When they finally arrived at the entrance of Jixiang Brigade Village, Ruan Tang was craning her neck to look in their direction, accompanied by a group of aunties and wives who were watching the commotion.
The autumn harvest may be busy, but watching the lively gathering of the new educated youth is a must-see event every year.
She spotted the spectacular scene at a glance.
That girl in the pink dress was truly beautiful.
But on her feet were a pair of black cloth shoes that were obviously a size too small, with her heels touching the upper of the shoes, making her walk with a limp and unsteady gait, just like a fallen young lady.
A few steps behind them stood another girl in a floral shirt, who looked almost identical to the former.
The brand-new leather shoes on her feet tormented her like instruments of torture.
Every step felt like walking on needles; his expressionless face was deathly pale.
Ruan Tang blinked, her eyes lighting up.
Wow, this new educated youth already has such a story to tell as soon as he arrived in the village!
She was engrossed in reading when a familiar, cool pine scent suddenly enveloped her from behind.
A large hand, with an irresistible force, wrapped around her waist and pulled her backward.
Ruan Tang's back slammed solidly into a hot, firm chest.
"What are you looking at?"
Yan Yu's deep voice rang in her ears, and his warm breath brushed against her earlobe, sending a shiver down her spine.
“Look at the new educated youth,” Ruan Tang answered subconsciously, tilting her little face up as if she wanted to share the latest gossip with him.
But when she looked up, she found that Yan Yu hadn't even glanced at that group of people.
His gaze remained fixed on her face the entire time.
As he helped her pull weeds in the field, he asked in a low voice, "Hmm, have you seen enough? Shall we go home?"
"I'm not tired. You did all the work, and I just stood there watching the fun," Ruan Tang replied with a grin, her little hand unconsciously grabbing the hem of his shirt at his waist.
Almost simultaneously, Tao Yuming, who was deep in thought, suddenly looked up as if he had been pricked by a needle!
His gaze swept past the crowd and landed precisely on Yan Yu's back as he worked.
In that instant, it was as if all his strength had been drained from him, and his pupils suddenly contracted!
The color drained from his face in an instant!
He opened and closed his lips silently, as if trying to shout something, but his throat felt like it was blocked by cotton, and he couldn't utter a single word.
It's him!
It really is him!
Ruan Tang was stunned.
She glanced at the man beside her, who didn't even look up, was earnestly helping her with her work, and had her completely under his thumb.
Then he looked at the male educated youth in the distance who was so excited that he almost fainted on the spot, as if he had seen a living ancestor.
