Chapter 99 Cool Mat

As soon as Lin Ying spoke, someone recognized her.

"Oh my, isn't this Comrade Lin from the commune?"

Someone reminded everyone, and they all remembered. After Lin Ying lost weight, she was temporarily pulled into the commune to work as a purchasing agent, so many people knew her.

"I'm not a commune employee; the commune director asked me to help out temporarily."

Hearing Lin Ying say this, the older women couldn't help but say, "So that's how it is. I knew it! We never saw Comrade Lin."

"That's right. We were saying before that we all hoped to run into Comrade Xiaolin when we went there, so that everyone would have to wait in line for a lot less time."

"To be honest, Comrade Xiao Lin is really amazing. Not only is he quick at calculating, but he has never made a mistake."

Uncle Wu had stopped talking to Lin Ying when he heard her exchanging pleasantries with the others.

After exchanging a few words, Uncle Wu guessed, "That's enough chatting. Jia Zhen is waiting at home. I'll take Comrade Lin Ying back first."

After he finished speaking, the carriage started moving again.

As the carriage entered the village, mud houses lined both sides. Brick and tile houses were rarely seen. Only after walking a few more steps could one find a few scattered brick and tile houses.

"Girl, can I pull the carriage to the stable first, and then walk a few steps to my house?"

"Sure, it's just a few steps."

The carriage drove all the way to the back of the village. Apart from a house about 200 meters ahead, the surrounding area consisted of barren mountains and farmland.

Sure enough, the carriage headed towards that place.

As soon as the carriage arrived at the stable, the two men who were pulling weeds stood up: "Old Wu, why are you back so early today?"

He then went over to take the rope from Uncle Wu's hand and began unloading the carriage.

"There's no money to sell them there. I happened to have nothing to do today, so I brought this girl back to show her around and familiarize her with the area."

Upon seeing this, the group's faces lit up with smiles: "Comrade Lin Ying? Oh, what brings you here? Old Wu, you must take good care of Comrade Lin Ying."

Uncle Wu said in a serious tone, "Do you even need to tell me? We'll slaughter the chickens at home today. We have to go back first, otherwise it won't be good if Jia Zhen cooks. We're leaving now, you guys go ahead with your business."

"Let's go, we don't need you here."

After greeting everyone with a smile, Lin Ying's eyes turned to several elderly people who looked very haggard.

Uncle Wu knew what Lin Ying was looking at, but these people had special identities, and he didn't want Lin Ying to get into trouble: "Let's go, girl, is the basket heavy? Or should I carry it?"

Lin Ying snapped out of her daze: "No need, Uncle, I'm strong. Let's go."

Apart from the stable, there was no one else around. Uncle Wu said, "Those were all sent down to the village. We common folk don't understand any ideology. We're just glad we can fill our stomachs. We can't care about anything else."

Lin Ying smiled and said, "Uncle, I understand."

Neither of them discussed anything about those people; they chatted as they arrived at Uncle Wu's house.

The houses in Uncle Wu's village are similar to those in his family compound: thatched huts and fenced yards.

The neighbors can all see each other.

As soon as Uncle Wu entered the door, he said, "Jiazhen, we have guests. Could you arrange for us to cook a few dishes?"

Uncle Wu's shout cleared the surrounding gazes considerably.

In fact, the villagers' thinking is not simple and honest; there are some dirty things happening there as well.

However, these things will be talked about by everyone, but they won't be spread.

Therefore, when people see Uncle Wu returning with a young woman, they instinctively think the worst. But once they know someone is home at Uncle Wu's house, they realize they're overthinking it.

Soon, a woman in her forties came out. She looked very energetic, with bright eyes. She seemed to have a lot of vitality about her.

"Who's here?"

Uncle Wu chuckled and led Lin Ying over: "Didn't I tell you before about Comrade Lin Ying, who helped our village sell a lot of straw mats? We just happened to run into her today, so we had her come over to our house to get acquainted with us."

Upon hearing this, Yang Jiazhen immediately smiled, her face becoming even more enthusiastic: "Oh, it's Comrade Lin Ying! Come in, come in and have a seat."

As he spoke, he pulled Lin Ying into the house.

Uncle Wu was worried that Lin Ying wouldn't be able to handle his wife's enthusiasm, so he explained to her, "Your aunt is the village's women's director, she's used to being like this. Don't mind her."

Lin Ying smiled and said, "No, it looks very familiar. I like my aunt."

Yang Jiazhen laughed even harder upon hearing this: "This girl speaks even more directly than we do, but I like her too! Hahaha."

Uncle Wu wanted to smoke his pipe, but refrained because there were guests present: "Go and kill the chicken at home, and cook some good dishes for lunch."

Upon hearing this, Lin Ying immediately said, "No, Uncle, Aunt, I already bought meat, why would I kill a chicken? Besides, our area is close to the mountains, and I often go up the mountain for a treat. We've eaten plenty of wild chickens and rabbits. Please let that chicken go."

Yang Jiazhen looked at her husband: "This?"

Uncle Wu saw that Lin Ying didn't want to lie: "Alright, since this girl said so, then we'll take advantage of her today."

They also knew that Lin Ying was a military wife and received meat every month.

Yang Jiazhen took the meat Lin Ying gave her and went outside. Lin Ying said, "Uncle, where is the place where you make straw mats? Can you take me there?"

Uncle Wu had actually been thinking about this for a while, but he was worried that he was overthinking it. He feared the other person didn't actually mean it that way.

Hearing Lin Ying say this, she immediately said happily, "They all take them back to make their own. My family has some too, it's over there in the shed. I'll take you there."
