Seeing this, the passengers in the carriage panicked and backed away, creating a space. Ah Yu shielded Lin Wanqing behind her, confronting the thief. Just as the situation became tense, the subway suddenly braked sharply, and the thief lost his balance and lunged forward. Ah Yu seized the opportunity to kick the knife out of the thief's hand, and then, together with several helpful passengers, subdued the thief.
After all that commotion, Ah Yu and Lin Wanqing were both exhausted. But they knew the danger wasn't completely over. Finally, the subway arrived at a major station, and Ah Yu helped Lin Wanqing off the train.
V. Escape Again
As soon as they exited the subway station, Ah Yu led Lin Wanqing into a large shopping mall next door. The mall was bustling with people, and all sorts of shops were on display. They wandered around the mall, trying to shake off the bodyguards who might still be following them.
However, Gu Yanting's men did not give up easily. They discovered Ah Yu and Lin Wanqing's entry into the mall through surveillance footage, and quickly mobilized manpower to conduct a thorough search from all entrances of the mall.
Ah Yu and Lin Wanqing hid in the mall, sometimes slipping into the fitting rooms of clothing stores, sometimes blending into the crowds in restaurants. Lin Wanqing said in despair, "Ah Yu, it seems like we can't get rid of them no matter what we do, what should we do?" Ah Yu comforted her, "Don't be discouraged, we will definitely find a chance."
Just then, an announcement came over the mall's loudspeaker: "Dear customers, due to an internal electrical malfunction, the mall needs to temporarily evacuate. Please leave in an orderly manner through the nearest exit." Ah Yu's heart skipped a beat; this might be an excellent opportunity to escape.
He pulled Lin Wanqing along with the crowd towards the exit. Outside the mall, Gu Yanting's bodyguards were stationed at each exit, ready to apprehend A Yu and Lin Wanqing as soon as they emerged. However, as the crowd surged out like a tide, they couldn't possibly spot A Yu and Lin Wanqing.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Ah Yu and Lin Wanqing successfully escaped the bodyguards' encirclement. They ran all the way to a relatively secluded neighborhood, finally shaking off Gu Yanting's pursuers for the time being.
VI. Temporary Refuge
Ah Yu and Lin Wanqing searched the neighborhood for a place to hide temporarily. After walking for a while, they found a secluded little house. The house looked somewhat dilapidated, but the door was unlocked. Ah Yu carefully pushed the door open; there was no one inside, only some simple furniture and daily necessities.
"Let's hide here for a while," Ah Yu said. Lin Wanqing nodded; she was exhausted and collapsed into a worn-out chair as soon as she entered the room. Ah Yu walked to the window, carefully observing the outside, and only breathed a slight sigh of relief after confirming that there was nothing unusual.
The two women looked at each other, their emotions complex. Lin Wanqing's eyes held gratitude for Ayu, but also confusion and worry about the future. Ayu's eyes, on the other hand, were filled with determination and a resolve to protect Lin Wanqing. "I'm sorry for dragging you into such a dangerous situation," Ayu broke the silence. "No, I should be thanking you. If it weren't for you, I might be engaged to Gu Yanting," Lin Wanqing said.
The setting sun cast its last rays through the windows, adding a touch of warmth to the somewhat dilapidated house. However, they all knew the danger was far from over; Gu Yanting would certainly not let them off easily, and an even greater crisis might await them. But in this secluded little house, they had a temporary respite, and their resolve to face the future together had strengthened.
