Reunion in the Land of Memories
In the afternoon, sunlight streamed down like silken threads, casting a soft halo over the city. Lin Wanqing, with mixed emotions, finally decided to meet Ah Yu. She chose a place that held special significance for them—an abandoned park on the outskirts of the city. Once, in their youth, they had laughed and played here, dreaming of the future; this place held so many beautiful memories.
When Ah Yu received Lin Wanqing's message and saw that familiar location, his heart skipped a beat. He put aside what he was doing—raising money for Zhong Hua's mother's treatment—and rushed over. A gentle breeze, carrying a hint of autumn coolness, ruffled Lin Wanqing's hair. She stood beside the old swing in the park, her figure appearing somewhat frail.
As Ah Yu approached, a complex mix of emotions welled up within her upon seeing Lin Wanqing. Lin Wanqing slowly turned around, her gaze meeting Ah Yu's, her eyes filled with deep affection, reluctance, and tenderness. "Ah Yu," she whispered, her voice trembling slightly in the wind.
"Wanqing, why... why did you suddenly ask me to come here?" Ah Yu asked, noticing that Lin Wanqing seemed to have something on her mind.
Lin Wanqing took a deep breath, as if to encourage herself, "Ah Yu, you must bravely pursue your own happiness and not let these things bind you." Her eyes revealed determination.
Ah Yu's doubts deepened, and just as she was about to ask further, Lin Wanqing continued, "I have to do something I must do. No matter the outcome, you must take good care of yourself."
Seeing Lin Wanqing's resolute expression, Ah Yu felt a strong sense of foreboding. "Wanqing, what's wrong? Don't scare me." He took a step forward, trying to grab Lin Wanqing's arm.
However, Lin Wanqing seemed to have anticipated this, gently stepping aside and turning to leave. Her retreating figure exuded a resolute determination, her steps firm, as if she had left all hesitation and reluctance behind. Ah Yu watched her receding figure, wanting to chase after her, yet unsure where to begin, her heart filled with confusion and worry.
Past feelings and entanglements
Lin Wanqing and Ayu's acquaintance dates back to their student days. Back then, Ayu was a sunny and cheerful boy at school, his agile figure always visible on the basketball court, while Lin Wanqing was a quiet and introverted girl, always silently reading in a corner of the library. One day, by chance, Ayu bumped into Lin Wanqing while looking for a book in the library, scattering books all over the floor. However, fate is often unpredictable. Later, Ah Yu met Zhong Hua. Zhong Hua's enthusiasm, cheerfulness, courage, and persistence deeply attracted Ah Yu. Ah Yu and Zhong Hua quickly fell in love, and Lin Wanqing, watching their happiness, felt a pang of bitterness in her heart. But she buried her feelings deep inside, choosing to silently protect Ah Yu as a friend.
Over the years, Lin Wanqing watched Ah Yu and Zhong Hua's relationship grow stronger, feeling both heartache and relief. That peace was shattered by the arrival of Gu Yanting. To achieve his goals, Gu Yanting ruthlessly targeted Ah Yu and Zhong Hua, plunging them into hardship. Lin Wanqing knew the root of all this lay with her; if she hadn't had a past entanglement with Gu Yanting, he wouldn't have vented his anger on Ah Yu and Zhong Hua.
The truth of the crime comes to light
Lin Wanqing began secretly investigating Gu Yanting's actions. Using her connections, she gathered information from various sources. In the process, she gradually uncovered a series of heinous crimes committed by Gu Yanting. It turned out that, in order to gain an advantage in business competition, Gu Yanting not only secretly manipulated public opinion to smear his competitors, but also engaged in illegal transactions, bribery of officials, and other illegal activities. Her entanglements with Ayu and Zhong Hua were merely one link in his business conspiracy.
Looking at the ever-increasing amount of evidence in her hands, Lin Wanqing felt both anger and fear. She was angry at Gu Yanting's evil deeds, but fearful that if this evidence were exposed, Gu Yanting would surely resort to desperate measures, and Ah Yu and Zhong Hua would face even greater danger. After parting ways with Ayu, Lin Wanqing returned home and sat in her dimly lit room, holding the evidence against Gu Yanting, her mind racing. She knew that if she turned herself in tomorrow and took all the blame, she might face a long prison sentence. But she also knew that if she didn't, Ayu and Zhong Hua might be completely ruined by Gu Yanting.
Seeing Lin Wanqing's distraught state, her mother felt heartbroken. "Wanqing, what's wrong? Don't scare your mother." Her mother sat down beside her and gently stroked her hair.
Lin Wanqing looked at her mother, tears welling up in her eyes. "Mom, I... I have to do something. I might not be able to be by your side to take care of you anymore," she sobbed.
The mother looked astonished. "Wanqing, what's so serious? Tell me, and we'll figure something out together."
Lin Wanqing shook her head. "Mom, this is what I have to do. Only in this way can I protect the people I care about. Don't ask anymore. You have to take good care of yourself from now on."
