Episode 118: Arson at the Laboratory

The Plot Against Fire

On the eve of the laboratory arson

Night fell over the city, and dazzling lights twinkled in the darkness. However, inside the R&D building of [Company Name], a conspiracy was quietly brewing.

Lin Wanqing sat in her spacious, luxurious, modernly minimalist office, the floor-to-ceiling windows offering a view of the city's bustling nightscape, but her eyes held only calculation and malice. The driver stood respectfully to the side, awaiting her instructions. A cold smile appeared on Lin Wanqing's meticulously crafted face as she took a lipstick from her elegant handbag—the very shade she had applied that morning. Under the light, the brand logo on the lipstick tube gleamed with a chilling light.

"Take this and proceed according to plan. The hard drive in the R&D lab must be destroyed tonight." Lin Wanqing's voice was low and firm, as if it came from the darkest abyss.

The driver nodded slightly, took the lipstick, and put it in his pocket. He was wearing a black baseball cap, the brim pulled low, almost completely obscuring his face. "Don't worry, Miss Lin, I guarantee I'll complete the mission," the driver said in a hoarse voice, as if he hadn't had water in a long time.

The driver turned and left the office, his steps steady and swift. Lin Wanqing watched his departing figure, a slight smile playing on her lips. She picked up the glass of red wine on the table, took a small sip, and, thinking about the conspiracy that was about to be accomplished, a hint of smugness flashed in her eyes.

The shadowy figure under surveillance

At this moment, in the dimly lit corridor outside the R&D department's laboratory, a place usually bustling with people, it was unusually quiet tonight. Surveillance cameras were dutifully recording everything.

The driver arrived silently at the lab entrance, glanced around to make sure no one was watching, then took out pre-prepared tools from his pocket and skillfully opened the lab door. The moment the door opened, a faint smell of chemical reagents wafted out. He entered the lab, casually closed the door, and disappeared from the surveillance footage.

In the monitoring room, the security guards were idly watching the various screens. One of them occasionally glanced at the monitor outside the R&D department's laboratory and muttered, "Who would be going to the lab so late?" But he didn't pay much attention to it, assuming it was just some employee working overtime.

Time ticked by, and fifteen minutes later, the laboratory door was suddenly flung open by a plume of thick smoke, which quickly filled the corridor. In the surveillance footage, the smoke resembled a black demon, churning and billowing wildly.

"Oh no, the lab is on fire!" the security guard in the monitoring room shouted, and the entire monitoring room immediately fell into chaos.

Ah Yu's thrilling rescue

In another part of the company, Ah Yu was preparing to leave work. Suddenly, the fire alarm blared. Startled, he instinctively ran in the direction of the alarm and discovered that the R&D department laboratory was on fire.

Without the slightest hesitation, Ah Yu rushed into the smoke-filled laboratory. The fire was raging, flames licking at everything around them, and the heat was almost unbearable. In a corner of the laboratory, he saw a burning hard drive, the company's vital data storage device.

Ah Yu covered his mouth and nose with his arm and struggled toward the hard drive. Objects around him crackled in the fire, and things kept falling. He finally reached the hard drive, picked it up, and turned to rush toward the door.

As he rushed out of the lab, he caught a glimpse of half a lipstick near a fire hydrant in the corridor. The color was extremely familiar; it was the same shade Lin Wanqing had applied that morning. Ah Yu's heart skipped a beat. Before he could think further, the data on the hard drive was about to be completely destroyed by the flames.

Just before the hard drive completely burned out, Ah Yu glimpsed the abbreviation "SWINDLE" hidden in the data. He was horrified; this discovery made him realize that the fire was no accident and that a huge conspiracy must be hidden behind it.

The sting of childhood memories

The flames illuminated Ah Yu's pupils, and the raging fire before him suddenly overlapped with the flames of the fire from his childhood.

At that time, Ah Yu was just a child. His once warm and loving home was reduced to ashes in a sudden fire. He watched helplessly as his mother was trapped in the flames. The fire devoured everything, including his happiness and peace. After that fire, his life was completely changed, leaving an indelible scar in his heart.

At this moment, the same flames, the same fear and helplessness, washed over him once more. But this time, he seemed to have detected some clues related to the fire from years ago. Could all of this be related to Lin Wanqing? And Gu Yanting? Was the beneficiary of the insurance policy for that fire also intricately connected to the conspiracy before him?

Ah Yu's thoughts darted between the past and the present, his anger and doubt burning like flames. He gritted his teeth, staring at the completely burned hard drive in his hand, and secretly vowed to uncover the truth behind it all, no matter the cost.

Initial Clues and Confusion

Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. The R&D laboratory was a mess, and a pungent smell of burning filled the air.

Ah Yu stood outside the laboratory, clutching the half-eaten lipstick tightly in his hand, his eyes resolute yet filled with confusion. He knew that this half-eaten lipstick and the word "SWINDLE" on the hard drive were important clues to uncovering the conspiracy, but the truth they pointed to was as elusive as a fog.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving the report and began investigating the cause of the fire. Ah Yu provided the police with the clues he had discovered, but he did not mention Lin Wanqing's name because he knew that this woman had a complex network of relationships and powerful influence, and that revealing it without solid evidence would only alert her.

While the police were investigating, Ah Yu began to investigate on his own. He recalled a series of events that had occurred, from the financial discrepancies to his entanglements with Lin Wanqing and Gu Yanting; everything seemed to be heading towards a dark abyss. And what kind of shocking conspiracy was hidden at the bottom of this abyss?
