Episode 13: An Unexpected Clue

The Mystery of My Origins

Chapter 1: Clues in the Photograph

Ayu sat in her dimly lit room, the table piled high with all sorts of materials she had collected. The air around her seemed heavy with tension. She clutched a yellowed photograph tightly in her hand, her gaze fixed on the luxurious villa in the picture and the blurry face of the middle-aged man beside it.

This photograph was like a mysterious key, unlocking the long-closed door in her heart—a door to her past. Ayu's fingers gently traced the edge of the photograph, her mind racing with various possibilities. Once she confirmed that the sign on the villa's gate was indeed the old headquarters of the Ruifeng Group, her heart could no longer find peace.

She knew she had to find out everything that was hidden behind this, even if it meant facing great danger. The retired employee she had contacted before had become her only hope. Previous attempts had failed to meet him, but this time, with the help of a friend, she finally got through on the phone.

On the phone, the retired employee's cautious tone made Ayu's heart leap into her throat. When he mentioned that the fierce power struggle within Ruifeng Group back then involved unknown secrets related to his identity, yet refused to elaborate and only agreed to meet at a secluded coffee shop, Ayu felt both excited and apprehensive. She knew this might be a crucial step in uncovering the truth, but she was also afraid that something unexpected might happen.

Chapter Two: Anonymous Warning

After hanging up the phone, Ayu was still immersed in the anticipation of meeting the retiring employees when her phone suddenly chimed, breaking the brief peace. She picked it up and saw an anonymous text message: "You shouldn't continue. This is your final warning."

Ayu's hands trembled slightly. The cold words on the text message seemed to carry an invisible pressure, making her breathing quicken. She bit her lip, caught in a dilemma. On one hand, this mysterious warning made her realize that her investigation had touched a nerve with certain forces, and continuing might truly lead to great danger; on the other hand, she had finally secured the opportunity to meet with the retired employee, and if she gave it up now, the secret of her past might be buried forever.

Ayu paced back and forth in the room, various thoughts flashing through her mind. Finally, her eyes hardened, she clenched her fists, and made up her mind that she had to keep the appointment no matter what. She couldn't let the truth slip away from her eyes like this, even if it meant facing mountains of knives and seas of fire.

Chapter Three: The Journey to the Appointment

Ayu carefully disguised herself, wearing a wide-brimmed hat with the brim pulled low, and large sunglasses to try and avoid attracting attention. After going out, she kept an eye on her surroundings, turning back every few steps to see if anyone suspicious was following her.

On her way to the coffee shop, Ayu deliberately chose some secluded alleys and less crowded streets, changing buses several times and walking a distance. Her heart was pounding, as if a drum was constantly beating in her chest, each beat pounding on her tense nerves.

When she finally saw the secluded coffee shop in front of her, Ayu breathed a sigh of relief, but immediately became alert again. She stood at the coffee shop entrance for a while, observing the surrounding environment, and only after confirming that there was nothing unusual for the time being did she slowly push open the somewhat old door.

The café was dimly lit, with only a few tables occupied by customers sitting in the corner, talking quietly and creating a mysterious and oppressive atmosphere. Ayu's eyes quickly scanned the café, and she soon spotted the retired employee sitting in the corner. He was looking around nervously, and when he saw Ayu, a fleeting hint of surprise and worry flashed in his eyes.

Chapter Four: The Secret in the Café

Ayu quickly walked over and sat down opposite the retired employee. Before she could speak, the retired employee made a shushing gesture, then looked around warily to make sure there was nothing amiss before lowering his voice and saying, "Young lady, you're really brave. You dared to come after receiving such a warning."

Ayu gave a bitter smile and replied softly, "I really have no choice. I need to know about my background. Please tell me in detail."

The retired employee sighed deeply and slowly said, "Back then, Ruifeng Group was incredibly successful, but who could have imagined the undercurrents within? That power struggle involved several factions at the top of the group, and they used every means to seize control. And you were very likely the chairman's most beloved daughter at the time."

Ayu's eyes widened. Although she already had some guesses, hearing it with her own ears still shocked her immensely. The retired employee continued, "Back then, someone wanted to steal the group's core secrets to gain the upper hand in the power struggle. But somehow, at the same time the secrets were leaked, the chairman's daughter, that is, you, disappeared. Everyone suspects that someone deliberately did this to completely destroy the chairman."

Ayu gripped the hem of her clothes tightly, her lips trembling slightly as she asked, "Do you know who orchestrated all of this?"

Just as the retired employee was about to answer, the coffee shop door was suddenly pushed open, a blinding beam of light shone in, and several tall men in black suits barged in. Their eyes were cold and fierce as they walked straight toward Ayu and the retired employee.

Chapter 5: Crisis Arrives

Ayu's heart leaped into her throat. Seeing this, the retired employee quickly pulled Ayu to her feet and ran towards the back door of the coffee shop. The men in black chased after them relentlessly, shouting threatening words.
