Isn't he even a little bit afraid of killing someone to steal the treasure?!
That's infuriating!
Ruan Tang glared angrily at Yan Yu, saying, "Just you wait, I'm going up the mountain to cultivate in a bit, and I'll beat you down sooner or later."
Yan Yu made the bed, and as soon as he turned around, he met a pair of almond-shaped eyes that were watery but burning with a small flame.
His heart skipped a beat, and a look of confusion flashed in his eyes.
What did he do wrong?
"Tangtang? What's wrong?" he asked tentatively, lowering his voice.
Ruan Tang turned her head and glared at him: "It's nothing."
That haughty look doesn't seem like anger at all; it's more like she's being coquettish.
Yan Yu felt a sense of relief, and the smile in his eyes almost overflowed, but he still patiently pointed to the large, unopened package on the ground.
"Then... Tangtang, can I help you open the package and make the bed while I'm at it?"
Ruan Tang looked at the package on the ground and realized that this guy seemed to have been pulling weeds. She quickly looked up and scanned him.
Seeing that the other person was clean, he felt relieved and was about to nod when he heard a shout coming from the courtyard.
"Yan Zhiqing! Ruan Zhiqing! Are you home?" It was Chen Fengshan's loud voice.
Yan Yu raised an eyebrow and reached out to stop Ruan Tang, who was about to leave: "Tangtang, you unpack the package, take a break when you're done, and I'll go out."
Ruan Tang nodded and hummed in agreement. She watched his tall figure disappear through the door before starting to unpack the package.
She dragged out all the blankets, mattresses, and pillows at once, and a musty smell hit her. She wrinkled her nose in disgust, took out a dust-removing talisman, and flicked it lightly.
The talisman transformed into a faint light, instantly sweeping over all the bedding and pillows, even dispelling the damp smell completely.
After finishing these tasks, Ruan Tang took out from her spatial storage the sky-blue quilt cover, the pillowcase and pillow towel embroidered with orchids, and a delicate pure cotton sheet that the puppet granny had made, and began to make the bed.
Yan Yu had already gone out to greet them in the courtyard.
Chen Fengshan greeted the people with a hearty laugh and introduced them, "Yan Zhiqing, these are all experts from our village."
He pointed to each person and introduced them one by one, "This is Chen Tiezhu, Qian Daguo, Wu Changli, Han Dazhuang, Jiang Guohua, and Chen Baozhong. Look, besides that well, where else needs repair?"
Each time Chen Fengshan introduced someone, Yan Yu would take out a cigarette from his bag, step forward, and hand it to him, politely addressing him as "Uncle" or "Brother."
His actions were both familiar and showed no sign of disrespect. The men, who had been somewhat reserved, immediately broke into smiles, and the atmosphere instantly became lively.
After exchanging pleasantries for a while, Yan Yu pointed to the roof and the kitchen and said, "Besides the well, the main thing is the roof tiles. Some of them are broken and need to be replaced. Also, the stoves on both sides should be rebuilt to make them sturdier."
"Alright!" The dark-faced man named Chen Tiezhu patted his chest and agreed, "We're good at this!"
The group quickly divided the work, and at Yan Yu's request, they started by repairing Ruan Tang's courtyard.
For a time, the small courtyard was filled with clanging and banging, bustling with activity.
This busy work continued until dusk before the two courtyards were finally repaired.
The roof tiles of both courtyards have been replaced with new ones, and the stove has been rebuilt solidly with yellow mud and bricks, but it cannot be used yet, as it must be completely dry.
The well has been cleaned up, but the water needs to settle for a day or two before it can be drawn up and drunk.
Even the section of the wall behind the west courtyard that had collapsed was rebuilt by several men who moved stones and repaired it.
The workers took their wages and left happily.
Chen Fengshan stayed behind last, counting out ten yuan from his pocket and handing it back to Yan Yu: "One yuan per person for labor, plus the cost of the tiles and stones, it totaled ten yuan. Keep the rest." (This chapter has been read. Please click the next chapter to continue reading!)
