Originally, the basket Lin Ying made was filled with food from home when she came. Now, when she went back, besides the tea eggs Lin Ying cooked, there were only a few steamed buns and a jar of pickled vegetables. The rest of the basket contained two bottles of water, Er Ya's milk powder, and a baby bottle.
They need to take the train from here to Kyoto, and then transfer there.
It takes a whole day to get to Beijing from here, but luckily it's a small station and not many people are getting on the train. Zhao Qinghuai managed to get a hard sleeper. Plus, it's daytime, so it's a bit more comfortable.
When they boarded the bus, Lin Ying held Er Ya in one arm and Shuanzi in the other, while Zhao Qinghuai carried heavy luggage.
Once on the train, Lin Ying breathed a sigh of relief as the two children sat on the bed.
After Zhao Qinghuai put his luggage away, the train started moving.
Shuanzi was startled when he felt the floor moving. Lin Ying explained to him that it was a wheeled vehicle they had just ridden in, so it was moving.
After a while, once Shuanzi got used to it, he went back to his old ways.
Er Ya slept all night and is now wide awake, her little eyes darting around. Even though it's only the second time she's seen her, she's not shy at all. She even smiles at her.
This made Lin Ying's heart soften even more.
The two children liked to look out the window, and luckily, both she and Zhao Qinghuai had lower bunks, so one child was on each side of them. Zhao Qinghuai was holding Er Ya, while Shuanzi sat opposite him.
"Shuanzi, if you need to go to the toilet, tell your uncle and he'll take you to the outhouse."
Shuanzi obediently followed Zhao Qinghuai.
As for Er Ya, although she was always wearing diapers, Lin Ying would take her to the bathroom every hour. Gradually, she figured out her toilet habits.
About two hours later, boxed meals were served on the bus, and Zhao Qinghuai simply bought seven. Although Lin Ying had lost weight, she hadn't lost her strength and still had a large appetite.
Fortunately, there were few people on the bus, and they were the only ones in their stall. Apart from the staff member selling boxed lunches saying, "Comrade, we can't waste food," no one paid any attention to them.
Lin Ying ate three boxed meals, Zhao Qinghuai also ate three, and they finished off the leftovers from Shuanzi and Erya. When the staff came to collect the lunch boxes, they couldn't help but glance at Zhao Qinghuai again when they saw that the boxes were empty.
She doesn't look fat at all, so how can she eat so much?
After dinner, Lin Ying made a cup of milk for Shuanzi and a cup for Er Ya in a bottle.
After the two children had eaten and drunk their fill, they started to feel sleepy, so Lin Ying simply cuddled Er Ya and fell asleep.
Seeing Lin Ying holding Er Ya as she slept, Zhao Qinghuai's heart softened even more. He even thought how wonderful it would be if she were holding his daughter.
However, Zhao Qinghuai then thought about the amount of food his family of four ate and calmed down.
He and his wife ate six boxed meals, their two children ate one serving, plus two cups of milk powder.
Zhao Qinghuai suddenly realized that his salary might not be enough. He wanted to have children in the future, and it seemed that he would have to work harder.
Half asleep, Lin Ying heard someone talking. She opened her eyes and saw Zhao Qinghuai standing there, with a woman in her thirties next to him and a child in front of her.
"What's wrong?" Lin Ying asked Zhao Qinghuai.
Zhao Qinghuai explained, "This woman said her bed was on the top floor, and she wanted to switch places with me since she had a child."
Lin Ying nodded: "I'm going to sleep for a while. Er Ya keeps squirming. I'll take her to the toilet. Tell this sister-in-law to come over here. When I come back, I'll put Er Ya here and watch her. You can go upstairs and rest for a while too."
It's quieter upstairs; Zhao Qinghuai didn't sleep well last night.
Zhao Qinghuai was about to say something when Lin Ying interrupted him, saying, "We still have to catch the train tonight. You didn't get enough rest yesterday, and you'll have to worry about things tonight. You definitely can't not get some rest now."
Zhao Qinghuai then agreed.
The woman next to them, overhearing their conversation, was filled with gratitude: "Thank you, thank you so much. It's just that this child is too big to climb this ladder, and I can't carry him up and down. Otherwise, I wouldn't have troubled you so much."
Lin Ying picked up Er Ya and brought her own things over there: "Don't say that. It's not easy for people to be away from home with a child."
After Lin Ying took Er Ya to the toilet and came back, she told Zhao Qinghuai to go upstairs to sleep.
Shuanzi was still asleep, but Erya was awake, and Lin Ying was there with her, holding her as they looked at the scenery.
