Episode 138: Lin Wanqing's Self-Reproach

Lin Wanqing's Path to Redemption

The Beginning of Self-Reproach

Lin Wanqing huddled in a small, dimly lit corner of the room, the air around her seemingly heavy and oppressive. Outside the window, the city's hustle and bustle surged in like a tide, but it couldn't dispel the ever-present self-reproach deep within her heart.

Her gaze was fixed blankly on the ground, her mind replaying fragments of the past. From Ah Yu taking her away at their engagement party without regard for anything else, to the ensuing uproar, the cyberbullying Zhong Hua suffered, and the industry blacklist Ah Yu faced, every scene was like a sharp needle, deeply piercing her heart.

"If it weren't for me, how could they have fallen into such a desperate situation?" Lin Wanqing murmured to herself, her voice filled with pain and regret. She recalled Zhong Hua's desperate and broken expression; under the overwhelming barrage of malicious rumors, that once strong girl had become so fragile. And Ah Yu, who, despite facing setbacks everywhere, still tried his best to protect them and clarify the facts. He, who should have been enjoying smooth sailing in his career, was now blacklisted and had nowhere to stand.

"It's all my fault." Lin Wanqing clutched her head tightly, her body trembling slightly. She felt like a jinx, shattering the lives of those around her.

Painful contemplation

Lin Wanqing looked up at the sky outside the window, fragmented by skyscrapers, tears blurring her vision. She pondered how to atone for her mistakes and how to protect Ah Yu and Zhong Hua.

She knew full well Gu Yanting's cunning and treachery; he was secretly orchestrating attacks on Zhong Hua and A Yu, bribing online trolls to destroy them. She herself seemed to have become a key pawn in this conspiracy, unwittingly dragging A Yu and Zhong Hua into an endless abyss.

"This can't go on any longer. I have to do something." Lin Wanqing clenched her fists, her nails digging deep into her palms, leaving crescent-shaped marks. She thought of her past, the huge conspiracy hidden behind the fire—perhaps this was her breakthrough to save them.

"If I could uncover the truth of what happened back then, could I disrupt Gu Yanting's plans and clear Ah Yu and Zhong Hua's names?" A glimmer of hope ignited in Lin Wanqing's heart, but it was quickly replaced by worry. She feared that her actions would bring greater danger to Ah Yu and Zhong Hua, after all, Gu Yanting would never easily let go of anyone who stood in his way.

However, seeing the suffering they were enduring, Lin Wanqing knew she had no other choice. Even if it meant jumping into an abyss, she had to bravely do it to carve out a path for them to survive.

A resolute decision

After countless sleepless nights, Lin Wanqing finally made a shocking decision—to turn herself in and take the blame. She knew full well what this decision meant, that it might plunge her into an abyss of no return, but to protect Ah Yu and Zhong Hua, she was willing to pay any price.

"As long as they are safe and sound, any suffering I endure is worth it," Lin Wanqing said to herself in the mirror, her eyes revealing an unprecedented determination. She carefully tidied her clothes, trying to make herself appear more composed.

Before leaving the small house, Lin Wanqing took one last look around. This place had witnessed her time with Ah Yu; those complex emotions, those searches about her past, would all become a precious part of her memory. She gently closed the door, as if bidding farewell to her past self.

Farewell before surrendering

With a heavy heart, Lin Wanqing arrived at the place where Ah Yu often frequented. She saw Ah Yu from afar; he looked exhausted, yet his eyes still held a stubbornness and determination. A pang of pain shot through Lin Wanqing's heart as she slowly walked towards Ah Yu.

"Ah Yu," Lin Wanqing called softly, her voice trembling slightly. Ah Yu turned around, and a look of surprise flashed in her eyes when she saw Lin Wanqing.

"Wanqing, why are you here? It's not safe here, you should go back quickly," Ah Yu said anxiously, her eyes full of concern.

Lin Wanqing looked at Ah Yu, tears welling up in her eyes. "Ah Yu, I... I've come to say goodbye to you."

"Saying goodbye? Where are you going?" Ah Yu asked, puzzled, a sense of foreboding rising in her heart.

Lin Wanqing took a deep breath, trying to calm her voice. "Ah Yu, I've decided to turn myself in and take all the blame. That way, Gu Yanting will have no reason to target you and Zhong Hua anymore."

"No! Wanqing, you can't do this! This isn't your fault, it's that bastard Gu Yanting who's behind this!" Ah Yu grabbed Lin Wanqing's shoulders excitedly and shouted.

Lin Wanqing gently pulled her hand away from A Yu's and said with a smile, "A Yu, don't be impulsive. I know this is risky, but it's the only way I can think of. You and Zhong Hua must be good to each other and bravely pursue your own happiness."

After saying that, Lin Wanqing turned and left quickly without waiting for A Yu to speak again. She was afraid that if she lingered for even a second longer, she would waver in her resolve. A Yu stood there, staring blankly at her departing figure, her heart filled with mixed emotions.

Police confession

Lin Wanqing arrived at the police station, took a deep breath, and slowly walked through the door. The police officer who greeted her looked at her haggard yet determined face and couldn't help but feel a little puzzled.

"I want to turn myself in." Lin Wanqing's voice wasn't loud, but it carried an undeniable determination.

The police took her to the interrogation room and began questioning her. Lin Wanqing gave a detailed account of a series of so-called "crimes," taking all the blame upon herself. She fabricated a seemingly complete story, saying that she planned the kidnapping at the engagement banquet out of jealousy of Zhong Hua and A Yu's relationship, which also triggered a series of subsequent troubles.
