She gently patted Tuantuan with one hand, and the little guy made a couple of whimpers. She picked him up and fed him milk. After eating and drinking his fill, the little guy quickly fell asleep again.
The next morning, Xie Mingzhu was so excited that she couldn't sleep. She got up as soon as it was getting light.
The yard was quiet except for the crowing of a chicken belonging to someone. When she came out after washing up, she saw Huang Meiling sitting on the sofa, having gotten up at some point.
Hearing a noise behind her, Huang Meiling put down her newspaper, looked up and said, "Mingzhu, why are you up so early? I was worried about disturbing your rest and wanted you to sleep a little longer."
Xie Mingzhu sat down. Today was a very special day for her. She had specially worn a new dress that Shu Ying had given her before, and her two braids were combed smooth and shiny.
"I usually get up at this time. I've developed this habit over the years in the countryside. Going to bed early and getting up early is good for your health."
As the mother and daughter were talking, Xie Wenyuan, who had gone out for exercise, returned home. In the yard were small cucumbers that Xie Mingzhu had grown herself. They were fresh and crisp, full of moisture in the morning, and looked very tempting. Xie Wenyuan picked one at random and opened the door to find them sitting on the sofa chatting.
His smile was somewhat forced, and he felt an indescribable apology towards Xie Mingzhu.
"You two are awake? I just went to ask, and the household registration office doesn't open until 8 a.m., so we have two hours. We're not in a hurry to go now."
Huang Meiling held Xie Mingzhu's hand with obvious affection. No wonder she always felt that Xie Wanying's temper was really strange; it turned out that she wasn't her child at all.
“Mingzhu, my father is just not good with words. Actually, he cares about you a lot. On the way back, he asked me about you countless times. Once we spend more time together as a family, you’ll understand. He’s just not good with words. Your brother is the same way.”
Xie Mingzhu couldn't hide her smile. After so many years in the countryside, she had long since learned to read people's expressions and demeanor. She could tell what kind of temperament a person had in just a few words.
My parents are the best people. Whether a person is good or bad depends not on what they say, but on what they do.
“I know that Mom and Dad are usually very busy with work. You have always been my role models. It’s not easy for our family to be reunited. All those little things are insignificant. Dad, I know how good you are. We will have a long time to spend together in the future, so there’s no need to rush.”
Xie Wenyuan's voice trembled slightly as he nodded, "Oh, my good daughter."
Xie Mingzhu's eyes were filled with a clear smile. Although her parents always handled her hands with a bit of care, she could understand their feelings.
In their old age, they finally found their biological daughter and wanted to give her the best of everything. If it were her, she would do the same.
The most important thing now is for her to adapt to this family and her new parents as soon as possible so that they can enjoy their later years in peace.
Huang Meiling looked at her with a benevolent expression, then glanced at Xie Wenyuan, who had specially dressed in a new outfit, and couldn't help but tease him a bit.
“Your dad has almost worn out all the new clothes he’s ever had in the last two days. When he came back yesterday, he wanted to make a good impression on you, so he specially wore the clothes he bought for Zhiyan’s wedding. The outfit he’s wearing today was also bought for him by Yingying a few years ago. Although he doesn’t say it, he’s always been hoping that you’ll call him ‘Dad’.”
