Zhong Hua's breakdown
After the paparazzi exposed the complicated relationship between Ah Yu, Zhong Hua, and Lin Wanqing, the internet instantly ignited, like a raging, out-of-control fire that mercilessly engulfed Zhong Hua. A deluge of malicious comments, like a tidal wave, assaulted her, each one like a sharp blade, relentlessly piercing her body and soul.
Zhong Hua's fingers trembled as she refreshed the webpage, the vile words hitting her eyes. "What a rich and beautiful woman, she's clearly a scheming woman, interfering in the relationship of a wealthy family, shameless!" "She always pretends to be innocent, I never thought she was this kind of person, disgusting!" "A wealthy family is not for someone like her to climb, she should look at herself."... All sorts of vicious accusations and insults were like a group of savage demons, wantonly gnawing at her reason and strength.
Her eyes were red and swollen, tears welling up but stubbornly refusing to fall. She tried to explain herself on social media, her fingers flying across the keyboard, each word brimming with her grievance and helplessness: "It's not what you see. Ah Yu and I are truly in love. Gu Yanting is the one who started this farce..." However, her explanation, like a faint candle flame, was instantly and mercilessly drowned out by the tsunami of public opinion. Instead of gaining understanding, it attracted even more attacks, with a new wave of malicious comments flooding the comments section: "Still trying to deny it, what a liar!" "Even after all this, he still won't admit it, he's so shameless!"
Zhong Hua felt as if she were in a dark, boundless abyss, surrounded by cold stone walls, without a ray of light, and with nowhere to climb. Her world seemed to collapse at that moment, all her beauty and hope vanishing in the face of this overwhelming malice.
She recalled her past, a simple and happy life she once had, the time she spent with Ah Yu, every moment filled with sweetness and warmth. They would stroll together on the beach, listening to the sound of the waves, dreaming of the future. Those beautiful scenes now seemed like a distant dream, forever out of reach. And now, everything had been completely destroyed by this terrible storm of public opinion.
She tried contacting her friends, hoping to get some comfort and support from them. However, the calls either went unanswered or were met with cold indifference. Her once close friends now seemed afraid of being caught in the flood of public opinion and avoided her. Zhong Hua felt as if she had been struck hard by a heavy hammer, the pain almost suffocating her.
She sat alone in the empty room, the air around her seemingly frozen, oppressive and suffocating. The photo of her and Ah Yu hanging on the wall now seemed to cruelly mock her desolation. Gazing at the once happy image of herself and Ah Yu in the picture, tears finally welled up and streamed down her cheeks. She cried out loud, her sobs filled with despair and helplessness, as if trying to release all the pain in her heart.
Exhausted from crying, she collapsed onto the sofa, staring blankly at the ceiling. At that moment, her mother's condition suddenly worsened, like a bolt from the blue, striking her once again. She knew her mother needed exorbitant medical expenses, and she herself was now in such a desperate situation, barely able to support herself, and facing the cruel reality of her mother's life hanging by a thread.
She thought of Ah Yu, the man she deeply loved, who was also facing an industry blackout and hitting walls everywhere. She felt sorry for Ah Yu, yet also felt like a burden to him. She knew that Gu Yanting wouldn't let them off easily, and that more hardships and crises might await them.
In this endless darkness and despair, Zhong Hua felt her mental defenses crumbling bit by bit. She didn't know how much longer she could hold on, nor how to move forward. Every time she tried to think of a solution, her mind was filled with malicious comments and the pressure of her mother's serious illness, making it impossible for her to concentrate.
She began to doubt herself. Had she made a mistake from the very beginning? Should she not have been with Ah Yu to avoid this series of disasters? Self-blame and regret gnawed at her heart like venomous snakes, plunging her into deeper pain.
Night fell, and the city's neon lights still flickered, but Zhong Hua's world remained shrouded in darkness. She huddled in the corner of the sofa, her body trembling uncontrollably, like a wounded animal, alone and helplessly awaiting her unknown fate.
The next day, sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating Zhong Hua's weary face. She slowly opened her eyes, her gaze filled with exhaustion and confusion. The new day brought her no hope; instead, it made her even more acutely aware of her desperate situation.
She forced herself to get up, quickly washed up, and decided to go to the hospital to visit her mother. Walking down the hospital corridor, everything around her seemed so cold and unfamiliar. She could feel the gazes of those around her like needles piercing her, and the whispers seemed to be discussing her misery.
Arriving at her mother's hospital room, seeing her frail mother lying on the bed, Zhong Hua's tears welled up again. Her mother slightly opened her eyes, and seeing her daughter so haggard, she reached out to stroke her face with heartache. Zhong Hua tightly grasped her mother's hand, choking back sobs, "Mom, I'm sorry, I'm useless, I've made you worry..." Her mother weakly shook her head, saying in a feeble voice, "Child, don't...don't blame yourself, Mom believes in you..." Hearing her mother's words, Zhong Hua's pain intensified. She knew that even in this state, her mother was still comforting her, while she could do nothing about it.
After leaving the hospital, Zhong Hua wandered aimlessly through the streets. She didn't know where to go or what to do. Suddenly, her phone rang; it was Gu Yanting calling. Zhong Hua hesitated for a moment, then answered. Gu Yanting's mocking and threatening voice came from the other end of the line: "Zhong Hua, now you know your situation, right? If you make Ah Yu leave you, I might consider helping you pay for your mother's treatment. Otherwise, just wait and see your mother die in agony because you can't afford treatment!"
