Chapter 30
Qu Xing touched the old cabinet back and forth several times.
The light outside the study was dimly lit, so dim that it was almost invisible by the time it shone in. It was even darker in front of the bookcase. He groped slowly in the blinding light.
His mind was actually blank, and for a few moments he had no idea what he was looking for.
His brain, which usually works very fast in the game, seemed to be covered with a layer of fog at this moment. He forgot which row he started touching, and even suspected that he had touched the square where his hand was currently placed many times.
Finally, his arms fell down weakly, and his sigh quietly blended into the darkness.
The boy's back paused in front of the cabinet for a long time. Qu Xing lowered his eyes and stared into space, watching the darkness grow darker and thicker before he slowly blinked and turned on the light.
The switch was awkwardly placed, tucked away in a corner between two rows of large cabinets. When he was little, whenever he came into this room, his grandmother would ask him to crawl in and turn on the light. As he grew older, she couldn't get in anymore, so she would stretch out her arm to reach it. Then, as he grew taller, he turned on the light himself again.
Qu Xing found the corner, stretched out his arm and turned on the light.
The view of the study was instantly visible.
The decoration is very old-fashioned, everything is made of wood, every layer of the bookshelves and cabinets is filled with books, there are three chairs next to the huge wooden desk, a big wooden chair, a small wooden chair, and an out-of-place gaming chair, as well as two computers, one of which is very old and almost unusable, but no one has ever thought of throwing it away.
He has been playing games next to his grandmother since he was a child.
Looking at this room, which he hadn't examined carefully for nearly a year, Qu Xing blinked rapidly a few times and suddenly turned his back. His forehead rested against the bookshelf, motionless. After a long moment, Qu Xing slowly found a shelf and pulled out the embroidered book.
The first page reads: Star Diary
It's grandma's handwriting.
He'd already read the first half of the diary. Twenty pages, starting from the back, dedicated to him on his birthday. Grandma had written it when he was very young. He was only allowed to read one page a year, no more. Grandma always had to watch over him as he turned the pages, even though Qu Xing was a very disciplined child who didn't need her supervision.
Qu Xing turned the notebook over and rubbed the footer carefully. He stopped when he saw the number 19 and slowly opened the page.
Happy 19th birthday to grandma's little star.
Let me think about it—what will Xiaoxing look like when he's 19? Grandma once said Xiaoxing looks like he's 18. If he grows another year older, he'll already be a full year of adulthood. But Grandma doesn't want Xiaoxing to become an adult. Adults aren't real adults; they're just an act. Xiaoxing just needs to be healthy—he absolutely needs to be healthy. Don't neglect his body at all. He needs to smile as much as he does now—it's okay if he doesn't. Just be a cool little boy.
Grandma is looking forward to it. If 19-year-old Xiaoxing is not with her, she will definitely let her see what Xiaoxing looks like now.
The last line of the diary had small words written on it: The birthday present is in the highest box in the third column~
Qu Xing looked up and smiled silently. He was not afraid of it falling when he put it up so high.
He dragged over the small wooden chair he had sat on as a child and stepped on it to reach it. The space was already touching the ceiling, and he had to stand on tiptoe to step on the stool. He really didn't know how his grandmother had put it there.
Qu Xing reached behind the book and touched something that looked like a small box, and pulled it out with force.
Jumping down from the chair, he wiped himself with paper, sat down, and then solemnly opened the lid of the box.
There is a bracelet inside.
very beautiful.
Each bead looks different, blue, brown, dark red, dark green, black, colorful, and engraved with different patterns.
Qu Xing picked up the bracelet and examined it. He caught a whiff of woody fragrance, as if it were made by his grandmother. A small piece of silver sat between the beads, slightly darkened with age, adding to its rustic charm. It was intricately engraved with patterns, and there seemed to be words in the center. Qu Xing thought it was some kind of six-character motto, but upon closer inspection, he realized it was the word "happy." The carving was deliberately crooked, resembling scripture.
Qu Xing couldn't help laughing. This must have been done by grandma herself.
He put on the bracelet, closed the box, took a look at the old marks on the box, found a plastic bag, put it on, wrapped it carefully, and put the box back on the bookshelf.
After washing everything in the kitchen, Qu Xing made himself a bowl of noodles, which he ate while sitting cross-legged. He stared at the bowl for a moment, debating between washing it now and later, and decided to sit there for a while.
He sat cross-legged on the chair for half an hour before he slowly took the dishes to the kitchen to wash them.
Ling Yin did go back to training, since he had nothing else to do anyway. He was slightly taken aback when he saw Qu Xing online, and raised his hand to send him a private message.
Inhinl——Why are you online? Aren’t you at home celebrating your birthday?
njhduisnk——Just play
Inhinl——How is it? Are you having a good time?
Qu Xing supported his chin in thought, glanced at Ling Yin's question, quickly typed the word "happy", clicked into the ranking and waited.
After a while, Ling Yin sent another message.
Inhinl——Do you want to duo queue?
njhduisnk——Mid and AD?
Inhinl——Then play another position
njhduisnk——You won’t ask me to assist again, will you?
Inhinl——You play jungle
After a pause, Qu Xing smiled and directly called Ling Yin.
Ling Yin picked up the phone quickly.
"I thought you were going to say you were going to give me support!" Qu Xing said with a smile, "You actually let me play jungle."
Ling Yin paused: "I'm not very good at assisting."
"There's something you don't know how to play?" Qu Xing asked in surprise.
"Um."
"I don't believe it, then you play a game."
Ling Yin: “…”
He moved his mouse and invited Qu Xing to play in a duo: "Okay, don't criticize me if you don't play well, I'm live streaming."
"Don't slander me, Brother Ling. When have I ever criticized anyone?"
Ling Yin glanced at the comments and thought to himself that he had never criticized anyone before, but it was obvious that even the fans knew the correct answer.
Dazzling's pressure on supports has reached a point where even Wind is intimidated.
【Haha ...】
I've never seen Wind like this before.
[Brother Ling? Are you calling me so sweetly to seduce Wind?]
[Wind has such a good temper, he plays support when asked to?]
【Just a trick between young lovers】
Ling Yin didn't play much support, usually filling in. Although he was confident in his own operation, he didn't have the confidence to satisfy Qu Xing when he thought about his usual confusing demands on Jiang Lin. He didn't want to upset Qu Xing, as that would be a shame, considering it was his birthday.
But after playing for a while, Ling Yin realized that Qu Xing's play today wasn't as oppressive as usual. After helping to block the damage, Ling Yin looked at the comments in the live broadcast room.
He turned off the microphone and looked at the call page that hadn't been hung up just now - he didn't know why Qu Xing hadn't hung up.
"You played a little casually today." Ling Yin said.
"Hmm..." Qu Xing stared at the screen lazily: "My brain is not working anymore."
"Um."
The two of them fell silent. Ling Yin was lost in thought for a moment.
He felt that he was not in a good mood, probably because he had the opportunity to celebrate his little idol's birthday for the first time but failed to do so. But for some reason, he felt that Qu Xing's mood did not seem to be very good either.
But Qu Xing still spoke as usual, and Ling Yin didn't know where this feeling came from.
After a long time, a sneeze was heard from the other end of the silent phone.
"Are you cold?" Ling Yin asked casually.
"Hmm." Qu Xing rubbed his nose with one hand, "This room seems a bit cold."
No matter how casually he plays, Qu Xing is still terrifyingly strong. As long as his teammates are not too abstract, he can usually win easily.
Qu Xing finished the game and immediately left: "You're not bad at supporting. I told you that with your skill level, you shouldn't be bad at anything."
Ling Yin smiled and said, "Okay, I'm very satisfied to have your approval."
"What are you doing? Stop saying that." Qu Xing said with a smile, then paused: "I don't want to fight anymore. I'm not in good shape."
"Well, go to bed early." Ling Yin chuckled and said softly, "Happy birthday."
There was silence on the other end of the phone for a moment.
"good."
Ling Yin frowned and said, "Bye."
I saw Qu Xing again at noon the next day.
Ling Yin got up early and had been in the training room for a while. He didn't pay much attention to the noise behind him until he caught a glimpse of Qu Xing out of the corner of his eye.
"Good morning." Qu Xing sat down in the chair with a strong smell of morning dew on his body.
It's already noon.
Ling Yin: "...Good morning."
After the round, Ling Yin didn't queue up again, but instead looked down at his phone for a while. He waited until Qu Xing finished his first round before pushing the small gift bag over.
"I didn't have time to give you your birthday present yesterday."
"Ah?" Qu Xing looked at Ling Yin in surprise, then looked at the gift bag.
The gift bag was exquisite and looked very expensive. Qu Xing reached in and found a small, luxurious box inside. After a pause, Qu Xing gently opened the box.
"Earrings?" Qu Xing took out the little thing.
"Hmm." Ling Yin was a little nervous. "I remember seeing you like wearing this kind of things for a while. I wonder if you like it."
"Why are you paying so much attention to me?" Qu Xing glanced at him with a smile, then looked at the thing in his hand again.
There are two earrings, one is a simple stud earring, which seems to be inlaid with rubies or something, and it looks sparkling and very beautiful.
On the other side is an earring connected to an ear bone clip. The earring is inlaid with the same red broken gems. The chain connecting the earring and the ear bone clip is not an ordinary chain. It is densely inlaid with broken diamonds and the workmanship is extremely exquisite.
Qu Xing looked at it over and over for a long time. Ling Yin looked at his expressionless profile and became more and more undecided.
After a long while, Qu Xing turned his head and looked at him seriously: "Thank you, Captain. I like it very much."
Ling Yin's lips curled up as he glanced at Qu Xing's bright eyes that were a little moist.
"You are the first person to give me a gift this year." Qu Xing said.
Ling Yin was stunned and glanced at the bracelet on his wrist: "Isn't this the bracelet?"
Qu Xing raised his hand and looked at it.
"Okay, then you are the second one." Qu Xing said with a smile.
Ling Yin smiled and couldn't help but raised his hand to rub Qu Xing's head, and he actually touched it successfully.
After a pause, Ling Yin withdrew his hand.
"Are you..." Ling Yin hesitated.
Qu Xing: “Hmm?”
Ling Yin asked, "Are you having a conflict with your family?"
Although from what Qu Xing had said before, his father was not a good person, and his grandmother had passed away. The only person he had left was his mother, and he didn't know if he had a stepfather... or other family members.
If he still has conflicts with his family during his birthday, then the poor little thing will be even more pitiful.
Qu Xing was stunned. "No, why do you say that?"
"It seems like you were in a bad mood yesterday, and now," Ling Yin looked at him and said, "You seem to be in a bad mood."
“…”
Qu Xing uttered a soft "Ah," "Is it so obvious?"
"It's not obvious. You can't feel it unless you look carefully." Ling Yin frowned slightly: "What happened?"
Under normal circumstances, Qu Xing might have teased him about why he was looking so closely, but he just blinked, stood up, and walked over to Ling Yin.
"Captain, can you hug me?" Qu Xing said.
