Bao Youxue's family seemed to be well-off; they had more and larger rooms than the average family.
The kitchen looks a bit cramped because of this stove, but overall it's not bad.
Lin Ying glanced around and saw that the honeycomb briquettes were all laid out on the balcony. The balcony was enclosed, and although the kitchen wasn't large, there was enough space to move around in, including the balcony.
This is also because Bao Youxue's family is well-off, there are always people at home, and someone is also there to run the heating.
Most families are lucky to have even one central heating system. They typically use a fire in the living room and one separate heating system in the bedroom. Besides, no one is home during the day. If someone doesn't come home all day, the stove will go out.
To prevent the heating system from freezing, we drain all the water from the heating system after getting up in the morning.
I'll add more water when I get back tonight.
Although it's a bit of a hassle, it prevents ice from forming in the radiators and cracking them. Plus, at least my face is warm when I wake up after a night's sleep. I also have hot water to wash my face. It's pretty good enough.
Although Bao Youxue's house wasn't as warm as Lin Ying's, it was still quite adequate. At least, they could take off their hats and gloves.
We can take off our thick cotton-padded coats now.
Bao Youxue's wife took out the fish and meat from the house and put them on the stove to defrost. Then she came out and started chatting with Lin Ying.
Later, when others went in to cook, Lin Ying felt embarrassed to sit there, so she took Er Ya to the bathroom. After she finished using the toilet, she put Er Ya in the basket and asked Shuanzi to watch her go in and help.
The old lady was initially reluctant, saying she could just watch the child. But then she saw Er Ya sitting in the basket by herself. Lin Ying took out a mink coat from the basket, and the military coat wrapped Er Ya comfortably around herself.
Now, after drinking her milk, Er Ya is dozing off inside, touching Dou Dou.
The old lady looked on with great curiosity: "Your two children are so well-behaved. They never stop making a fuss."
Lin Ying added, "Yes, that's right. I rarely see the little one cry. The older one is more obedient; he takes care of his younger sister when I'm busy."
Speaking of this, the old lady finished venting her frustrations: "It's better to have two children in the family. But no matter how much I say, they just won't have two. Now Chengcheng is spoiled by the whole family. If it weren't for my husband being a bit stricter, he probably wouldn't be able to control his temper."
When the old lady said these things, Lin Ying would usually just smile and remain silent.
It's their family matter. What are you doing commenting on things you don't even know? Going along with the old lady, they are, after all, their children. You say that the old lady feels better now, but what will happen after you leave?
If you don't go along with the old lady's wishes, she will be even more unhappy.
It was just a grumble, and Lin Ying just laughed it off.
Halfway through making lunch, Bao Youxue returned with his grandson, carrying a lunchbox.
When Bao Youxue entered the room, he saw that Er Ya was already asleep. Seeing the people in the kitchen, he told his grandson to keep his voice down and took the things to the kitchen.
"The child is asleep. Put the child in the room and let him sleep on the bed for a while. Your aunt and I can take care of things here."
Lin Ying glanced at Er Ya, who was already asleep, and even Shuanzi was starting to feel drowsy.
"I got up a bit early today, and I guess both kids are sleepy. Let them sleep on the sofa for a while. There's heating there, so they won't be cold."
Lin Ying didn't like outsiders coming to her kang (heated brick bed), so she went to other people's beds. Who doesn't hide something? It would be troublesome if something happened.
After drying her hands, Lin Ying took Er Ya out of the basket. She took Er Ya's diaper pad and blanket out of the basket and spread them on the sofa. Then she put Er Ya on the sofa and covered her with her mink coat. Then she covered her with the coat again.
After finishing with Er Ya, Lin Ying picked up Shuanzi, who was standing by the radiator and now lying on the back of the sofa.
The little guy hadn't slept soundly yet, and since this wasn't home, he struggled whenever Lin Ying touched him.
It was Lin Ying who said from the side, "Don't be afraid, it's your aunt." Only then did Shuanzi relax.
Lin Ying carried Shuanzi to the sofa and took off his shoes, coat, and pants. She then placed him next to Er Ya.
"Go to sleep. Your aunt isn't going anywhere."
Because of Lin Ying's words, Shuanzi's struggling eyes finally relaxed and closed.
Lin Ying covered the two children with a coat, and then covered them with the clothes the children had taken off and her own clothes.
After finishing all that, she finally looked at Chengcheng, who had been staring at her the whole time.
Although they had only met once, Lin Ying still recognized the chubby-faced little guy.
He's definitely a very resilient child. In just a short while, his little eyes have already darted around several times.
Lin Ying smiled and asked, "Do you still recognize your aunt?"
Chengcheng had already heard from his grandfather on the way that the aunt who called him had come to their house today.
Although the woman had changed a lot, he still recognized her.
"Yes, yes! Grandpa said you saved me twice, you're my benefactor."
Lin Ying couldn't help but laugh: "Do you even know what a benefactor is?"
Chengcheng nodded: "Of course I know. My brother Qiangzi said he'd repay the life-saving grace with his body!"
"Haha, so you even know how to offer yourself in marriage?"
Chengcheng patted his chest and said, "Of course! Don't worry, Auntie, I'll definitely marry you when I grow up!"
Just as Chengcheng finished speaking, Bao Youxue came out of the kitchen. Hearing this, he couldn't help but laugh: "Someone like you wants to get married? What? Someone saved you, and you still want to suffer this humiliation?"
Bao Youxue's wife, who was standing nearby, also came out and said, "Go wash your hands and eat. All you ever do is say things that make people laugh until their stomachs hurt."
Lin Ying got up and came over to help: "Kids are cute like this."
