Chapter 3 [Promise of Oneself]

"Didn't I tell you that I can collect intelligence on my own?" Zhu Fujingguang looked at the pendant handed to him by his friend and said in a rare unpleasant tone.

Furuya Rei grinned, ignoring his friend's unfriendly attitude, and showed a smile that was no different from when he was in Bourbon's state, "I didn't agree."

He waved the pendant in his hand in front of Zhu Fu Jingguang again, pretending to hand it forward, almost reaching it under Zhu Fu Jingguang's nose.

"Here, here you go. With this, you can talk to people openly."

"That's not necessary..." The young man in the blue sweatshirt sighed softly before not finishing his words. Then he smiled, thanked his friend for his help, and took the pendant.

The doll, made of non-woven fabric, has beautiful blue eyes, with eyelashes specially thickened and lengthened at the corners. It bears the same facial features as the person holding it. The only difference is the person's prickly mustache, which contrasts sharply with the doll's sparse stubble. But how different are they? Yet, they seem to share some common characteristics.

What bothered Morufushi Kagemitsu most was that the doll wore a precisely regulated uniform for a police academy student, also a police officer's uniform. If it weren't for the fact that all his photos from his academy days had been destroyed or deleted, Morufushi Kagemitsu would have suspected that the doll's creator must have seen himself in uniform.

He'd only been in the police academy for six months, but he'd already been in the organization for three years. Even Morobushi Jingguang himself had forgotten those days, three years ago, when the cherry blossoms fluttered in the wind, when he, in his police academy uniform, had apprehended the man who'd murdered his parents. The memory of that time was already a bit blurry.

However, the maker of the doll not only dressed the doll in a police uniform, but also gave it stubble that only an undercover agent would have.

It's impossible to say they weren't concerned. It's fair to say that not only Morofushi Kagemitsu, but also Rei Furuya, were extremely wary of this matter. This was also why Rei Furuya noticed a pendant in a news report he was casually reading. This kind of artifact, which could reveal the identity of an undercover agent, was too sensitive for the police undercover.

Zhu Fujingguang poked the doll's police uniform, a subtle smile curling his lips as his eyes softened. He'd had the same aspirations when he graduated from the police academy. He'd taken a photo in uniform and sent it to his brother, declaring it his glorious moment as a police officer. Back then, he'd truly wanted to wear the uniform and become a police officer that would make his brother proud.

Although he is still working towards the same goal, this police uniform is...

Will he ever wear a police uniform again? This is a worry shared by all undercover agents, a daily source of anxiety and doubt that keeps them awake at night.

Zhu Fujingguang held the doll in his hand. From the outside, all its features could not be seen. Then he winked at Furuya Ling and left the small space where the two were hiding.

With her hair dyed a vibrant color to resemble a character and dressed in a waitress uniform that also reflects that character's characteristics, this young-looking girl peers around in a dark alley. If someone with bad intentions were to appear, even escape would be difficult, for she carries the image of a young person with an innocent and naive demeanor.

Zhu Fujingguang made up his mind and no longer let other irrelevant factors affect him. He lowered his voice and asked from a distance of several meters away from the girl: "Is this what you are looking for?"

As the pendant is displayed, the metal chain on the doll's head collides with the small acrylic accessories, making a crisp and pleasant collision sound.

The girl suddenly turned around, her face painted with makeup that matched her character. While it might seem exaggerated for everyday wear, it complemented her outfit beautifully. The girl's melancholy expression, however, was uniquely hers and inconsistent with her lively character.

At this moment, as the doll appeared in front of the girl, the expression on her face changed from sad to happy, performing a series of amazing skills of changing her face instantly.

Her eyes were fixed on the pendant, and even if it shook slightly, her pink pupils would slowly shake along with it.

Just like a cat staring at a toy.

Even after the pendant was handed to her, she immediately reached out and snatched it in her hand, just like a cat.

An aggressive predator who is loyal to his own desires.

Fortunately, the girl still remembered the rules of human society. She held the doll in both hands, holding it close to her heart. She bent slightly and thanked the person in front of her repeatedly with gratitude: "Thank you, thank you! This is mine!"

Zhu Fujingguang was taller than the girl, and his slightly bent posture allowed him to see the moisture in the girl's eyes. He could feel her sincere gratitude and love for the pendant.

But this still didn't resolve his doubts, nor did it clear up the girl's suspicions.

He opened his mouth, thinking about how to deepen the connection between the two and use it as a breakthrough to obtain information about the source of the doll.

At this moment, the girl stood up straight, feeling the clothes and the chest radiating human heat in front of her, and then she realized that the person opposite her was much taller than her, and she had not yet been able to see the face of her "benefactor". If you want to thank someone, you must remember their face.

She raised her head and even took half a step back to avoid putting too much pressure on her neck.

So high!

For a woman, Agatsuma Sayuri isn't short in Japan. Standing at 168cm, she'd even put many Japanese men in the dust. Since starting life in this unfamiliar country, she's been working at a street-facing milk tea shop. Standing behind a window that requires climbing several steps, she often faces customers who are either shorter or about the same height, with a noticeable distance between them. The height difference never felt so overwhelming.

Agatsuma Sayuri swallowed, her gaze tremblingly moving upwards, across the loose sweatshirt, along the curve of the neck, and to the other person's face.

The man was lifting his hood, his half-closed eyes opening to meet her gaze. His beautiful blue eyes were the same color as the sky, their vast emptiness almost drawing her soul away. The slight upward curve at the corner of his eye was so seductive it was hard to tell if it was simply a natural allure or a sign of confusion.

In the dark alley, the man’s other features could not be seen clearly, but just these eyes were enough to make my wife Sayuri’s heart beat fast.

This was the look she'd always dreamed of. In the past, no cosplayer had ever been able to perfectly replicate this person's appearance. Perhaps they could mimic the face, but not the soul. After all, it was the image of a two-dimensional character in her mind, a product of a doubled-up imagination, a superposition of all beauty. It was inherently vastly different from reality, making it inherently difficult to recreate.

She felt her cheeks warm slightly, and the blood rushed through her limbs and bones, clamoring for a certain desire: I want him to be my model! If this person cosplayed Zhu Fu Jingguang, it would be a surefire hit! It had to be him, no one else but him!

"I, I..." The more excited the girl became, the more flustered she became. For a moment she stuttered and couldn't even speak clearly.

Not far away, the back door of the milk tea shop opened, and the employee inside called out into the alley, "Sayuri—are you still looking? Come back quickly, and we'll help you look later."

The girl was frightened and saw Zhu Fujingguang looking back at the milk tea shop. She thought he wanted to leave. In a hurry, she grabbed the man's hand and blurted out: "Please let me marry you!"

"Ah... no, no, I'm not saying I won't give myself to you, what I mean is..." The girl's courage seemed to be exhausted in that instant. When she tried to explain herself clearly, her voice became softer and softer, and weaker and weaker.

The employee who opened the door was also startled by Agatsuma Sayuri's sudden confession. Then a head popped out from behind the door, then two heads, then three heads. All the employees on duty today gathered at the door, grinning widely as they watched the girl grab the man.

"Oh~~" Several people smiled meaningfully, obviously misunderstanding something.

Zhu Fujingguang put his hat back on with his free hand. He looked down at the girl grasping his hand, his mind racing with thoughts: [There are calluses on her fingertips, and her palm is soft. It doesn't look like marks from spear training, but probably from frequent finger-pinching.]

[There are also calluses on the side of my middle finger, caused by years of holding a pen.]

In summary, this girl is as inoffensive as she appears.

My wife, Sayuri, was so nervous that her palms were sweating and a thin layer of sweat was forming on the tip of her nose. She lowered her head and whispered, "I, I... want to thank you, yes! I want to express my gratitude. I'll express my gratitude by giving myself to you."

This sounded like a line from a novel or story he'd read too many times. Zhu Fujingguang chuckled, "Aren't you afraid that I have a girlfriend?"

"Huh?" The girl raised her head again, her surprised look making the character she played look a little naive and silly.

She was stunned for a while, then shrank her neck and asked cautiously: "Do you have a girlfriend? Can I still be your girlfriend?"

When Agatsuma Sayuri first proposed, Morofushi Kagemitsu had intended to refuse. He did want to build a good relationship with the girl and have a deeper conversation, but the purpose of the conversation was limited to the pendant. He wasn't capable of deceiving the feelings of an innocent girl for such a purpose, like someone like Rai would.

But the way the girl tightly grasped his hand, the expectant and hopeful look in her eyes, the same expression that pleaded with him...it was hard for him to refuse.

He's an undercover agent, he shouldn't be so indecisive. But...

There is a burning vitality in Agatsuma Sayuri's eyes with colored contact lenses, which is something he has gradually lost since going undercover.

His original intention was to get in touch with her. Maybe after spending some time together, he could be ignited by this flame and feel the happiness of being under the light again?

For some unknown reason, he opened his lips, but under the girl's fixed gaze, he couldn't bring himself to say no. He tactfully adopted a tone that was somewhere between agreement and disagreement: "I'm honored to have your affection, but we're not familiar with each other yet... How about we start as friends?"

Her future path became brighter, and the girl smiled brightly and brilliantly: "You don't have a girlfriend, right? It doesn't matter, now you have one. At least, she's your future girlfriend, your current quasi-girlfriend."

She puffed out her chest, her carefully designed bow bouncing a bit, and her character regained its original energy. With one hand on her waist and the other patting her chest, the girl's tutu skirt danced up and down with her movements. "Don't worry, I'll definitely be a good girlfriend."

Such bold words, for some reason, seemed to carry some subtle meaning. Zhu Fujingguang suppressed his doubts, and, lifted up by the cheers behind him, gave the girl in front of him a light smile.

"I'm looking forward to it."
