Chapter 147 Vehicle Upgrade

After five busy days, Zhao Qinghuai still didn't know what Lin Ying was doing before he went on his mission.

I left with this slight regret.

After swinging the sledgehammer for five days, Lin Ying refused to tell him what she was doing. Looking at the look in Zhao Qinghuai's eyes before he went on his mission, Lin Ying couldn't help but laugh.

But she still didn't tell him what she was doing.

Lin Ying's family didn't use coal before, and they had accumulated a lot of it. Now that she's made this bucketful, most of it has gone down.

At first, people would come to watch the banging and clanging around their house, but later no one came anymore.

Lin Ying spends her afternoons here, in addition to going to work in the morning.

The knocking finally stopped on the tenth day.

These small parts used a total of three radiators. Now, the radiators that were originally in groups of ten have become seven.

Lin Ying assembled the parts first, and then began assembling the heater.

After that, Lin Ying disassembled her toy car and began to reassemble it.

That's right, Lin Ying plans to modify a steam car.

Lin Ying had initially just felt the car was a bit cold and was thinking of installing a heater. Then her mind started wandering to the steam trains of the past.

Then I started thinking about the feasibility of this.

She only started working now, after she had hand-molded all the parts.

In fact, the most difficult part was the steam pipe. Because there were no tools, Lin Ying had to heat a piece of iron until it was red-hot, roll it up, and then fix it with wire.

Lin Ying had considered asking the factory for help, but they were so busy and she was so free, why should she waste their time?

Originally, Lin Ying's car was a box; now, all Lin Ying has to do is build a metal frame in front of the box.

The main frame of the shelf is still wood, but the parts that might get burned by fire are covered with a layer of sheet metal.

Lin Ying found the inner liner of a radiator that was placed on the chimney. She directly used the inner liner that was originally placed on the stove, along with sheet metal and yellow clay, to make a stove. The top was also directly connected to the radiator chimney. It was equivalent to directly heating the radiator. There was a drawer in front of the stove. By simply pulling out the drawer from the front, the entire fire could be removed.

As for where to add firewood, it's located inside the front carriage, near a small door.

When you first start lighting it, you need to use the drawer outside. Then put the drawer under the stove. After getting in the truck, you can add firewood directly inside.

Lin Ying originally planned to make a more advanced piston car. However, that kind of car requires more sophisticated craftsmanship, and she doesn't have the necessary equipment.

So, she did the jetpack, the simplest kind.

Lin Ying was a bit greedy; she wanted both heating and a steam car.

However, for steam to generate sufficient heat, it needs to reach a certain temperature. But radiators don't require that much heat. Crucially, with radiators providing heat, steam can easily become insufficiently hot in such cold weather.

Therefore, Lin Ying initially thought of making two sets. One set was specifically for making the steam boiler, and the other set was for heating radiators.

Lin Ying didn't work on that for the time being, but instead focused on the steam engine part first.

Originally, the chimney had three openings: a water inlet, a heating inlet, and an outlet. Now, the outlet is simply a faucet, the heating inlet has become a water inlet, and the original inlet has become an air valve.

It's similar to boiling water. When both the water outlet and the inlet are blocked, the water in the pot will boil, and steam will naturally come out from the top.

Lin Ying made a separator at the location of the air outlet valve, which had three ports. Two of them were connected to the separator with pipes thinner than a thumb.

Then, a multi-bladed iron fan was installed on each side of the carriage.

When the gas is ejected, the fan rotates. The gears behind the fan turn, which in turn drives the rear wheels of the car. This is the simplest method Lin Ying could think of.

A valve is installed at the third port of the separator. The valve is controlled from inside the vehicle. To stop the car, simply deflate the tires and then apply the brakes.

Of course, this wasn't as simple as it seemed. Luckily, Lin Ying had the next day off, otherwise she really wouldn't have been able to finish it in a day.

Once everything was assembled, Lin Ying began to build the overall frame.

The wheel control remains the same, except it has been moved forward a little bit.

Due to limited materials, Lin Ying couldn't make a steel steering wheel; she could only make this type with push-pull handles.

Of course, to prevent the car from becoming top-heavy, Lin Ying enlarged the space inside.

The heating pipes were also covered with yellow mud and then insulated with wooden boards to prevent the child from getting too hot. Lin Ying would have preferred underfloor heating if it weren't unavailable, but the conditions didn't allow it.
