Hearing the rhythmic sounds, Grandma Zhang quickly threw off the covers, got out of bed, and went to open the door.
When Zhao Hui and Sang Youde's faces came into view, Granny Zhang was overjoyed. She stepped aside to let them in and then quickly closed the door.
Grandma Zhang then asked in a low voice, "Why are you here?"
Today the space was upgraded, and they said it now has a location tracking function.
Zhao Hui and Sang Youde studied it for a while and decided to try locating Zhangjia Village. Unexpectedly, it actually worked.
Zhao Hui had been wanting to bring New Year's Eve dinner to Grandma Zhang's family, and now that the opportunity had come, how could she let it pass?
So the two walked to the vicinity of the cowshed and took the lunchbox out of the space.
Grandma Zhang looked closely and exclaimed, "You brought so much stuff?"
Zhao Hui replied, "We came wrapped up in our coats, so we're still hot. Would you like to eat it while it's hot?"
These foods have a strong flavor, so they might not be convenient to eat during the day, and they don't keep for long either.
Grandma Zhang decided to wake up her daughter-in-law and her family of four so they could have a late-night snack together.
Grandma Zhang's daughter-in-law and son yawned, "Aunt Zhao, Uncle Sang, hello."
The daughter-in-law nudged the two children, who immediately said, "Hello, Grandpa Sang and Grandma Zhao."
Zhao Hui said softly, "Hey, I brought you New Year's Eve dinner. Eat it while it's hot."
Sang Youde helped open all the lids, and the room was instantly filled with the aroma of food.
"Is this braised beef?" Grandma Zhang asked, pointing to one of the dishes.
"Yes, I made the braising liquid myself. Why don't you try it and see how it tastes?" Zhao Hui replied.
"It looks delicious," Grandma Zhang joked.
She's been eating too much coarse food lately, so her standards for food aren't as high as they used to be.
The two children were gnawing on a pig's trotter, and apart from the chewing sounds, it was very quiet.
After taking a sip of the mutton and radish soup, Grandma Zhang's daughter-in-law felt much warmer.
The family shared a pot of soup.
"You can save these glutinous rice pearl balls for the daytime, but it's best to finish the rest tonight," Zhao Hui reminded.
She was worried that they had weak stomachs, so she didn't bring many glutinous rice balls.
Seeing that it was almost time, Zhao Hui and Sang Youde hurried back. The Zhang family ate until their bellies were full before quietly cleaning up and going to sleep with satisfaction.
They never imagined that on the first day of the new year, they would be able to eat a meal they never dared to dream of.
These foods were just ordinary foods for them in the past, but for them now, they are delicacies!
...
Zhao Hui and Sang Youde slept for three hours after returning to their space before going back to their guest room in the family compound.
Although they sleep less, they are well-rested and full of energy.
The two made breakfast first, and then went out for a morning run.
On the morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year, there were almost no people on the streets.
The air here is fresher than in the city, and when the two of them took a breath of the cool air, it wasn't as cold as they had imagined.
"Grandpa and Grandma Xiaoyu, no wonder you look so young, you're out exercising so early!"
“Yes, it’s a habit of decades, and I can’t change it at all,” Zhao Hui said with a smile.
The man spoke with them for a while, then hurriedly left.
"I saw her carrying a shopping basket, could she have gone to buy groceries early this morning?" Zhao Hui muttered to herself.
Sang Youde said casually, "It should be that you have to queue up early for things like tofu and meat, otherwise they'll be sold out."
"There were no supply trucks to pick her up in the morning, so did she walk?"
"Maybe they hitched a ride with the military."
"That's true."
