Chapter 2 Escaping the Basement (1/2)

Sang Feiyu gasped for breath, and Tao Ronggui's hand, which was supporting her, trembled violently.

The two looked up in unison, but saw no one. The next second, Aunt Liu Ying's voice came down, "Did I leave my earring in the basement?"

Tao Ronggui's eyes widened, and he quickly shoved the person back into the basement. Sang Feiyu obediently lay on the ground, grabbed a rope from the side and haphazardly wrapped it around her twice to create the illusion that her hands and feet were tied.

"Mom, why are you back?" Tao Ronggui asked with a grin as he walked up the stairs.

Liu Ying was startled. "What are you doing here?"

Tao Ronggui lowered his voice, "Dad and my older brother already gave her a beating today. I was thinking of pretending to be kind and bringing her some food to see if I could get her to talk."

"So what's the situation now?" Liu Ying asked anxiously.

"She finally opened her mouth, and I felt like I had a chance."

Liu Ying urged, "Then put in more effort and try to get this done today."

"Tickets to Hong Kong are limited, we need to buy them as soon as possible!"

Moreover, those antique paintings, jewelry, and jade are inconvenient to take with you; you have to find a way to exchange them for cash and gold bars, which takes time.

"Okay, I understand."

Tao Ronggui changed the subject, "Mom, could you please not tell Dad and my older brother for now?"

"I'm worried that if it doesn't work out, I'll disappoint them, which wouldn't be good."

Liu Ying readily agreed, "Okay, you should try to coax her. Girls love to hear sweet words."

Only after watching his mother leave did Tao Ronggui feel a great weight lifted from his heart.

He waited a while longer, making sure no one was home, before turning around to look for Sang Feiyu.

"Bang!"

Tao Ronggui was struck on the head and fell onto the blood-stained iron rod.

My uncle and cousin used this iron rod to beat Sang Feiyu.

Worried that the person hadn't passed out, Sang Feiyu struck him twice more with the stick!

Afterwards, she kicked Tao Ronggui twice, but he didn't react at all, so she went upstairs as if she knew the way.

This Western-style building was where she lived when she was a child. Later, her grandparents shamelessly brought her uncle's family to Guangzhou to stay with them.

Grandparents and uncle and aunt were all peasants from the countryside with poor living habits. Sang Feiyu's mother could not stand living under the same roof as them, but she was concerned that they were Sang Feiyu's father's family. So she could only buy another Western-style house. From then on, the three of them lived in the newly bought house.

Afterwards, his grandparents repeatedly asked his father to transfer the house directly to his uncle, but his father refused each time.

The property deed for this building is still in my father's name.

Over the years, both my uncle and cousin worked at the Cantonese restaurant founded by Sang Feiyu's parents, but neither of them were given important positions by their parents.

My uncle only went to primary school. After all these years, he only managed to get a minor management position.

Although my cousin graduated from university, my father refused to arrange a core management position for him, arguing that he was not suitable.

My cousin could only follow my uncle around, and was essentially my uncle's assistant.

My uncle's salary is a little higher than that of an ordinary worker, while my cousin's salary is only that of a temporary worker.

Even though my grandparents secretly gave my uncle's family a lot of financial support, they still struggled to make ends meet.

Because of this, the grandparents, encouraged by their uncle and aunt, made quite a few fuss.
