Perhaps because Lin Ying had brought Master Amu meat sauce at lunchtime, Master Amu taught her more attentively in the afternoon.
After a day, Lin Ying finally realized the difference between herself and a proper carpenter.
I'm also very glad that I was able to learn something this time.
Master Amu said she could start making the dragon-bone waterwheel tomorrow. On her way back to the dormitory, Lin Ying's mind was filled with thoughts about the blueprints for the dragon-bone waterwheel.
Because she was so focused, Lin Ying didn't notice that several women next to her were looking in her direction.
Lin Ying came to the school on a mission, and she didn't like interacting with people. Even when she saw people over there, she didn't greet them but went straight back to her room.
Lin Ying collected sawdust from the farm and built a stove for herself at the door when she returned at noon.
After Lin Ying arrived, she asked around and found out that everyone ate in the cafeteria, but her food ration wasn't there, and since she had a big appetite, the cafeteria staff might not be happy if she ate there. It would be better for her to cook for herself.
Fortunately, she had her own clay pot in her space, and she also got a wooden bucket and a wooden basin from Master Amu.
Lin Ying is used to taking a shower every day, even in winter. It's just that because of the conditions here, she can only wash herself in her room.
In addition, Lin Ying did not bring a thermos, so she could only use the clay pot to boil water.
Lin Ying boiled a pot of water in a clay pot and carried it into the room. She locked the door from the inside and went into her spatial dimension. Lin Ying hadn't usually thought about setting up a bathing area in her space, but now that it was inconvenient, she had.
However, she can't do it right now; she'll have to wait until she has some free time.
After taking a shower and changing her clothes, Lin Ying came out of the space, not forgetting to pour out the dirty water in the basin, otherwise, she wouldn't be able to explain it to others.
After that, Lin Ying started living again. She greased the clay pot, put in the washed rice, poked a few holes in it, then added ham, soaked shiitake mushrooms, carrots, and meat sauce. After filling it with water, she placed it on the stove.
Soon, the aroma of the dry pot rice wafted out, making the girls next door a little restless.
Lin Ying was tending the fire while washing her change of clothes.
She didn't bring many clothes, and she could dry them by the fire after washing them. They should be dry by tomorrow afternoon.
While she was busy, she saw several pairs of feet wearing liberation shoes in front of her.
Lin Ying looked up and saw several people wearing green military uniforms and red heart-shaped hats, some with short hair and others with braids tied at the back.
The outfit is clearly very contemporary.
However, perhaps because of a busy day, they were a little dirty and tired.
Lin Ying stood up and looked at them, asking, "Is there anything I can help you with?"
Several girls greeted her warmly: "Hello, we're from the same company, we live next door to you. Are you a new comrade who just arrived today?"
Lin Ying's hands were wet and foamy, so she didn't shake hands with anyone.
"No, I'm here to study. I'll be leaving soon."
The others breathed a sigh of relief, and their smiles became more genuine. The long-haired girl said, "You're really pretty. Are you from the performing arts troupe?"
Others echoed his sentiments.
Lin Ying smiled and shook her head: "No, I'm not a soldier. I came here to learn carpentry from Master Amu."
After Lin Ying finished speaking, the group's attitude towards her noticeably cooled. None of them wanted to talk to her anymore, and they left under the pretext of washing up.
Lin Ying didn't mind; she had many things to do and no time to chat with them.
Because of the two-minute delay, Lin Ying hadn't finished washing her clothes, but the food in the pot was almost ready. She hurriedly poured in the prepared sauce, then used leaves to lift the pot off the stove, letting it simmer for a while longer using the residual heat of the clay pot.
Lin Ying washed the clothes and built a rack with wooden sticks next to the stove to hang them out to dry.
Afterwards, she carried the casserole back to her room.
The girls went to the cafeteria together shortly after returning home. They talked about Lin Ying the whole way.
"Didn't you see? There's rice in that pot."
"Not only that, I can smell meat in it, there must be a lot of meat inside."
"She's eating really well."
"Sigh, I'm so envious."
"This person must be the child of a government official."
Everyone looked at the long-haired girl with curiosity. The long-haired girl said, "Didn't you see? She's wearing a watch made in Shanghai. Her clothes don't have a single patch. And her hands don't have a single callus. Who else but the children of officers could be here to study at the military region?"
Another older woman said, "No, she's not a young lady."
This woman was among the first batch of educated youth sent to the countryside. She's been here for a long time and even married someone from this area. The army allocated them housing, and sometimes they would stay in the dormitories when they were tired. Today, she happened to be staying in one of the dormitories as well.
Upon hearing that she wasn't a young woman, the women almost instinctively began to think badly of Lin Ying.
"What bad luck."
"No, if she had such bad conduct, why wasn't she paraded through the streets?"
"What else could it be? They have connections."
It's also because Lin Ying is too young. It's not wartime now, so there aren't many young, unmarried officers. Even in the military compound where Lin Ying lives, apart from Cheng Jiaojiao, Lin Ying is the youngest.
Of course, it's not impossible, but they hadn't heard of any officer getting married recently, so they hadn't thought of it.
