Chapter 210 Returning Home

Having rescued Gu Lang, Zhao Qinghuai's mission was considered successfully completed. In addition, he had been away for half a year, so it was time for him to rest.

So, on the way back, Zhao Qinghuai simply went back with Lin Ying.

With Zhao Qinghuai around, Lin Ying naturally didn't need to drive. She sat in the car with the children, playing games and enjoying the scenery together.

Zhao Qinghuai looked at the person in the rearview mirror and couldn't help but smile.

Zhao Qinghuai noticed the car was different, but he attributed it to the uniqueness of Lin Ying's space, perhaps because she had obtained some special materials there. As for the rest, Zhao Qinghuai didn't care.

Lin Ying's love for him was unquestionable, and so was his.

He no longer needed to care about anything else.

The further north they went, the colder the weather became. With Zhao Qinghuai as their cover and a driver, the journey was actually quite pleasant.

Unlike when they came, Lin Ying would sometimes continue their journey after dark when the children were asleep, in order to hurry on their way.

They just keep going, stopping whenever they get hungry. After lunch, Lin Ying and the children take a nap while Zhao Qinghuai drives on his way.

In the evening, Zhao Qinghuai rested while she and the children set up tents.

Of course, Zhao Qinghuai wanted to help, but Lin Ying refused. She wanted the children to know that as members of the family, they should work together.

October in Northeast China is already quite cold, so the car's underfloor heating was left on. In such a small space, and with everyone crammed together, it was surprisingly warm. You didn't even need to wear heavy clothes inside.

Fortunately, it hadn't snowed along the way, so the roads weren't slippery. Aside from many people being curious about what the car looked like, the return trip was quite smooth.

Even though it had only been a month since she left, Lin Ying felt as if it were a lifetime ago.

After cleaning with the children, I finally felt like I was back home.

After resting for only two days at home, Lin Ying and Zhao Qinghuai got busy again, because she hadn't collected any food.

Now that Zhao Qinghuai had space, he naturally wanted to store all sorts of things in it. Lin Ying needed to see her child in the morning, and since the clinic hadn't opened for so long, everyone in the village had asked about it several times. So Lin Ying decided to open the small clinic first.

Lin Ying was busy at the small clinic in the morning, while Zhao Qinghuai went up the mountain. In the afternoon, the whole family was mobilized.

Lin Ying's little trolley continued to pull the children up and down the mountain.

Nowadays, apart from cooking, we don't use firewood much at home, so we don't need to collect large amounts of firewood like before.

If there was anything special about the family, it was that Shan Yubang came to visit.

"I guess you're home soon. How many days have you been back?"

When Shan Yubang arrived, Zhao Qinghuai wasn't home; Haoyu was at school. With the three children at home, Lin Ying simply gave each of them a piece of paper and a pen and taught them to write. She also treated patients at the clinic.

There were no patients at the clinic when Shanyubang arrived.

"I've been back for a few days. Look, the firewood and everything's all packed up. Commander Shan, is there anything I can do for you today? Qinghuai will be back in a little while. Why don't you wait a bit?"

As she spoke, Lin Ying poured Shan Yubang a cup of herbal tea: "It's to dispel cold and prevent colds."

Shan Yubang accepted the cup without ceremony: "I came to see you. Well, I know you're not short of money. The army is just passing through your area on a telephone line project. Do you want to consider getting a phone installed at home?"

Lin Ying knew that the border line was very long, and that there were other troops stationed further west. So it was normal for her to pass through, but the distance was not short.

"It depends on how much it costs. If it's too expensive, you might as well buy a telegraph machine from you."

Shanyubang choked: "That would be so inconvenient. Don't worry, installing a telephone isn't expensive; the army will subsidize it for you. It should only cost a little over a thousand. We'll have someone set up a dedicated line for you. It'll be so convenient; if anything happens in the future, you can just make a call."

When Lin Ying heard that it was only a little over a thousand, she was indeed tempted, as her family had more than enough money.

"In that case, I'll trouble you, Commander Shan. Shall I pay you now, or after the installation is complete?"

Shan Yubang immediately said, "You can give it to the installation staff later, and they will issue you the invoice. Since you agree, it's settled then."

After finishing the phone call, Shan Yubang said, "By the way, Comrade Lin Ying, there's something I need to tell you."

Lin Ying was a little confused. Did Zhao Qinghuai need to do some special mission again, and she needed to be mentally prepared?

Shan Yubang didn't keep them in suspense and said directly, "According to our investigation, we found that Comrade Lin Huaiyu knew nothing about that matter. He was also tricked into going to that place. So we have already sent him back."

Lin Ying was taken aback upon hearing this: "You don't need to tell me about his affairs. He had nothing to do with me since before I married Qinghuai." Although she said this, Lin Ying did not mention that Lin Huaiyu actually knew about the Lin family's secret treasure.

Lin Ying's grandfather had once told Lin Huaiyu this as a joke, but he hadn't taken it seriously. He only mentioned it himself after seeing Lin Huaiyu last time. As for why he changed his story and said he didn't know, Lin Ying guessed that Zhao Qinghuai might have said something to him.

It's not a big deal that he said he didn't know, since he genuinely didn't know how to get inside.

Despite saying that, Lin Ying still said, "In fact, if I hadn't had the chance to obtain those books and the familiar medical records, I wouldn't have been able to match them with the Lin family. It was only after going there and seeing the murals on the wall that I was able to confirm that it was the place where the Lin family's ancestors once lived."
