Chapter 56
"Where have you been?" Qu Xing asked slowly.
Ling Yin was pinned down on the sofa in his own room, with Qu Xing riding on him, but he had no time to let his imagination run wild, staring at Qu Xing in amazement.
"Where did the blood come from?" Qu Xing pinched Ling Yin's face tightly with one hand, his brow furrowed, his pupils trembling, his expression filled with the same sadness he had shown in the desert some time ago. "Who did you go see?"
The force on his cheek was getting tighter and tighter. Ling Yin couldn't bear to let him get angry, so he quickly held Qu Xing's hand, took it away and kissed it, "Don't be angry, baby, I said."
He pulled the man closer, looked into his eyes, and said gently, "But calm down first."
Qu Xing looked at him deeply for a moment, then lowered his head and kissed his eyelashes, saying, "Okay."
"I went to see that..." Ling Yin looked at him and said slowly, "Cun Ziying."
Even though he had been turning this name over in his mind all day, Qu Xing's heart still stopped suddenly when he heard it clearly from Ling Yin's mouth.
Ling Yin stroked his back again and again: "She found my dad through her work relationship and said she wanted to see me."
Qu Xing: "Why do I want to see you?"
Ling Yin looked at him: "She asked me what kind of person Xingxing is now."
Ling Yin saw Qu Xing's eyes drop, and he seemed to relax a little. He whispered, "And then?"
Ling Yin said: "Then I said it."
Qu Xing raised his hand and hooked it around his neck. The light couldn't illuminate his eyes, so he smiled softly: "What did you say?"
Ling Yin breathed in Qu Xingjin's warmth and said, "Just like your name."
Qu Xing tilted his head slightly: "That's it?"
"After hearing this answer, she stopped asking and turned to other topics." Ling Yin narrowed his eyes a little: "It's not that I don't want to tell you. If you want to hear me tell you now?"
"I won't listen, as long as you love me." Qu Xing slapped him: "What else did she say?"
Ling Yin: "She asked me if I was sad after my grandma passed away, and how I am doing now."
Qu Xing nodded, without asking Ling Yin's answer, and continued, "Anything else?"
"She said she hopes the world will protect you." Ling Yin looked into his eyes carefully: "And, I'm sorry..."
Qu Xing covered Ling Yin's mouth with his hand.
"Don't say it with your mouth." Qu Xing took a trembling breath and slowly buried her head in the crook of his neck: "She didn't do anything wrong to me... She was just a stranger."
Ling Yin hugged him.
"What else?" Qu Xing said in the crook of his neck.
Ling Yin: “No more.”
Qu Xing raised his head, tears welling in his eyes. "Just these two sentences, do I have to call you over specifically?"
Ling Yin chuckled: "That's right."
Qu Xing gritted his teeth and began to tremble for some reason.
Ling Yin was startled and hurriedly supported the person: "What...hiss——"
Qu Xing suddenly lowered his head and bit his collarbone hard.
She bit him hard once before relaxing her grip, yet seemed reluctant to let go. She nibbled down his neck, her fangs poking his earlobe. A drop of moisture dripped onto the crook of his neck. Qu Xing trembled, "You lied to me."
Ling Yin: "I didn't..."
He bit her hard on the side of her face. Qu Xing no longer wanted to listen to what he was saying, and just held her tightly, squeezing her so hard that her shoulder hurt.
Ling Yin ignored the pain in his body and gently hugged the slightly trembling person in his arms, coaxing: "Don't get excited, baby. I didn't lie to you."
The wetness on his shoulder didn't stop. Qu Xing whimpered softly and said viciously, "Hiding the truth is lying!"
Ling Yin tensed up, his heart aching from the broken voice. He bit her shoulder again.
"When did I tell you not to?" Qu Xing asked in a trembling voice, "Why don't you even play in the game? Why do you have to go?"
"There's blood." Qu Xing shuddered at the thought of the blood and could hardly speak: "Why... why is there blood... you lied to me."
"Don't lie to me," he hugged Ling Yin tightly, nibbling at the side of his neck, wanting to vent his anger but reluctant to bite too hard. Ling Yin felt a gentle sting in his neck. He held Qu Xing's waist, letting him bite, feeling warm tears dripping down his face. His voice trembled, almost pleading, "Don't lie to me... Why do you like to lie so much... I love you so much..."
Ling Yin felt extremely uncomfortable and heartbroken. He vaguely sensed that Qu Xing wasn't talking about him. Who else had lied to him? Why?
Yes, why should we lie to the stars when they love others so sincerely?
"Cun...your mother," Ling Yin carefully supported the person, "committed suicide a few days ago..."
The trembling of the person in front of him suddenly stopped. Ling Yin noticed that his whole body was stiff and said quickly, "He's fine now."
He gently stroked the man's back, trying to make him relax.
Qu Xing raised his face, his moist eyes filled with anxiety: "Did you meet in the hospital?"
"Yeah." Ling Yin raised his hand and gently rubbed the slightly red corners of his eyes.
Qu Xing: "That blood..."
"She finished talking to me and let me go," Ling Yin said gently, his blood running cold as he thought of what he had seen that afternoon. "I felt something was wrong, so I went back. I saw her... biting the wound on her wrist that hadn't healed yet. I tried to stop her and accidentally got some blood on her."
Qu Xing opened his eyes wide: "How is it now?"
Ling Yin: "Her family is with her."
“…”
Qu Xing's chest rose and fell slightly. Ling Yin, fearing he might faint from the shock, watched him nervously. When his breathing finally calmed, she leaned in for a kiss.
It seemed as if this lingering kiss was just telling him that even though you just tried to lie to me, I still love you. Then Qu Xing separated slightly, placed another kiss on the tip of his nose, and said quietly, "I said she was a stranger because I really don't remember what she looks like."
Ling Yin's eyes moved slightly, and he looked at him seriously.
Are you finally willing to say it?
Seeing his expression, Qu Xing smiled helplessly: "I'll tell you."
Ling Yin: “Yeah.”
Qu Xing: "From the moment I can remember, I lived in that house with my grandma. There was no Qu Hongfei, no Cun... Mom. For the first ten years or so, there was only my grandma. Other than that, the people closest to me were my childhood friend and his parents."
"Qu Hongfei, although he has our blood, is a foreigner. He and my mother were not married. I don't know what happened between us. Anyway, he is not my father legally. But every now and then, my grandmother would come over with her phone and ask me to say hello to Qu Hongfei."
Ling Yin: "Why?"
Qu Xing smiled. "I don't know either. Grandma told me a long time ago that it was Daddy, but she said it didn't matter whether I had a daddy or not. She also said Xingxing didn't need a daddy like everyone else. Every time before we video chat, she'd ask me to act it out. If I didn't, she'd be afraid Qu Hongfei would be upset... Now I realize how could someone like Qu Hongfei be upset by something like that?"
"Grandma never mentioned Mom." Qu Xing lowered his voice and said, "But I just found out not long ago that she has always been by my side, like a shadow."
Ling Yin asked gently, "When was it not long ago?"
"When grandma passed away, you guys were probably playing at MSI, right?" Qu Xing looked up at him. "I came back from abroad and stayed in that house by myself. I touched that bookshelf that grandma wouldn't let me touch... because she said her annual birthday presents were hidden in there, and she was afraid that if I looked inside, I wouldn't have the surprise."
"I've never touched it before. I didn't realize it at that time, so I just picked up a book and read it..."
Seeing Qu Xing take a deep breath, Ling Yin asked, "What's wrong?"
"That book is covered in blood." Qu Xing said, "It's... mine."
Ling Yin's hand around him suddenly tightened: "Yours?"
Qu Xing: "It should be... when I was very young. I don't know why she and Qu Hongfei had me, but she hated Qu Hongfei and me too. The house was originally hers, and later it belonged to grandma. During that time... she must have been in a bad mental state. She scribbled on those books, saying she would kill me and then commit suicide... She said she couldn't bear giving birth to Qu Hongfei's child, that I was disgusting, that I deserved to die, and that she would cover those books with my blood."
"She said she tried to strangle me, cut me, and slash me... but I don't think she slashed me."
Ling Yin hugged him tightly and heard Qu Xing finish the last sentence quietly: "Otherwise I wouldn't be able to see you and fall in love with you."
"There's a lot of nonsense there. Even though I know she probably wrote it down to vent when she was in the worst mental state, I still find it terrifying." Qu Xing rested her head on him and whispered, "I can't believe there's someone in the world who hates me to this extent. So I'm surprised when you say she just asked me what I looked like."
Ling Yin's kiss touched the corner of his eye, and Qu Xing closed his eyes. His embrace was so warm that he found he wasn't so scared anymore when he spoke. He said, "Later, she may have sobered up a little, so she handed me over to Grandma."
Ling Yin was puzzled. If she hated Qu Hongfei so much, why did she give the child to Qu Hongfei's mother? If her grandmother could raise someone like Xingxing, why did she raise her own son like that?
He was talking about a lie. Who was lying to him? What was it that lied to him? Why did he say it was the person he loved who lied to him? Was it just because his grandmother hid the bookshelf from him?
But Ling Yin was just confused in his heart and didn't ask. Telling so much was already difficult enough for his star.
He stroked the back of Qu Xing's head and said, "So you were in a bad mood during that time?"
Qu Xing shook his head slightly. "Even though she scared me, she was still just a stranger to me. It was mainly because of my grandmother. She taught me everything, but she never taught me how to accept her leaving." After a pause, Qu Xing said, "Leaving completely."
Ling Yin sighed deeply, his heart shattered into hundreds of pieces by his words. He couldn't believe all this had happened in the year the outside world was cheering him on like crazy. No wonder Xingxing wanted him to come sooner; he should have come sooner. At least he could have been there for him when he suddenly felt alone.
Qu Xing fell into his arms and repeated in a low voice: "Don't lie to me."
Ling Yin responded: "I'm not lying to you."
