Episode 15: Crisis Arrives

Crisis Rescue Behind the Truth

Chapter 1: The Choice After the Escape

As Ayu successfully escaped the men in black, she leaned against the street wall, panting heavily. The image of the retired employee's resolute yet fearless gaze when he was captured by the men in black kept flashing through her mind. Guilt and worry overwhelmed her like a tidal wave. She knew she couldn't back down like this; she had to find a way to rescue the retired employee who had been in danger to protect her, and at the same time, continue to uncover the mystery of his past hidden behind layers of fog.

Ayu forced herself to calm down and began to think about a rescue plan. She first carefully recalled the scene when the men in black appeared, trying to determine the modus operandi and possible strongholds of the mysterious organization they belonged to. However, based on that brief contact alone, it was difficult to obtain much useful information. She decided to return home first, where it was relatively safe, and where she could organize her thoughts and see if she could find a breakthrough from the information she had previously collected about her background and the mysterious organization.

Back home, Ayu spread all the documents out on the table; those papers seemed to carry all her hopes and anxieties. She realized that when she contacted the retired employee, she had noted down several people the employee mentioned who might know more inside information, and perhaps she could start with them. But she also worried that rushing to ask them might not only fail to rescue the retired employee but also drag more people into danger.

Just as Ayu was caught in a dilemma, her phone suddenly received an anonymous text message that read: "If you want to save him, come alone to the abandoned factory in the eastern suburbs at 10 pm tonight. Do not call the police, or you will bear the consequences." Ayu looked at the text message, her hands trembling slightly. She knew it was likely a trap, but it might be the only chance to rescue the retired employee. She gritted her teeth and decided to go.

Chapter Two: The Dangerous Appointment

As night fell and darkness enveloped the city, Ayu walked alone towards the abandoned factory in the eastern suburbs. Along the way, she cautiously observed her surroundings, fearing something amiss. The closer she got to the factory, the more eerie the atmosphere became; the abandoned buildings looked particularly sinister under the moonlight, like menacing beasts.

When Ayu arrived at the factory gate, it was tightly shut, and the only sound was her own heartbeat. She took a deep breath and pushed open the heavy door with a creak that was particularly jarring in the quiet night. Just as she stepped into the factory, the door slammed shut behind her. Ayu's heart skipped a beat; she knew she had no way out.

"You've finally arrived. You've got some nerve." A hoarse voice came from the darkness. Immediately afterward, several large lights came on, so bright that Ayu couldn't open her eyes. Once her eyes adjusted, she could see several men in black standing in front of her, while the retired employee was tied to a chair nearby, his mouth taped shut. He looked listless, but his eyes showed anxiety, as if gesturing for Ayu to leave quickly.

"What exactly do you want? Release him, and I'll agree to anything you ask," Ayu said, trying to appear calm.

"Hmph, let him go? Do you think that's possible? You shouldn't have meddled in other people's business and investigated things you shouldn't have. Now, hand over all the information you have about us, and maybe we can let you die a little easier," the leader of the men in black said with a sneer.

Ayu knew in her heart that she hadn't brought any information with her, and even if she handed it over, they wouldn't let her and the retired employees go. While dealing with the men in black, she secretly surveyed her surroundings, looking for a possible opportunity to break through or rescue them.

Chapter Three: Clever Maneuvering

"I don't have any documents with me. Please release him first, and I'll go back and get them for you," Ayu tried to stall for time.

"Do you think we're fools? Stop playing tricks. Since you refuse to cooperate, don't blame us for being impolite." The leader of the men in black waved his hand, and two men in black walked towards Ayu.

Seeing this, Ayu turned and ran towards a pile of old, abandoned machines. She nimbly weaved between the machines, using the complex terrain to play hide-and-seek with the man in black. For a moment, the man in black couldn't catch her and could only chase after her relentlessly, cursing under his breath.

While on the run, Ayu discovered a staircase leading to the second floor of the factory and rushed up without thinking. The second floor was relatively spacious, but it was also filled with all sorts of discarded debris. Ayu picked up a steel pipe, using it as a weapon, and warily watched the men in black who were chasing after her.

"Let's see where you can run now!" the leader of the men in black shouted, and several of them slowly surrounded Ayu.

Ayu knew that a direct confrontation was not an option. She suddenly remembered some escape methods she had seen on television, such as creating chaos in the environment. She forcefully threw a steel pipe towards a nearby window. With a loud crash, the men in black, thinking she was trying to escape through the window, rushed towards it. Ayu seized the opportunity and ran in another direction, where there was a makeshift staircase leading to the roof. She quickly climbed up it.

Chapter Four: Rooftop Desperation

Upon reaching the rooftop, Ayu realized she was in dire straits. High walls surrounded the roof, offering no other way out. The men in black quickly caught up, looking at Ayu with smug smiles.

"Now you have nowhere to run, so just obediently accept your death," said the leader of the men in black.

Ayu looked at them in despair, clutching a brick she had picked up from the ground tightly in her hand, preparing for a final stand. Just as the men in black were about to reach her, suddenly, police sirens sounded in the distance. The men in black's expressions changed; they clearly hadn't expected Ayu to call the police.

"Damn it, she must have planned this all along! Let's go!" the leader of the men in black shouted, and several of them turned and ran downstairs.
