Li Cuilan's face was so gloomy it could drip water. Unable to bear it any longer, she opened the door and walked out, saying, "Who doesn't rely on their son for old age?"
Everyone was clearly surprised by her sudden appearance and paused for a moment, but no one seemed embarrassed. After all, what they said was true, so what was there to be afraid of?
Li Cuilan glanced at them and said, "Don't you expect to rely on your son for your old age?"
"It's true that we'll rely on our son for our old age, but we didn't help our daughter raise her kids for ten years. We raised our grandchildren with our help."
"You'll take care of whoever you need in your old age, unlike you."
"No wonder your daughter-in-law made a scene at your daughter's workplace. Who could stand such an injustice?"
"A person only has one face, so I suggest you save your face and avoid losing it."
Everyone chimed in, one after another, until Li Cuilan's face turned red.
Li Cuilan pursed her lips tightly, unable to refute.
Because she knew that for every one rebuttal she made, the other person would have ten more to say, and she would never win the argument.
Just as Li Cuilan was about to sneak home, she saw a familiar face appear in front of her. It was her daughter Qian Ying's mother-in-law.
She had originally agreed to live with her son in her old age, but now she has suddenly returned to her daughter's home. This makes Li Cuilan feel a little guilty when she sees her in-laws, as she worries that she might cause her daughter to be disliked by her in-laws.
"My dear in-law, I heard from others that you were here, and I thought they were joking."
"What's going on?"
"Didn't you go to live with your son to retire?"
"You're getting old, it's not good for you to be constantly on the go."
Li Cuilan forced a smile. "My dear in-law, this is a long story. Let's go inside and have a good talk."
She didn't want to reveal her private affairs in public, lest these people outside hear it and spread the word about her within half a day.
Grandma Qian Ying had the same idea as Li Cuilan. She followed Li Cuilan into the house, closed the door, and her face instantly turned cold.
She found a seat and sat down, then gestured to Li Cuilan, "In-law, please sit down."
Li Cuilan froze, feeling as if she had been turned the tables.
For her, this place has been her home for ten years.
For Grandma Qian Ying, this is her son's home, and therefore her home.
Although Li Cuilan was unhappy, she still found an empty seat and sat down.
“In-law, tell me, why are you here again?” Grandma Qian Ying asked bluntly.
“My dear in-law, to be honest, my daughter-in-law blames me for taking care of Qian Ying’s child for ten years without helping her, so she won’t support me in my old age.”
"What?" Grandma Qian exclaimed in surprise, clearly not expecting that what she heard was actually true!
"You have a son, how can you expect your daughter to support you in your old age?"
She even plans to live with her son in her old age!
How can so many people live in such a cramped place?
The key issue is that she also has an old man; the three of them can't sleep in one room!
If word gets out, won't people laugh at their family?
Li Cuilan initially felt guilty, but what the outsiders said was true: whoever she helped, she would rely on for her old age!
"I helped my daughter raise her child for ten years. If I don't ask her to support me in my old age, who will I ask?"
"Back then, you couldn't bear to give up your job and refused to help my daughter take care of her child. Wasn't it because of you that I didn't have time to help my son take care of his child?"
Li Cuiying always tries to blame others when something goes wrong; it's definitely not her own fault.
