Chapter 35 Medical Books and Ancient Texts

Lin Ying turned around and saw the old man waving at her, beckoning her to come over.

Lin Ying walked over and saw the old man whispering, "If you don't mind, you can go to the scrap metal recycling station. They've been cracking down on houses a lot these past two years, and there's a lot of stuff piled up there. I've seen some quilts and stuff that are pretty good. If all else fails, you can go there and look around. The stuff is good and you don't need any coupons."

Lin Ying's eyes lit up, and she quickly wrote, "Is it possible? Can I sell the things over there to individuals?"

The old man waved his hand: "Ordinary people definitely can't do it. Here's what I'll do: I'll write you a note. You can go over and hand the note to the gatekeeper, and that'll be fine. Quilts and such are considered household waste, so I can still write this note. As long as it's not industrial waste, it's fine."

Lin Ying quickly bowed to express her gratitude to the old man. Seeing Lin Ying's humble attitude, she originally only wrote down two quilts, but directly wrote down a list of ten quilts.

"You don't have anything, do you? When the time comes, just pick out the best ones, ten thick ones, take them apart and wash them, you can even make yourself a cotton-padded coat or something. Don't be picky, the weather's getting cold soon, let's not worry about those things, we'll talk about it after winter!"

Lin Ying quickly wrote: "How could that be? I'm overjoyed. You saved my life. Otherwise, I really wouldn't know what to do."

Lin Ying was truly grateful to the old man, because neither the Friendship Store nor the black market was a good choice. She knew that if she touched the money her grandfather had saved for her, the consequences would be dire. The black market was also fraught with danger; she wouldn't want to go to either place unless absolutely necessary.

Of course, she knew she wouldn't freeze to death; Zhao Qinghuai would definitely find a way. Plus, there were the furs at home, and if all else failed, she could go hunting in the mountains; she could always get through the winter.

However, she probably wouldn't even be able to take care of herself, let alone give anything to her grandfather.

So Lin Ying was right, the old man really did save her life.

Thinking of something, Lin Ying took off the silver lock she was wearing around her neck and was about to put it on the child.

Bao Youxue hurriedly declined, saying, "No way! You're my grandson's savior. It's nothing for me to help out with a little bit."

Seeing the old man's determination, Lin Ying wrote on the paper: "The silver lock is worthless, but what's valuable is the pill inside, which can save a life in a critical moment. My grandfather gave it to me when I was a child. Now I'm passing it on to my child."

The old man was even more unwilling: "We absolutely cannot accept something so good. I've already said it's just a small favor, why would you do this?"

Lin Ying wrote with a smile: "The value of the pills lies in the medicinal materials. I have these materials now, and I can make more in the future, so don't worry!"

Bao Youxue knew that some people were incredibly capable. He was able to become the director of this supply and marketing cooperative because he was assigned this job after retiring from the military. Back in the army, he had heard of a miracle doctor who could save a life with a single pill.

Although he didn't know if this pill was the same as that one, Bao Youxue thought that perhaps skilled traditional Chinese medicine practitioners could also make this.

After saying goodbye to the old man and the young girl, Lin Ying went to the scrap metal recycling station as the old man had indicated.

In the words of the old man, there are fewer people at this time, so no one will cause trouble.

When Lin Ying handed the note the old man had given her to the gatekeeper, the gatekeeper glanced at it, then looked at Lin Ying again: "Since Director Bao sent you, then you can go in. Go in, turn left, and walk straight ahead. There's a shed over there; you can choose whatever you want. Don't look at or touch anything else. It's all dangerous stuff! You're lucky; these things will be moved out by tomorrow at the latest."

Lin Ying didn't know where the goods were shipped to, nor would she ask.

Lin Ying nodded and walked inside.

The division is clear: household waste is on the left, and industrial waste is on the right. Lin Ying had previously heard from the older woman that hers was household waste, so she turned left.

On the way, Lin Ying saw piles of furniture lying around, some made of mahogany, some of sandalwood, and even a set of golden nanmu. Fortunately, Lin Ying wasn't the type to be stingy, otherwise she probably wouldn't have been able to walk away when she saw these things.

These were already eye-catching enough, but who knew there were even more treasures inside: calligraphy and paintings, all sorts of antiques, and she even saw silver and gold ingots.

Lin Ying couldn't help but feel sorry. Not to mention calligraphy, paintings, and books, these would also suffer from literary inquisitions, book burning, and burying scholars alive again, but gold and silver were truly the most severely degraded ever.

Lin Ying hates trouble the most right now, so she only glanced at it and walked away.

But halfway there, Lin Ying's legs suddenly gave way, and she couldn't move anymore because she saw an ancient medical book lying on the ground. Almost reflexively, Lin Ying walked over, squatted down, and began to read it.

At that moment, she didn't consider the consequences or the impact. She knew she couldn't take the book with her, so she wanted to read as much as possible.

Lin Ying was unaware that her every move was being watched by the gatekeeper.

With such a large purchasing station and only the old man there, he naturally had a solution. He distributed a mirror at the corner and placed mirrors in each area as well.

With his old eyesight, he could see everything you did there.

However, because Lin Ying flipped through the book so quickly, she just flipped through it and put it back in its original place after reading it. The old man just thought she was just curious and didn't pay any attention to it.

So, after seeing Lin Ying walk past those treasures without even glancing at them, but casually flipping through the pile of books, he closed his eyes and stopped looking. Stealing is illegal, but what law is illegal for stealing knowledge? Besides, she didn't steal anything; she was just casually flipping through.

Lin Ying found many ancient medical books among this large pile of books. She didn't read many of the ones she had memorized, but she focused on the ones she hadn't read before, especially the pulse diagnosis records.

This is the lifeblood of every traditional Chinese medicine practitioner. Looking at so many pulse records, Lin Ying couldn't help but feel heartbroken. Although her grandfather lost his clinic, he also protected it in a way.

She was involved with her grandfather and the clinic, which in turn was involved with capitalists. The final result might be the same as these medical books and ancient texts being thrown away at the recycling station.

Lin Ying also had to admit that even if her father treated her badly, he had risked his life to get the clinic, and he would definitely cherish the hard-won clinic.

Lin Ying shook her head and quickly selected the valuable content to read.

She was so engrossed in looking that she forgot the time. It was only after the old caretaker came over to remind her that she hurriedly put down her books and headed toward the large pile of bedding.

Knowing she couldn't stay too long, Lin Ying didn't pay much attention and only chose ten clean-looking quilts. Since it was too many, she went to the gatekeeper and bought a large sack to pack them up.

The old man watched her get dressed, and only let her leave after he was sure there weren't many people.
