Chapter 39 There is grain at home

The pitter-patter of rain outside woke Lin Ying. She opened her eyes and realized that it was already daytime, but it was still raining outside.

After Lin Ying got up, she went outside and found it was indeed a bit cold. She didn't have any warm clothes, so she thought about it and decided to make herself a thick coat since she had some free time today.

Once the stove in the house was lit, the room temperature began to rise, and Lin Ying no longer felt that cold.

After breakfast, Lin Ying got busy again. Since she didn't know her grandfather's clothing size, she could only make rough estimates. She couldn't ask Zhang Shanlin, who was about the same size as her grandfather, what kind of clothes he wore, because that would make people think that she had a private relationship with her grandfather, which wouldn't be good for him.

Therefore, Lin Ying tried to make the clothes a little bigger so that if her grandfather didn't like them, she could just adjust the position of the buttons.

Fortunately, I still have some buttons left from when I bought them for making clothes, so I have enough.

Lin Ying made two cotton-padded jackets for her grandfather, one thin and one thick. One jacket was made to fit him perfectly, while the other was made to be oversized. The vest was made entirely of rabbit fur and stuffed with pheasant down.

I also used the remaining rabbit fur to make two pairs of socks.

However, Lin Ying encountered another difficulty when making cotton pants, because the ones she tried to make were not only bulky but also uneven, and they didn't look comfortable no matter how she looked at them.

So, Lin Ying took the pastries and other things and went to Li Yue'e's house.

Because it was raining, Li Yue'e happened to be at home, but she didn't stay idle; instead, she chopped firewood in her room.

Seeing Lin Ying arrive, Li Yue'e put down the axe in her hand: "What brings you to my house, sister?"

Lin Ying said embarrassedly, "I need your help, sister-in-law. I'm trying to make winter clothes for myself at home while it's raining. I can figure out the top by myself, but the pants just don't seem to fit no matter how I make them."

Li Yue'e laughed and said, "Oh, what am I talking about? Making pants is simple. You'll know how as soon as I tell you."

Under Li Yue'e's guidance, Lin Ying finally finished making a pair of cotton trousers.

It was already dark when Lin Ying got back, so she had to postpone making cotton-padded trousers for her grandfather until tomorrow.

Finally, after three days, Lin Ying finished making the gift for her grandfather. She would give it to Zhao Qinghuai when he returned. She believed that Zhao Qinghuai would definitely find a way to deliver the gift to her grandfather.

With one major task on her mind completed, Lin Ying finally had the energy to continue researching that space.

Although this space doesn't seem as nice as Lin Rong's, after all, Lin Rong's has a spiritual spring. But this place only has a well.

But thinking about the wonderful uses of the spiritual spring in Lin Rong's space, Lin Ying wanted to try it out and see what the difference was between the two spaces.

Lin Ying didn't drink it herself. She remembered that Lin Rong had used the spiritual spring to grow crops in her space, and the crops had grown very well. So, she also drew a bucket of water from the well, went to the herb field, and tried sprinkling some in the field, and also planted a corn kernel there.

According to the speed of Lin Rong's space, crops will generally mature in about a month, while fruits and the like will take two or even three months.

However, Lin Ying didn't expect that just as she was about to turn around, she saw that the spot where the well water had been sprinkled suddenly started to grow wildly, and even the corn stalk was growing taller and taller right before her eyes, but it didn't grow any corn. It just withered away.

Lin Ying slapped her forehead. Corn needs pollination. Corn is a monoecious plant with separate male and female flowers. The male flowers open before the female flowers. After the male flowers open, they release a large amount of pollen. The pollen is spread to the stigma of the female flowers by the wind, completing the pollination process.

Because the growth was too fast, the corn didn't get pollinated and naturally didn't grow into ears.

With that in mind, Lin Ying planted a few more corn stalks, and this time she took the opportunity to hand-pollinate them. Soon, Lin Ying harvested several ears of corn. These ears were noticeably larger than the ones she had planted.

Thinking of her amazing appetite, Lin Ying looked at the corn in her hand and was instantly filled with fighting spirit!

The medicinal herb garden that she had initially looked down upon was tidied up in half a day. After harvesting the herbs and weeding, Lin Ying planted the little wheat she had left and watered it. Then she harvested it and carried it to the small courtyard in her space to dry.

Then they hoeed the ground and planted more crops.

For several days in a row, Lin Ying didn't go out. She spent all her time rummaging through food in her space. It was a pity that she didn't have any rice at home, and she bought hulled rice directly. Otherwise, Lin Ying would definitely have grown some rice.

Lin Ying discovered that the space could be sunny or rainy, so she packed all the harvested grain into sacks and stored it in the thatched hut.

As the saying goes, "With grain at home, one has nothing to fear." Looking at the several bags of grain in her storage space, Lin Ying did feel much more at ease.

However, she couldn't neglect the things she had originally planned to do; otherwise, she wouldn't be able to explain to outsiders where her food came from.

So for the next few days, Lin Ying went up the mountain again to hunt and gather various ingredients. As for the miraculous effects of the spiritual spring in Lin Rong's space, Lin Ying didn't plan to try it for the time being. She wasn't worried about the effects being bad, but rather that if the effects were too good, they might cure her poison and cause unnecessary trouble.

When Lin Ying returned from the mountain, she didn't forget to carry the tree back with her.

Seeing Lin Ying carrying another tree, Li Yue'e couldn't help but laugh at her: "What's wrong, girl? Are you addicted to watching trees being cut down? Why are you carrying them home every day?"

Lin Ying smiled and explained, "We're missing a box at home. The trees we used to have were all cut down and turned into obstacles, so they're unusable now."

Li Yue'e couldn't help but exclaim in amazement, "I've never admired anyone, except you, sister. Your strength is truly enviable." Then, Li Yue'e suddenly thought of something:

"By the way, girl, tomorrow's the day we're going to town. Do you want to come with me?"

Lin Ying thought about what was in the house and nodded: "Go! When my sister-in-law calls me, we'll go together."

Li Yue'e smiled and replied, "Okay!"

The next day, around 7 a.m., Li Yue'e called Lin Ying from outside, and Lin Ying took her things and went out.

The clothes she's wearing now are handmade by herself, made from leftover fabric from making clothes for her grandfather. Because she made thick clothes back then, she didn't have any fabric left to make a cotton-padded jacket for herself, so Lin Ying plans to go and buy some fabric this time to make two sets of outerwear for herself, and also to make herself a decent cotton-padded coat.

After Li Yue'e repeatedly told the two children to behave well at home and not cause trouble, the two walked together toward the gate of the compound.

There were already a few people waiting there. Because of the last time Lin Ying's family hosted a dinner party, and because several of her sisters-in-law had helped out at Lin Ying's house before, Lin Ying wasn't ignored anymore; a few people would greet her with a smile.

After that, more and more people gathered at the village entrance. Cheng Jiaojiao was among them, as was Su Yun, who seemed to be in better spirits.

Lin Ying didn't speak to them, pretending not to see them.

Around eight o'clock, the transport team's truck finally arrived at the gate of the compound, and everyone helped each other get on the truck. Lin Ying had just found a seat, put down the stool she had brought, and looked up when she saw Cheng Jiaojiao give her a proud look before sitting in the passenger seat of the truck.

Lin Ying's lips twitched, not understanding where her sense of superiority came from.
