"you……"
Yu Hao felt a lump in his throat, his face turning a deep purplish-red, but he couldn't utter a single word in rebuttal.
Yu Siyuan took a step forward, his slender body standing ramrod straight.
"You tricked me into coming here, saying you were bringing my family together."
"My parents are picking up cow dung there now, and you want to kick me out again?"
He tugged at the corners of his mouth, a smile that looked more like a grimace.
"Cousin, isn't it really fun to play tricks on me?"
"I didn't! I'm doing this for your own good!" Yu Hao was so anxious he was jumping up and down.
"For my own good?"
Yu Siyuan stared intently at him and asked, word by word, "You want me to go back to the city and be a coward, just watching them suffer and wait to die here?"
"I can't accept this kind of 'goodness'."
He took a deep breath, looked past Yu Hao, and stared straight at Yan Yu, who had remained silent.
"I want to stay."
"Whether it's doing manual labor or cutting reeds, as long as I can see my parents every day and bring them a hot meal, I'll stay."
Ruan Tang held the hot tea, slowly blowing on the steam rising from the rim of the cup, her large, watery almond-shaped eyes curving into beautiful little crescents.
Wow, this is much more exciting than the stories in picture books.
One cried and begged to leave, while the other desperately tried to stay.
Yu Hao was completely dumbfounded, like a punctured balloon, and his whole body slumped down.
He was wrong.
He thought that taking responsibility meant getting people out of the fire.
But he forgot that for some people, survival lies precisely in the fire pit.
"Heh."
A very soft, cold laugh escaped Yan Yu's throat, like an ice needle pricking Yu Hao's ears painfully.
Yan Yu made a move.
He stood up, and his tall shadow instantly enveloped the two brothers, creating an oppressive atmosphere that made it hard to breathe.
He didn't even glance at them, walked straight to Ruan Tang's side, took the warm teacup from her hand, and his voice was devoid of any emotion.
"Are you done talking?"
He was asking about Yu Hao.
Yu Hao shuddered and nodded subconsciously.
"Then get lost."
Yan Yu's gaze finally fell on him, so cold it felt like ice crystals were falling from his eyes.
"I'll just remind you of one thing."
He paused, each word sounding as if it had been pulled from an ice cellar.
"Don't bother her anymore."
After saying that, he opened the door directly.
A gust of cold wind, carrying snow pellets, suddenly rushed in.
"roll."
One word, no room for negotiation whatsoever.
Yu Hao and Yu Siyuan stood frozen in place.
Yu Siyuan was shy, and his face turned red as he tried to rush out, but Yu Hao grabbed him tightly.
Yu Hao knew perfectly well that his brother's devilish demeanor wasn't because he was angry at them, but because they had taken up Ruan Tang's time and disturbed her peace!
Just as the two were struggling, Ruan Tang's soft, sweet voice rang out.
"Alright, stop putting on a show in front of my house, it's freezing."
She smiled at the two embarrassed people, but her words were cutting: "Don't you know what's going on with the Jixiang Brigade? The fact that your parents were able to be placed here means someone has taken care of things; no one will die."
"You two, one is brainless and the other is weak. You should think about how you're going to survive first."
With just a few words, Ruan Tang broke through that barrier.
Yu Hao was used to relying on Yan Yu and was too lazy to think for himself.
Yan Yu, on the other hand, had completely lost his patience.
In his eyes, Yu Hao was no longer the brother he could entrust his life to, but a fool who couldn't even take responsibility for his own life.
He will no longer take responsibility for anyone's life.
The courtyard gate slammed shut behind me with a loud bang, the sound of the bolt falling cold and hard.
