A situation with undercurrents
I. Detecting subtle clues
In the luxurious yet mysterious Gu family mansion, Gu Yanting, like a hawk lurking in the shadows, keenly observed every unusual detail. Ayu's recent movements had become increasingly secretive; she often avoided public view and met privately with seemingly mysterious individuals. Each time their conversation ended, she would leave hurriedly, clutching papers tightly in her hand, before quickly hiding them in a secluded spot within the house.
Gu Yanting initially paid no attention, assuming Ayu was simply busy with household chores. However, one day, while he was handling business in his study, Ayu rushed in, her expression flustered upon seeing him, nearly dropping the letter in her hand. Gu Yanting's sharp eyes instantly caught Ayu's unusual behavior. After Ayu left, he quietly examined the letter. Although he didn't see the crucial contents, suspicion immediately arose in his heart.
Afterward, he secretly arranged for a trusted confidant to follow Ayu. The confidant reported that Ayu frequently visited law firms and some small companies that had previously been suppressed by the Gu family. Gu Yanting's heart skipped a beat; he realized that Ayu might be collecting evidence against him. This realization flashed a ruthless glint in his eyes; he would never allow anyone to threaten his position and interests.
II. A Carefully Planned Trap
Gu Yanting returned to his study, sat in the large leather chair, and tapped his fingers rhythmically on the table as he rapidly devised a plan. He decided to set a trap, one that would leave Ayu trapped and unable to escape.
He first contacted a business rival with whom he secretly colluded. This man, named Lin Kun, had long coveted some of the Gu family's assets, and the two hit it off immediately. Gu Yanting instructed Lin Kun to spread the word that a batch of valuable confidential business documents had been leaked to the public, and anyone who could provide key information would receive a huge reward. At the same time, he arranged for people to forge some confidential documents that seemed to be related to him, and deliberately pointed the clues towards A Yu.
These forged documents were hidden in a secluded corner of a secondhand bookstore that Ayu frequented. Gu Yanting had calculated that Ayu, eager to collect evidence, would be on the lookout for any possible clues. Once she discovered the documents and took them away, she would fall into his trap.
To make the trap more realistic, Gu Yanting also bribed an informant within the police station. As soon as Ayu obtained the forged documents, the informant would notify the police to arrest her on charges of stealing trade secrets. Meanwhile, Lin Kun would also step in at the appropriate time to testify that Ayu was attempting to use these confidential documents to make a deal with him.
III. Ayu's Entry Crisis
While searching for evidence, Ayu indeed discovered the old bookstore. The store was filled with the musty smell of aged books, the shelves stacked high, bearing the marks of time. She inadvertently found some documents on a corner shelf; the familiar Gu family logo and some sensitive content on them thrilled her, making her believe she had found crucial evidence.
Without thinking twice, she quickly hid the documents and hurriedly left the bookstore. However, as soon as she stepped out of the bookstore, she was stopped by a group of police officers. The police wanted to take her away on suspicion of stealing trade secrets. Ayu was terrified. She tried to explain, but the police wouldn't listen.
At the police station, Ayu vehemently denied stealing the confidential documents during interrogation. However, the evidence was undeniable: her fingerprints were on the forged documents, and she had indeed taken them from the bookstore. Lin Kun then appeared and righteously testified that Ayu had attempted to trade these confidential documents with him for personal gain.
Ayu was speechless, realizing she had fallen into a meticulously planned trap. But she was unaware that Gu Yanting was the mastermind, nor the intricacies of the scheme. Now, she was utterly alone and helpless, as if trapped in a dark abyss, surrounded by cold walls, with no hope in sight.
IV. Opportunities Amidst Crisis
Just as Ayu was feeling desperate, she suddenly remembered a detail. When she found the documents in the secondhand bookstore, she remembered a strange mark next to them, like some kind of special symbol. She had seen this symbol on some documents within the Gu family before, and it seemed to be related to Gu Yanting's personal mark.
Ayu firmly believed this was the key clue to breaking the trap. She calmed herself and asked the interrogating police to allow her to review the documents again and to contact her lawyer. After some hesitation, the police, swayed by her insistence, granted her request.
Ayu's lawyer arrived quickly, and she told him about her discovery. The lawyer, with his professional expertise, realized this might be the key to clearing Ayu's name. He used his connections to contact a retired employee with extensive knowledge of Gu's internal affairs. After seeing the symbol Ayu described, the retired employee confirmed that it was indeed a personal mark used by Gu Yanting, and that such marks were typically used for his secret schemes.
The lawyer, armed with this evidence, argued forcefully in court, pointing out that it was likely a conspiracy orchestrated by Gu Yanting to frame Ayu. As the investigation deepened, more and more clues pointed to Gu Yanting, forcing the police to re-examine the case.
V. The Truth Gradually Emerges and Gu Yanting's Struggle
Gu Yanting never expected that Ayu could find a way out of a desperate situation. As the police reopened the investigation, he began to feel uneasy. He tried to destroy some evidence related to the setup, but it was too late.
During the investigation, police discovered communication records between Gu Yanting and Lin Kun, which explicitly mentioned a plan to frame Ayu. At the same time, it was also revealed that Gu Yanting had bribed an informant within the police station.
Faced with this irrefutable evidence, Gu Yanting found himself in a predicament. He tried to deny it, claiming he had been framed, but the evidence was so conclusive that no one believed him. His reputation in the business world plummeted, and the stock price of the Gu Group also dropped sharply. The once high-ranking figure was now like a trapped beast, struggling under the dual pressure of public opinion and the law.
