Chapter 176 The Jade Pendant Was Found (2/2)

A dusty, unremarkable storage bag was pushed out.

Immediately afterwards, the little white fluffy head peeked out, carrying a palm-sized sandalwood box in its mouth. Like presenting a treasure, it jumped onto the desk and slammed the box down in front of Ruan Tang.

It puffed out its little chest, its fluffy tail swaying proudly behind it, and its bright, dark purple eyes stared at Ruan Tang: Praise me! Praise me!

Ruan Tang was both annoyed and amused. She reached out and tapped its little head before her gaze fell on the wooden box.

This box is exactly the same as the one in the original owner's memory.

Yan Yu held her in his arms, his large hand covering the back of her hand that was holding the box, using his body heat to provide silent support.

Ruan Tang took a deep breath, extended her slightly trembling fingers, and gently pried open the antique copper clasp of the wooden box.

“Clatter.”

The box is open.

A refreshing coolness spread out.

On the bright red velvet cloth, a jade pendant lay quietly.

It wasn't any color; it was pure, clean, and transparent, allowing you to clearly see every single texture of the velvet underneath. Inside the jade pendant, wisps of mist-like energy flowed slowly, as if they were alive.

Its shape is exactly like that auspicious cloud.

Ruan Tang's heart stopped beating.

She carefully took out the auspicious cloud jade pendant. It was icy cold to the touch, and the chill seeped straight into her bones from her fingertips.

With a thought, the key and jade pendant appeared in his other palm.

She held her breath and, under Yan Yu's calm gaze, slowly aligned the key jade pendant with the groove in the center of the auspicious cloud jade pendant.

Perfectly fitted.

The moment the edges of the two pieces of jade fit together perfectly, they vibrated slightly and emitted a clear, melodious hum.

They are one!

But Ruan Tang's brows furrowed.

wrong.

Although it was embedded, the flat, round pressing point at the top of the key-shaped jade pendant was still a small gap from the inner wall of the auspicious cloud jade pendant.

It's like a key being inserted into a lock, but not fully inserted.

Ruan Tang didn't believe it and pressed down hard on the flat, round object with her thumb.

It remained completely still.

She tried several more times, but the jade pendant did not react at all.

What happened?

Yan Yu watched as she furrowed her brows, struggling with the jade pendant, her little mouth unconsciously pouting, which made his heart melt with her cuteness.

He didn't speak, but simply reached out his other hand and enveloped Ruan Tang's small, trembling hand that was holding the jade pendant. His palm was dry and burning hot, and with an undeniable force, he compelled her to release her grip on the jade pendant.

The two jade pendants, now joined together, fell into his large palm.

Ruan Tang subconsciously exclaimed "Ah!" and looked up at him, her eyes filled with confusion.

Yan Yu pulled her closer to his chest, making her more comfortable against his chest, before lowering his head and gently rubbing his chin against the top of her head. His deep voice, like the strings of a cello, vibrated in her ear.

"Don't rush."

He held her with one arm and cradled the peculiar auspicious cloud jade with the other, his slender fingers gently caressing the connection point of the "key".

"This thing might not be used like this."

Ruan Tang blinked, somewhat puzzled: "But they're clearly one entity, aren't they?"

“Yes, it’s a single unit,” Yan Yu replied confidently. “But some ancient mechanisms, for safety, would have double locks.”

He paused, as if thinking about how to explain it in a way that she would understand.

“You can think of it as a safety latch.” His finger pointed to the flat, round part of the key pendant that couldn’t be pressed down. “You’ve inserted the key, which means it’s the right key. But to turn it, you might need to pour something else into this gap, like… spiritual energy or blood.”

"Only when this gap is filled can the safety bolt fully spring open. Right now, it hasn't reached the bottom, so the lock can't be opened."

His explanation was simple and straightforward, and Ruan Tang understood it instantly. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
