Ayu gripped her water glass tightly, listening intently. "So who exactly are they? Isn't there anyone who can deal with them?"
The retired employee shook his head helplessly. "They are very secretive, and it's difficult to find out the specific members. All we know is that there are a few powerful figures controlling them. But it's not entirely hopeless. As long as we can find enough evidence to expose their crimes, we can use the power of the law to punish them."
Ayu nodded. She knew this was easier said than done, but she had no intention of backing down. "So what should we do next?"
“I think we should start with the surviving former employees of Ruifeng Group to see if we can find any written evidence or other clues. After all, they know something about what happened back then,” a retired employee said thoughtfully.
Just as they were discussing their next steps, they suddenly heard a commotion downstairs. Ayu's heart tightened, and she and the retired employee rushed to the window to look down. They saw several cars parked downstairs, and a group of people in black suits were getting out of the cars. Judging from their posture, it seemed like they were searching house to house.
"Oh no, they're catching up with us. They must have guessed we might be hiding nearby," the retired employee said anxiously.
The old lady panicked a little, "What should we do?"
Ayu gritted her teeth, "We can't drag you into this. Let's find another way to hide."
At this moment, Ayu saw a rooftop on the opposite building. The distance between the rooftops didn't seem too far. She had an idea. "Let's go from the rooftop. Maybe we can bypass them."
The retired employees looked around and felt that this was the only way. After thanking the old lady, the two quietly went up to the rooftop from the stairwell. Standing on the edge of the rooftop, looking at the distance between the two buildings, Ayu felt a little apprehensive, but the situation was urgent and there was no time to hesitate.
The retired employee tried jumping first and successfully landed on the opposite rooftop. After regaining his footing, he reached out his hand to Ayu. Ayu took a deep breath, took a few steps back, and then rushed forward, leaping with all her might. Just as she felt she was about to fall, the retired employee grabbed her hand tightly, pulled her up onto the rooftop.
The two dared not stop and continued to move between the rooftops. They finally managed to escape the search area and arrived at a relatively secluded street. Ayu felt exhausted, but she knew it was not time to rest.
“We need to find a place to settle down first. Hiding like this isn’t a solution. We’re always being chased by them, and we can’t conduct a proper investigation at all,” Ayu said.
The retired employee agreed, saying, "I know a place, a small, secluded house that an old friend of mine has been keeping quiet for a while. Let's go there and hide for a bit, and then we can discuss things further."
The two eventually arrived at the small house. Although the house was somewhat dilapidated, it was secluded. As soon as she entered, Ayu slumped into a chair, her thoughts returning to the question of her origins.
"Are you saying I really am the daughter of the chairman of Ruifeng Group? I still feel like I'm dreaming." Ayu looked at the retired employee, her eyes full of confusion.
The retired employee patted her on the shoulder. "Judging from the current clues, it's very likely, but to be sure, we need to find more conclusive evidence. In any case, Ayu, you're now caught in this dangerous vortex, and the road ahead won't be easy."
Ayu clenched her fist slightly. "No matter how difficult it is, I have to find out the truth. I can't let those bad guys get away with it, and I also want to know my true background."
Over the next few days, Ayu and the retired employees began searching for former employees of Ruifeng Group as planned. They inquired everywhere and finally found a few, but most of the former employees were very afraid and dared not easily talk about what happened back then, after all, the intimidation of that mysterious organization was too great.
Ayu repeatedly tried to communicate with them, assuring them that she would protect them and sharing her own experiences. Finally, one of the older employees was moved by her sincerity and was willing to reveal some clues.
"Back then, I remember that before the incident, the chairman seemed to have sensed that there was a mole in the company and had been secretly investigating. But before he could find out anything, his daughter went missing, and then the company fell into various crises and eventually declined," the old employee recalled. "I also heard that the mysterious organization seems to have a very important document that contains the truth about everything that happened back then. If we can find that document, everything will be clear."
Upon hearing this, Ayu and the retired employee's eyes lit up. "Do you know where that document might be?"
The veteran employee shook his head. "I don't know about that. I only know that they must have hidden it in a very secret place."
Although there was no exact location, at least they had a new target, and Ayu and the retired employees began to think about how to find the mysterious document again.
They tried to find out about the secret hideout of the mysterious organization through various channels, and encountered several ambushes by the organization, but escaped narrowly each time.
On one occasion, they received information that an abandoned factory on the outskirts of the city might be a base for a mysterious organization, and that the documents might be there. The two secretly went there under the cover of night, but they were discovered by patrolling guards as soon as they arrived near the factory.
Gunfire erupted, and Ayu and the retired employees could only hide in the bushes outside the factory, looking for an opportunity to break in. Ayu looked at the guards, feeling very scared, but when she thought of the document that might reveal the secret of her past, she mustered her courage.
