Chapter 120 Acquaintances… (3/3)

He dislikes these "variables" that can cause trouble.

Especially that tall, thin man with glasses; the look in his eyes wasn't just ruthless, it was venomous.

It's the kind of poison that makes people in the apocalypse willing to sell anything to survive.

He looked away, picked up Ruan Tang, and turned to walk into the house.

"Brother, let me watch a little longer." Ruan Tang was unhappy and clung to his shoulder with her little hands, still wanting to watch the excitement.

Yan Yu ignored her, walked straight into the house, and put her on the kang (a heated brick bed).

He took out a paper package from the cupboard, unwrapped it, and found several golden peach shortbreads inside.

He broke off a small piece and brought it to Ruan Tang's lips.

"Have some snacks."

The sweet and crispy flavor melted in her mouth, instantly capturing Ruan Tang's full attention.

She ate it in one bite with a "whoosh," her eyes squinting happily.

Looking at her contented expression, Yan Yu's slight irritation vanished.

He bent down and fed her another bite, his fingertips intentionally or unintentionally brushing against the corner of her soft lips.

His deep voice sounded in her ear, carrying a hint of comfort.

"They were lucky to be assigned to our brigade."

Yan Yu had guessed before that the empty house next to the cowshed was prepared for these people, and seeing the young couple, he knew that someone was operating it.

Ruan Tang was so captivated by the peach shortbread that her little mouth was moving. When she heard Yan Yu's words, she mumbled an "um".

She swallowed the snack in her mouth, turned her little head to look at him, her big eyes full of curiosity.

"Good luck?"

Yan Yu broke off another piece and fed it to her mouth. After watching her eat it obediently, he explained in a low voice, "That young couple, the man is called Xu Wenbo. His family has some connections. He was able to come here because someone protected him."

Ruan Tang blinked, not quite understanding the intricacies of the situation.

All she knew was that having connections meant less trouble.

Yan Yu didn't go into too much detail; he simply wiped away a little bit of crumb from the corner of her lips with his fingertip, a natural and intimate gesture.

His brow furrowed almost imperceptibly.

"However, their relocation means that soon more people will be sent to the countryside."

Upon hearing this, Yan Yu's aura turned cold.

Ruan Tang sensed it keenly, so she stopped watching the spectacle and instead reached out her two small hands to cup Yan Yu's cold and stern face.

"Going to the countryside? Didn't five new educated youths just come down?"

Her soft, sweet voice, like a feather, gently swept away the restlessness in Yan Yu's heart.

He took her small hand, kissed it, and only then did the coldness in his eyes dissipate somewhat.

"I know that couple who are embracing."

Yan Yu paused, his voice turning somber.

"They are my friend's aunt and uncle." (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
