Ayu looked at him and nodded, feeling both nervous and expectant.
Chapter Six: Shocking Inside Story
The middle-aged man sat on the sofa and slowly said, "You are actually a descendant of the Lin family, a business tycoon back then. The Lin family was incredibly powerful in the business world, but they were suppressed by several other companies. Behind them was that mysterious organization. They created a series of conspiracies that plunged the Lin family into dire straits. You were still young at the time and were secretly sent away to save your life."
Ayu's eyes widened; she never imagined her background was so complicated and convoluted. "What about my parents? Where are they now?" Ayu asked anxiously.
The middle-aged man sighed and said, "Your parents both died in that tragedy, but they left behind some important things. These things are related to evidence of the illegal acts committed by those people back then. If you can find them, you can clear the Lin family's name and bring those masterminds to justice."
Ayu's eyes reddened, a wave of grief washing over her, but at the same time, a fiercer anger and determination ignited within her. "Where are these things?" she pressed.
The middle-aged man shook his head and said, "I don't know the exact location either, but I know it's related to a man named Old Chen. He was your father's confidant back then, so maybe he knows something. But you have to be careful. That mysterious organization has been watching this matter closely, and they definitely won't let you find any clues easily."
Chapter Seven: Danger Approaching
After thanking the middle-aged man, Ayu was quickly dismissed. Ayu sat on the sofa, processing the shocking news she had just received. She knew the road ahead would be even more difficult, but she had no intention of backing down.
However, what she didn't realize was that in a corner downstairs from her apartment, several people were watching her window. One of them, holding a cell phone, said, "Boss, she just met a stranger and seems to know a lot of things. Should we make a move?" A cold voice came from the other end of the line: "Don't rush. Keep watching her and see what she does next. Once you have a chance, destroy all the clues she has. We can't let her ruin our plans."
Ayu began inquiring about Old Chen's whereabouts, but after asking many people, she still had no clue. Just as she was about to try her luck in some old commercial districts, she noticed that suspicious figures were always loitering around her when she went out. She knew that she was being watched again, and this time, the danger seemed to be even closer.
Chapter 8: The Arduous Search
Ayu dared not act rashly again. She came up with a plan: by posting some cryptic requests for help online, pretending that she was looking for long-lost relatives, she hoped to attract Old Chen or someone who knew Old Chen's whereabouts.
Sure enough, a few days later, an anonymous reply came in saying they knew some things about Old Chen and asked Ayu to meet him at an abandoned factory on the outskirts of the city. Ayu hesitated, worried that it was a trap, but she didn't want to miss this opportunity, so she decided to go and check it out first.
After disguising herself again, she cautiously made her way towards the outskirts of the city. Upon reaching the vicinity of the abandoned factory, she didn't go in immediately. Instead, she observed the surroundings for a long time, making sure nothing was amiss before slowly approaching. But just as she reached the factory gate, she heard footsteps coming from inside. She quickly hid behind some old, dilapidated machinery.
Several burly men walked out, saying as they went, "That girl should be here soon. Once she arrives, grab her. The boss told us not to let her leave alive." Hearing this, Ayu covered her mouth in fright, not daring to breathe, and regretted how she had fallen into the trap so easily.
Chapter Nine: A Clever Escape
Ayu knew she had to leave as soon as possible. She surveyed her surroundings and spotted a hole at the back of the factory, which she could probably crawl through. Taking advantage of the fact that the burly men weren't paying attention, she crouched down and quietly moved towards the back.
Just as she was about to reach the hole, she suddenly stepped on a piece of sheet metal, which made a "creaking" sound.
"Who's there?" The burly men heard the voice and immediately ran over.
Ayu didn't care about anything else and sped up to rush towards the hole. After crawling out of the hole, she found herself in a wasteland overgrown with weeds. She ran as fast as she could, with the burly men in hot pursuit behind her.
After running for a while, Ayu saw a small river ahead. She gritted her teeth, jumped into the river, and swam downstream. The burly men chased after her to the riverbank, looked at the water, hesitated for a moment, but ultimately did not go into the water to chase her. They left, cursing and swearing.
Ayu finally swam to shore, soaking wet and in a sorry state, but at least she had escaped death. She knew that this experience had put her in even greater danger; that mysterious organization would certainly not let her go easily. However, she still did not give up on finding Old Chen. She was determined to find the evidence that could prove the Lin family's injustice.
Chapter Ten: New Clues
After this harrowing experience, Ayu became more cautious. She no longer easily believed anonymous messages, but instead sought out Old Chen through more reliable channels.
She remembered an elderly scholar she knew who was quite knowledgeable about the local commercial history; perhaps he knew Chen's whereabouts. Ayu went to great lengths to contact the scholar and explain her purpose.
After listening, the old scholar pondered for a moment and said, "Old Chen, I have heard of him. He used to live in an old alley in the south of the city, but it seems he moved away later. I don't know exactly where he moved to, but I remember that he had a hobby of often going to the antique market in the city center. You can try your luck there, maybe you can run into him."
