Su Yao was also experiencing a surge of emotions. She secretly glanced at Lin Yu, looking at his handsome yet slightly conflicted face, and felt a ticklish sensation in her heart, as if a feather had gently brushed against it. She knew that her feelings for Lin Yu had transcended a simple contractual relationship, but she still lacked the courage to break through that barrier.
Chapter Four: A Night Walk
"How about we go for a walk and digest our food?" Lin Yu suggested. He felt that the ambiguous atmosphere in the house was making him feel suffocated. Going out for some fresh air might help him clear his head and give him more courage to face the feelings in his heart.
Su Yao nodded: "Okay, the night view outside is quite beautiful."
The two stepped out of the house. A gentle night breeze blew by, carrying a slight chill, yet it felt exceptionally pleasant. The streetlights in the neighborhood cast a dim, yellowish glow, illuminating their path. They walked slowly along the path, their footsteps sounding particularly clear in the quiet night.
"Look at those stars over there, they're so bright!" Su Yao suddenly stopped and pointed to the sky. Lin Yu looked in the direction she was pointing, and indeed, the deep night sky was filled with twinkling stars, a truly beautiful sight.
"Yeah, it's not easy to see such bright stars in the city." Lin Yu agreed, turning to look at Su Yao. The moonlight shone on her face, outlining her soft features, making her look like a fairy. Lin Yu was momentarily stunned.
Su Yao noticed Lin Yu's gaze and blushed slightly: "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Lin Yu snapped out of his daze, scratched his head, and said somewhat embarrassedly, "I just think you look especially beautiful tonight, even more dazzling than the stars."
Su Yao's heart felt as if it were filled with honey, sweet yet tinged with shyness. She gently nudged Lin Yu, saying, "You're just saying nice things to coax me."
The two continued walking, their conversation shifting from the stars to amusing childhood stories. Lin Yu recounted his mischievous childhood antics, including falling from a tree, which made Su Yao laugh heartily. When Su Yao recounted her first time cooking and the resulting mess in the kitchen, Lin Yu also laughed uncontrollably. Their laughter drifted through the night air, seemingly bridging the distance between them.
Chapter Five: Hearts Drawing Closer
Before they knew it, the two had walked into the community garden. The flowers in the garden were in full bloom, and their fragrance filled the air. They sat down on a bench, and it was very quiet around them, with only the occasional chirping of insects.
"Su Yao, actually I..." Lin Yu took a deep breath, wanting to say what was on his mind, but hesitated when the words reached his lips.
Seeing Lin Yu's hesitant expression, Su Yao vaguely guessed what he wanted to say. Her heart suddenly raced, filled with both anticipation and nervousness. She bit her lip and whispered, "What do you want to say? Why are you stammering?"
Lin Yu clenched his fist, as if summoning great courage, and was about to speak when his phone rang at an inopportune moment. He frowned, took out his phone, and saw that it was an urgent matter from the company that required his immediate attention.
"Sorry, something urgent came up at the company, I have to take this call," Lin Yu said helplessly to Su Yao, and then answered the phone.
Su Yao felt a pang of disappointment. The courage and ambiguous atmosphere she had just painstakingly built up were shattered by this phone call. Watching Lin Yu talk about work on the phone, she sighed inwardly, thinking that perhaps this was fate; the unspoken understanding between them hadn't been broken.
After hanging up the phone, Lin Yu looked at Su Yao apologetically and said, "I'm so sorry, I have to go back to the company to take care of something. You should go back and rest first."
Su Yao forced a smile: "It's okay, work is important, you should go."
Lin Yu stood up, glanced at Su Yao with reluctance in his eyes, but still turned and quickly left. Su Yao sat on the bench, watching Lin Yu's departing figure, her heart filled with mixed feelings. She knew that the feelings she had for him tonight could only be kept hidden in her heart for the time being. She just didn't know if they would be brave enough to take that step next time they had such an opportunity.
