Chapter 146 Finally, they're gone (1/2)

Yan Yu held the soft little girl in his arms, the surging emotions in his chest still not subsided.

This feeling was even more intense than when he first awakened his superpowers.

He really... struck gold.

The little girl is not only his precious child, but also a beacon that guides him to a whole new level.

Yan Yu tightened his arms, wishing he could meld Ruan Tang into his very bones, and gently rubbed his chin against the top of her fluffy hair.

In his consciousness, her steady heartbeat, warm body temperature, and unique sweet fragrance acted like a powerful medicine, scalding away the last trace of resentment in his soul.

He lowered his head and placed a deep kiss on Ruan Tang's smooth forehead.

………………………………

Late at night, at the educated youth settlement.

A row of people lay sprawled on the earthen bed, their snores and teeth grinding echoing throughout.

Yu Hao, however, was not sleepy at all. He was hunched over, and the moment his toes touched the cold ground, he shivered.

He rolled off the kang (a heated brick bed) silently, like a cat.

He held his breath and listened for a long time, making sure that everyone except him and Yu Siyuan, who had been specially arranged to be by his side, was fast asleep before he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

I'm still not at ease.

He pulled a small paper packet from his pocket. It was a sleeping potion that Yan Yu had prepared for him, which could make people sleep like the dead.

He tiptoed around, waving his arms under everyone's noses.

After doing all this, he walked to the door, pressed his back against the cold door panel, and waited quietly.

Not long after, three very soft knocks came from outside the door, tap, tap, tap. It sounded like someone was knocking with their knuckles.

signal!

Yu Hao's heart tightened, and he immediately unlatched the door.

A cold wind suddenly rushed in, and a tall, dark figure stood outside the door, blocking out the moonlight. It was Uncle Yu, Grandpa's most trusted bodyguard.

Behind Uncle Yu were three expressionless men, whose faint smell of rust could be detected even through the wind and snow.

Uncle Yu's real name is Yu Zhong. He was an orphan that his grandfather picked up during the war. He has his grandfather's orders ingrained in his bones.

"Uncle Fish," Yu Hao called out in a low voice.

Uncle Yu nodded at him, his eyes as cold as ice. He glanced around the room and then gestured to the people behind him.

The two men slipped into the room without making a sound, like two shadows, and went straight to the bunk where Yu Siyuan was sleeping.

Yu Siyuan suddenly opened his eyes in his sleep, his face full of terror.

Just as he was about to open his mouth, a hand as big as a fan tightly covered his mouth, while another person lifted him out of the bed like a chick.

"Ugh... Ugh!"

Yu Siyuan's legs thrashed wildly in the air, but under the man's iron grip, he was no different from a fluttering grasshopper.

The other man stayed behind and quickly packed Yu Siyuan's meager belongings.

Looking at Uncle Yu's cold face, Yu Hao felt his throat go dry and dared not breathe, following behind them in silence.

The group walked out of the educated youth settlement and headed towards the row of low adobe houses next to the cowshed.

The night wind was like a knife, stinging his face.

Uncle Fish stopped in front of a dilapidated wooden door and knocked on it.

"Who is it? In the middle of the night! Yu Hao, I'm warning you, get back inside right now!" came Yu Meijuan's voice, barely containing her anger, from inside the house.

Uncle Yu ignored her and spoke in a deep voice, not loud, but like a hammer hitting a door.

"Open the door."

With just those two words, the noise inside the room instantly ceased.

A moment later, the sound of rustling clothes being put on came from inside, along with Xu Wenbo's flustered attempts to comfort him.

The door creaked open.

Xu Wenbo and Yu Meijuan stood at the door, their faces pale, wrapped in their clothes, looking as if they had seen a ghost.

Uncle Yu didn't even glance at them, and led his men straight into the small room.
