.

The camera "clicked", freezing this moment into eternity.

At dinner that night, Song Yushuang looked at the photo and nodded: "She looks so energetic, even better than in her wedding photos."

"If you like it, I'll go get a few more pictures." Fu Yucheng picked up a piece of chicken for Yun Tangyin, "Yinyin, do you want to take more pictures?"

Yun Tangyin suddenly remembered something: "Oh, the osmanthus cake is almost finished."

"I know." Fu Yucheng said with a smile, "I have already written a letter and will bring it to you when the time comes."

Yun Tangyin felt warm in her heart. This seemingly rough man always thought of every detail carefully.

At night, the two of them lay on the kang, and Fu Yucheng played with her hair: "Take you to the supply and marketing cooperative tomorrow? I heard that a new batch of floral fabrics has arrived, and I want to make you a new cheongsam."

"Why make a cheongsam? It's inconvenient to wear out." Yun Tangyin yawned.

"Why is it inconvenient?" He bent down and kissed her forehead. "My wife looks good in anything she wears. She must wear it out for the whole group to see. My wife, Fu Yucheng, is the most beautiful in the world."

Yun Tangyin was amused by him and shrank into his arms: "You are the only one who talks sweetly."

"I'm telling the truth." He tightened his arms. "When I was in the army, I always heard my comrades talk about how wonderful it was to have a wife, children, and a warm bed. I didn't understand it then, but now I know that this is the most comfortable life in the world."

The moonlight from outside shone through the window lattice and fell on the two people's clasped hands. One wore a military watch and the other wore a Jiangshi bracelet, but they were extremely harmonious.

When Yun Tangyin was about to fall asleep, she heard Fu Yucheng whisper in her ear: "Yinyin, thank you for giving me a home."

She rubbed against his arms, with a smile on her lips, and fell into a sweet dream.

In my dream, there were white birds in the Songhua River, the sound of gunfire at the shooting range, the sweet fragrance of osmanthus cake, and his warm embrace.

Days like this are so nice.

With him by my side, every day feels like being immersed in honey, so sweet that I don’t want to wake up.

The next morning, Fu Yucheng dragged Yun Tangyin to the supply and marketing cooperative.

As soon as I walked in, the salesperson Xiao Li came up to me with a smile and asked, "Do you want to make new clothes?"

Fu Yucheng pushed Yun Tangyin towards the floral fabric counter: "Pick out good materials for her."

Yun Tangyin's fingertips brushed across a piece of lake blue fine cotton cloth, and her eyes lit up: "This cloth is so soft."

"This is it." Fu Yucheng immediately decided, "Tear off two more pieces for the lining, and ask the tailor to put more cotton in it, so it will be warm in winter."

"Why would you need such fine material to make a cotton-padded jacket?" Yun Tangyin tugged at his sleeve. "What a waste."

"How can it be considered a waste to make clothes for my wife?" He turned to Xiao Li and said, "Take the apricot-colored one and make it into a cheongsam."

While Xiao Li was measuring the cloth, Yun Tangyin saw a bottle of cold cream on the counter, the kind that Fu Yucheng said he would buy for her last time.

She just took a few more glances when Fu Yucheng took out the money and said, "Pack this too."

"No, no." Yun Tangyin waved her hand quickly, "I haven't finished my bottle yet."

He stuffed the vanishing cream into her hand and said, "Here, my wife's face needs to be taken good care of."

As he was talking, Yuxia came in with a basket on her shoulder. "Oh, you bought so much cloth? Are you planning to give me a nephew?"

Yun Tangyin's face flushed red, and Fu Yucheng smiled and said, "Don't worry, sister-in-law, it will happen sooner or later."

On the way back, Fu Yucheng was carrying a cloth bag and Yun Tangyin was holding a bottle of vanishing cream, and the two of them walked slowly.

Passing by the vegetable market, he suddenly stopped and said, "Wait a moment."

He turned around and bought a string of candied haws and handed it to Yun Tangyin: "Try it, it's sweet and sour."

Yun Tangyin took a bite, and the sour taste of the hawthorn mixed with the sweetness of the rock sugar exploded on the tip of her tongue. She squinted her eyes and said, "It's delicious."

"If it tastes good, eat more." He stuffed the rest into her hands. "I'll make you some hawthorn water tonight to help you feel less greasy."
