Chapter 100: Robbing a House?

Lin Ying tore off the paper she had drawn and gave it to Uncle Wu: "This is the machine I came up with for making fine rice mats. Uncle, could you ask someone to see if they can make it?"

Uncle Wu was even happier to hear this: "Oh, this is great! With this, Old Li will definitely be able to make it. If we didn't have it, we might have been researching for a long time. Girl, you've really done our Baoshan Village a big favor."

Lin Ying didn't seem to mind: "It was just a small favor."

Uncle Wu carefully put the paper away: "Your aunt has cooked dinner. We can talk about everything else after we finish eating."

Lin Ying nodded: "Okay!"

Lin Ying followed Uncle Wu into the kitchen, where Yang Jiazhen had already cooked and served the rice.

Lin Ying didn't ask them why it was just the two of them at home. She simply went over, washed her hands, and ate with them.

Lin Ying wasn't actually full after eating a bowl of noodles, but she knew that food was scarce in every household right now, so she could go back and eat again. It wouldn't matter if she didn't get full in one meal; she could just go into her space when she got hungry.

"Auntie's hand-pulled noodles smell delicious!"

Yang Jiazhen smiled and said, "That's because the meat you took smells better."

Lin Ying shook her head: "No, I ate a lot of meat, it's just that Auntie's cooking is so good."

Yang Jiazhen was even happier.

After lunch, Uncle Wu went to find Old Li, whom he had mentioned. Lin Ying and Yang Jiazhen stayed there and worked together to process the reeds. The reeds were divided into several portions.

Uncle Wu said he wanted to make a reed mat, and Yang Jiazhen knew how to make one too. It wasn't difficult, so they started making it at home.

Lin Ying sat down beside her, further subdivided the reeds, and tried weaving other things as well.

However, craftsmanship is truly required for delicate items, and Lin Ying spent a long time trying but couldn't get it to look decent. The only thing she managed to make, a vegetable basket, looked like it would break at the slightest touch.

Yang Jiazhen, who was standing to the side, laughed: "Your stuff will fall apart no matter what you put in it. You have to do it this way."

As she spoke, Yang Jiazhen began to teach Lin Ying.

Uncle Wu taught Lin Ying how to make baskets out of ula grass at home, so it seems like everyone here knows how to do these things.

Lin Ying excitedly said, "Auntie, it's not just straw mats, but also baskets like these, vegetable baskets, and suitcases. Anything we need in our daily lives, as long as you know how to make it, you can make samples for the commune director to see. Maybe it will work!"

Yang Jiazhen asked uncertainly, "Will this work?"

Lin Ying nodded vigorously: "Sure, why not? What you can use, others can use too. Besides, our products are definitely cheaper than those industrially made ones. Ordinary people are reluctant to spend money on those expensive things, so they'll settle for these."

Yang Jiazhen thought it made sense. Take the thermos flask for example, who wouldn't want an aluminum one? But those require industrial coupons, and they're out of stock. For months, haven't all households been using these bamboo ones?

And those umbrellas and raincoats. Do people even have those things when they go home now? Aren't they all just straw hats and straw mats?

The more Yang Jiazhen thought about it, the more agitated she became: "This is no small matter. I'll go and discuss it with your Uncle Wu." With that, Yang Jiazhen went out.

Lin Ying was left sitting there alone.

Lin Ying was somewhat helpless. As expected of a married couple, they couldn't care less about anything when they were in a hurry.

Moreover, she can't stay here for too long; she just doesn't know if Uncle Wu will remember to take her back.

Fortunately, someone came to Uncle Wu's house and saw Lin Ying sitting outside, smiling. "Comrade Lin Ying, I'm the village secretary, my name is Wang Fu. Wu Youcai, the village head, is too busy right now and asked me to take you home. The carriage is outside. Shall we go now?"

Lin Ying nodded: "Okay, let's go."

As she spoke, Lin Ying stood up, slung the basket over her shoulder, and followed the others outside.

Lin Ying had met Wang Fu before and knew that he was from the same village as Uncle Wu, so she had no reason to hesitate.

When she left, Lin Ying made sure to close the door behind her, even though the fence gate couldn't really stop anything.

Lin Ying returned to the military family compound after 2 p.m. Wang Fu needed to go back before dark, so he left without lingering after Lin Ying got out of the car.

Back home, Lin Ying couldn't wait to cook herself a pot of noodles.

Just as Lin Ying was wolfing down her food, Zhao Qinghuai walked in.

Seeing Lin Ying like this, Zhao Qinghuai couldn't help but laugh: "How long have you been starving? You're eating so fast!"

Lin Ying waved her hand: "I went to Uncle Wu's village with him. We ate lunch at Uncle Wu's house. I couldn't possibly eat three big bowls of food at someone else's house. I just got back, and you're back now."

Zhao Qinghuai felt sorry for him when he heard this: "Then you shouldn't eat out anymore."

Lin Ying listened to these words, but didn't take them to heart. This person will eventually leave. How can you be so certain?

After the two finished dinner, Zhao Qinghuai said, "I might have to go on a long trip tomorrow."

Lin Ying paused, and Zhao Qinghuai quickly explained, "It's not a mission. I need to personally select members for our special team. So I'm going to select and assess members. I won't be back for at least ten days to half a month."

Lin Ying breathed a sigh of relief: "Go ahead, I'll wait for you at home."

Zhao Qinghuai said, "I've already spoken to Wang Shan and Zhang Shanlin. If you need anything, you can go to them."

Lin Ying nodded: "Don't worry, I'm not the kind of person who causes trouble."

Lin Ying is not one to cause trouble, but that doesn't mean trouble doesn't bother her.

Just two days after Zhao Qinghuai left, Lin Ying heard a lot of noise outside.

When she went out, she saw an unfamiliar face outside the door, as well as two staff members from the logistics department.
