The mountains here are steep and overgrown with weeds, so few people come here usually. The journey is very quiet, with only the crunching sound of footsteps on dead branches and leaves.
Yan Yu originally wanted to take her to the pond to try her luck and see if they could catch some wild game.
They didn't see anything, but they did run into three silly deer.
Two large ones and one small one, with reddish-brown fur, stood out conspicuously in the green forest.
When they saw people, they were so frightened that they darted forward a few steps, then stopped, tilted their furry heads, and curiously looked back with their big, dark eyes.
Ruan Tang burst out laughing.
She ran a few steps forward, and the three deer moved away a little.
When she stopped, they stopped too, and foolishly tried to move back.
Ruan Tang, feeling playful, decided not to eat anymore. With a thought, she waved her hand and took the family of three into her space.
Yan Yu looked at her with doting eyes, his voice tinged with laughter: "Aren't you craving roe deer meat?"
“Yes,” Ruan Tang nodded confidently, then put her hands behind her back and, like an old cadre, solemnly lectured him, “But my dad said we need sustainable development!”
"Let's raise them first, and once the babies are born, we can eat the older ones. That way, we can have a continuous supply and always have something to eat!"
Yan Yu raised an eyebrow, amused by the girl's twisted logic, and chuckled softly.
That's quite visionary.
The two walked deeper into the woods, and Yan Yu, with his sharp eyes, spotted a cluster of wild red berries under a bush.
The fruit was bright red and looked exceptionally appealing.
He took out an entrenching tool and carefully dug up several plants with intact root systems, which Ruan Tang then stored in her spatial storage and planted.
Then, he picked the remaining ripe fruit one by one, put them into a clean enamel basin, and stored them in his own space.
"What is this?" Ruan Tang leaned closer, looking at the fruits with curiosity. Her nose twitched as she smelled a sweet fragrance.
"strawberry."
Yan Yu looked at the little girl's bright almond eyes and her slightly pursed lips that revealed longing, and his Adam's apple bobbed.
With a thought, he took one out of his own space.
This one is much bigger than the one I just picked, about the size of a thumb. It's plump, more vibrant in color, and still has a cool, moist feel to it.
"It's clean now, have a taste."
He didn't hand it to her; instead, he brought it directly to her lips.
Ruan Tang didn't stand on ceremony and opened her mouth to take it in.
With a gentle bite, the thin peel breaks open instantly.
A rich, sweet, and slightly sour flavor exploded in my mouth, a pleasant sensation that traveled from the tip of my tongue all the way to my throat.
tasty!
Ruan Tang's eyes lit up instantly, and she squinted happily.
Just as she was about to ask for another one, Yan Yu beside her suddenly tensed up and stood up straight.
The lazy, doting aura emanating from him vanished instantly.
The smile vanished completely from his face, his eyes sharp as knives, fixed intently on the depths of the forest.
"What's wrong, brother?" Ruan Tang's heart tightened, and she became nervous as well.
Yan Yu pulled her behind him and gestured for her to be quiet.
Then he walked a few steps to a pine tree and squatted down.
Curious, Ruan Tang followed and saw a clear footprint imprinted in the damp soil.
That was definitely not left by the two of them.
Yan Yu pointed at the footprint, his voice turning cold.
"They are military boots."
"The footprints were fresh; the person had just left." (This chapter has been completed. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
