Just as she pressed the shutter, a shout came from behind her: "Who's there!" Ayu was so startled she almost screamed. She turned around and saw a security guard who had spotted her and was walking towards her with a flashlight.
Chapter Ten: Escape Again
Seeing this, Ayu took off running. The security guard chased after her, shouting and blowing his whistle, and the alarms throughout the villa area went off.
In a panic, Ayu ran towards the villa complex's wall, knowing that only by climbing over it could she escape. Reaching the wall, she leaped, grabbing the edge and struggling to climb. Security guards quickly caught up; some tried to grab her feet, but Ayu pushed off, breaking free and finally scaling the wall, falling heavily onto the grass outside.
Ignoring the pain, she got up and kept running until she reached a bustling neighborhood before stopping. She looked back to make sure no one was chasing her, then leaned against a streetlamp, panting heavily.
Although she was in danger again, Ayu was grateful to have discovered such an important clue. She knew she was one step closer to the truth. Next, she needed to find a way to collect more evidence of this man's crimes, to completely expose the truth of what happened back then, and to bring those who did evil to justice.
Chapter 11: Evidence Collection
Ayu began to secretly investigate the suspicious man's whereabouts and daily activities. She discovered that the man frequently visited a private club, and each time he went there he would carry a black briefcase. Ayu guessed that the briefcase might contain some important documents or information.
To get her hands on the briefcase, Ayu went to great lengths. She first bribed a cleaner at the club to keep an eye on the man's movements. She learned that the man always left his briefcase in a specific locker at the club, and the locker's password was his birthday.
Ayu found out the man's birthday through various channels. Then, taking advantage of the opportunity when the man was discussing business at the club, she disguised herself as a staff member of the club, secretly sneaked into the room where the lockers were stored, opened the locker with the password, and sure enough, saw the black briefcase.
She carefully opened the briefcase, inside which were some documents and ledgers recording some shady transactions, including details of financial dealings and intrigues during the power struggle within the Ruifeng Group years ago. Ayu was overjoyed; she quickly photographed the contents of the documents with her phone, then put the briefcase back untouched in the locker and quietly left the club.
Chapter Twelve: Seeking Help
With this evidence, Ayu knew she needed more power to fight against the forces behind the scenes. She remembered Lin Hao, a righteous lawyer she had met in the business world. Lin Hao had always been passionate about representing those who had been treated unfairly, and he possessed extensive legal experience and a wide network of connections.
Ayu found Lin Hao and told him about her past experiences and the evidence she had collected. Lin Hao was shocked and immediately offered to help Ayu. He carefully examined the evidence photos Ayu had taken and analyzed, "This evidence is crucial, but it's not complete enough. We need to find more direct witnesses from back then to ensure we have a legal basis."
So the two of them began to compile a list of possible witnesses from that year. They started with former employees of Ruifeng Group, former business partners, and even those who had contact with the suspicious man, visiting them one by one in the hope of finding someone willing to come forward and testify.
Chapter Thirteen: The Witness's Concerns
However, things didn't go as smoothly as they had imagined. Many people looked hesitant when they heard they had to testify about what happened back then, expressing fear of retaliation. After all, those forces were ruthless back then, and no one wanted to put themselves and their families in danger because of this.
Ayu and Lin Hao didn't give up. They patiently explained to everyone that only by revealing the truth could the bad guys be punished and everyone truly be safe. Through their tireless efforts, several veteran employees were finally moved and willing to stand up and testify. However, they also made a request: they hoped Ayu and Lin Hao could guarantee their safety.
Ayu and Lin Hao agreed to their request and began arranging a safe hiding place for the witness. They also contacted the police, explained the situation, and handed over the evidence they had collected, hoping that the police could intervene in the investigation, protect the witness, and help them uncover the truth of what happened back then.
Chapter Fourteen: Police Operations
After receiving the clues and evidence provided by Ayu and Lin Hao, the police attached great importance to the matter and immediately established a special task force to investigate. The police first secretly monitored the suspicious man, and learned about his daily activities and the people he came into contact with.
As the investigation deepened, police discovered that this man was connected to a vast criminal network. This network was not only involved in the power struggle within the Ruifeng Group years ago, but also engaged in illegal and criminal activities in multiple other business sectors. Police began a gradual crackdown, first arresting peripheral suspects and then, through interrogation, obtaining more evidence of crimes committed by the core figures.
The suspicious man seemed to sense the danger and became more cautious, frequently changing residences and reducing his outings in an attempt to evade police pursuit. However, the police had already laid a tight net, and his every move was under their control.
Chapter Fifteen: An Unexpected Obstacle
Just as the police were preparing to arrest the suspicious man, they encountered unexpected obstacles. It turned out that the man's backers had used their connections to try and interfere with the police investigation. False evidence was submitted to mislead the investigation, and unidentified individuals threatened and harassed the task force officers.
