"Put me down!" Zhou Yun's eyes reddened with anger, and she gritted her teeth in frustration.
She could only stand stiffly, afraid to move, and the soft flesh of her waist felt so cold that goosebumps rose the moment it touched the air.
Despite the heat radiating from his body, Song Heng helped her straighten her down jacket. The moment his cool fingertips touched her waist, he recoiled as if electrocuted.
"Cough, cough, that's enough. Wear more next time." Song Heng turned his head away, his ears slightly red. He hadn't expected that this girl wasn't wearing anything under her down jacket in the dead of winter.
He gently laid her down; fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead due to the effects of the medication. "You can go now; I'll rest here for a while."
Zhou Yun looked around at the empty stairwell. "Are you sure you want to rest here?"
"Never mind, he was drugged because of her," Zhou Yun sighed, took Song Heng's hand, and walked out.
The door was just opened a crack when footsteps were heard behind me, followed by a familiar voice.
Zhou Yun paused, her hand gripping the door. It was Ji Chu.
Going out now would inevitably lead to running into the other person. Forget it, Zhou Yun let go of his hand, and the door closed again.
She didn't want him to keep lecturing her about life.
Song Heng stared at her holding his hand, and couldn't help but smile.
As she opened the door, he also heard Ji Chu's voice. Watching the girl close the door, a dark glint flashed in Song Heng's eyes.
He looked down at her; they were very close, close enough that he could see her slightly upturned eyelashes trembling.
Ji Chu was outside the door.
After parting ways with Zhou Yun, I went to the bathroom and splashed my face with cold water, which has reduced the effects of the alcohol considerably.
“Investigate the Zhou family’s overseas business dealings over the past few years, and,” Ji Chu paused, “also, whether Zhou Jin has been involved in those businesses of the Zhou family.”
Without knowing what the person on the other end of the phone said, Ji Chu quickly hung up.
Then his voice rang out again, "Mengmeng, where was Xiaoyun when she drugged me in the capital that night?"
Just as Ji Meng was about to catch up on her sleep, she was interrupted by Ji Chu's phone call. His tone was somewhat irritated, "What do you mean, 'where is she'? What does it have to do with you where she is?"
The man's face turned cold as he asked in a deep voice, "What exactly happened?"
"Ji Chu, I'm not trying to be mean, but you disturbed my peaceful sleep in broad daylight, and now you're threatening me? Have you lost your mind?!"
Ji Meng jumped out of bed and started cursing. Because she moved so fast, she also kicked Zhao Zhilin next to her.
Ji Meng was about to start cursing again, but then she seemed to remember something and deliberately said, "Speaking of that night in the capital, when I called Sister Yun, I thought I heard a man's voice next to me... but it wasn't very clear, since it was already past midnight, there couldn't have been a man next to Sister Yun."
Ji Chu asked, her tone accusatory, "Who exactly is that man?!"
"I'm not really sure, but when I picked her up the next day, her body, tsk tsk tsk, was covered in red and purple bruises..."
"Ji Meng!" Ji Chu roared, his eyes bloodshot.
"Ji Chu! You'd better find out why Zhou Yun was at that banquet that night. Go ahead and investigate. What are you pretending to be so affectionate with now, questioning me about who she slept with?"
"If I were you, I wouldn't force a woman who loves you wholeheartedly to make sacrifices for that idiot, unrequited love of yours!"
"Smack!"
Before Ji Chu could speak again, Ji Meng angrily hung up the phone.
Still angry after hanging up the phone, Ji Meng paced back and forth in the room, clutching her hair.
"Alright, go take a shower first." Before Ji Meng could react, Zhao Zhilin picked her up in one go.
Ji Chu, on the other end of the phone, had a gloomy look in his eyes, and in the end, he could only let his hands hang limply at his sides.
Inside the door, Zhou Yun's expression was somewhat unpleasant.
There was no one in the corridor to begin with, but Ji Meng's loud shouting came from the other end of the phone, and both she and Song Heng heard what she was saying.
This is... hard to judge.
On the one hand, she didn't know what the point of Ji Chu doing this was; on the other hand, the two people involved that night were now eavesdropping behind the door as if they were having an affair.
Song Heng interpreted Zhou Yun's lowered eyes and thoughtful expression as a sign that she still felt reluctant to part with Ji Chu.
"Are you afraid he'll see you if you don't go out?" Song Heng asked in a low voice.
Was she afraid that Ji Chu would see them together?
He was very close to her, so close that Zhou Yun could feel his hot chest, which made her feel a little hot.
Seeing that Zhou Yun didn't speak, Song Heng smiled, his voice somewhat bitter, "You can go out first. I'll stay here for a while. The bodyguards will come to pick me up in a bit."
Zhou Yun pursed her lips. She didn't still have feelings for Ji Chu; she had loved this man and hated him. But her subconscious avoidance stemmed from the complex emotions she had once felt for him.
Even though they are no longer in a relationship and she no longer feels anything for him, she will still avoid him.
This kind of thing needs time to fade, until the memory is no longer so vivid, before she can face him with equanimity.
"I don't want you to feel sorry for him." Song Heng's dark eyes surged.
He can't let go anymore.
She wanted to avoid Ji Chu, but he wouldn't let her.
After saying that, he reached out and pushed the door open.
"No!" Zhou Yun grabbed his wrist and growled. Her heart skipped a beat at his sudden action.
"Hmm? Are you afraid he'll see us together?"
The two spoke in hushed tones. He really wanted Ji Chu to know that he wouldn't use this trick, but this little woman was easily frightened.
"No!" came the reply quickly.
"Oh? Why is that?" Song Heng raised an eyebrow, his tone playful.
Zhou Yun looked up and said, "Keeping quiet when necessary is a virtue."
Song Heng nodded, seemingly understanding, "OK, then I can..."
Zhou Yun shuddered and quickly tiptoed to cover his mouth.
Her palms were soft, just like her personality.
Seeing that she was so frightened that she looked like a quail, Song Heng's smile deepened.
She has a soft heart and is easily teased.
Zhou Yun glared at him fiercely, "Say another word, and I'll lock you up here. Let's see who comes to rescue you!"
Song Heng chuckled, leaning casually against the wall in an extremely languid posture. "You were terrified just now, and now you're threatening me?"
Zhou Yun, "Then why did you drink for me?"
"Um?"
If he were the kind of person who holds grudges, she wouldn't have spent so much time arguing with him in the empty stairwell.
Song Heng looked at her, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes, but it was instantly replaced by a smile. "So you're going to give me a 'good person award'?"
Seeing the veins on his forehead becoming more prominent, Zhou Yun was too lazy to banter with him anymore. "Aren't you feeling any better?"
Song Heng: "I feel uncomfortable."
The dosage wasn't large, but it was still effective. Although the problem wasn't serious, it was painfully bloated.
Ji Chu was still making a phone call outside the door, so going out now was even more impossible.
Seeing the fine beads of sweat on Song Heng's forehead, Zhou Yun took out a tissue from her bag and carefully wiped them away for him.
Feeling the girl's gentle touch, Song Heng stiffened, opened his closed eyes, and met her gaze.
Zhou Yun turned her face away to avoid his gaze, her hand wiping away sweat gently and earnestly.
"I'm sorry," her gentle voice rang out.
