Chapter 138 Visiting Bao Youxue

Lin Ying was always grateful to Director Bao. If it weren't for him, she wouldn't have had a good winter, and she wouldn't have had the opportunity to have that space.

However, Lin Ying didn't expect that before she could even express her gratitude, Director Bao excitedly said:

"Comrade Lin Ying, it's great to finally see you. You don't know, you're a benefactor to our whole family. We originally wanted to go and thank you in person, but we've been so busy lately that we haven't had the chance."

Lin Ying was completely bewildered. Seeing Lin Ying's expression, Director Bao said:

"Oh dear, this matter can't be explained in a short time. Well then, my house is nearby, you must come to my house for a visit today."

Out of gratitude, Lin Ying did not refuse.

Director Bao greeted the people next to him and then left the supply and marketing cooperative with Lin Ying.

After leaving the supply and marketing cooperative, walk to the left at the intersection and then turn left again to enter a residential area.

The neighborhood looks quite nice, with three-story brick buildings.

The group walked together to the building at the very front. They entered through the main door in the middle. Director Bao helped hold Shuanzi's hand, while Lin Ying carried Er Ya up to the second floor.

Director Bao's house is on the left side of the second floor.

The doors here are double-layered, with an outer iron protective door and an inner wooden door.

Director Bao skillfully took out the key and opened the iron gate. The wooden door was unlocked and opened with a push.

Seeing Bao Youxue return, his wife couldn't help but wonder, "Didn't you say you were very busy today? Why are you back at this hour?"

Bao Youxue said happily, "Of course it's good news. We've met the savior who saved our Chengcheng. Didn't we have some fish at home a few days ago? I remember there was also a piece of meat in the refrigerator. Let's cook it all today."

Upon hearing that she was the savior who had saved her grandson, the old lady stood up from her stool: "Oh, girl, come in and sit down quickly. It's so cold outside, come in and sit by the heater to warm up."

Lin Ying took out the sponge cake and sugar that she originally intended for the children: "Hello, Auntie, I'm sorry to bother you. If it weren't for Director Bao's help last year, I wouldn't have been able to bring back so many quilts. I'm especially grateful to Director Bao, so when he said he was coming to my house, I just came straight here."

Hearing her say that, Bao Youxue's wife felt even more relieved: "Oh, you can't say that. If it weren't for you, Chengcheng would be dead. If anyone should be thanking you, it's us who should thank you. Come on, put your things down and sit on the sofa with the child by the fire. I'll go get you some hot water to warm up."

After saying that, Bao Youxue's wife went to the kitchen.

Lin Ying carried Er Ya to the radiator: "You guys were talking about saving lives just now, Director Bao, did something happen at home?"

Bao Youxue said, "It's because my son is too mischievous. A while ago, when we organized a fishing trip down the river, he insisted on going. He made such a fuss that his dad had no choice but to take him."

Who knew that when this kid saw a fish emerge from my net and about to fall into the puddle, he panicked and lunged at it. The fish pulled him in with it. Although we managed to get him out quickly, he developed a high fever that night from the cold.

"Sigh, hospitals these days are full of all sorts of freaks, but there's not a single decent doctor. My grandson had a high fever that night and went into convulsions; the fever hasn't gone down yet."

Bao Youxue still feels lingering fear when he thinks about what happened that day. His wife fainted, and his daughter-in-law cried until she was completely exhausted. They took money to the hospital, but still couldn't cure their child.

"Later, it was an old lady in the next room who suggested we find a way to cool the child down and told us to wipe the child with a towel. That's when I saw the necklace you gave my grandson around his neck."

A year had passed, and Bao Youxue had long forgotten about it. He would never have thought of it if he hadn't seen the necklace.

The situation was urgent, and his hands were trembling as he opened the silver necklace. He was quite excited when he saw that the pills were still there.

He eagerly opened the gold foil wrapping of the pill, then opened the wax-sealed pill, and tremblingly stuffed the pill into his grandson's mouth.

His son and daughter-in-law were watching him do this.

They probably didn't expect there to be something hidden in the necklace their son was wearing.

The son said that a fat aunt saved him and this was a gift from her. The two of them didn't think it was anything random, so they let the son keep it.

Unexpectedly, this thing contained a hidden secret.

Gao Ru was still a little scared when she realized what was happening. How could she put such an unknown thing into her son's mouth?

"Dad, what did you feed Chengcheng? He's already in this state, and you're still feeding him random things?"

Bao Youxue was about to explain that this wasn't some nonsense when his son said, "He's sweating. Chengcheng is starting to sweat."

The grandson, who had been suffering from a persistent high fever, gradually felt his fever subside after he started sweating, and his convulsions stopped.

Their biggest worry—that their child might develop cerebral palsy due to a fever—did not come true.

After my grandson recovered, not only was he completely fine, but he also became healthier.

His daughter-in-law realized she had said the wrong thing and apologized to him. However, for a while afterward, she kept subtly inquiring about the pills from time to time, but he always managed to brush her off.

Bao Youxue could understand her. His in-laws hadn't been doing well last year, but somehow they'd managed to pull through for a year. It was understandable that his daughter-in-law wanted that medicine to save her mother's life.

However, that pill was something that was extremely rare and hard to come by. Not to mention that he couldn't get a second one. Even if he could, he wouldn't be so generous as to give it away so easily.
