I. The Beginning of the Storm
The morning sunlight filtered through the dappled leaves, casting its glow on the seemingly peaceful city. However, a bombshell announcement, like a boulder thrown into a lake, instantly stirred up a storm—Lin Wanqing had turned herself in.
Reporters from major media outlets swarmed the police station like sharks smelling blood. Cameras were set up, flashes went off constantly, all trying to capture every detail of this shocking moment. On social media, the topic instantly topped the trending searches, and online discussions surged like a tidal wave, with all sorts of speculations and conjectures spreading rampantly in cyberspace.
On the other side of the city, in a luxurious penthouse apartment in the city center, Gu Yanting sat leisurely on a leather sofa, a freshly brewed cup of coffee in his hand, watching the news rolling on the television, a smug smile playing on his lips. In his view, Lin Wanqing's surrender undoubtedly placed all the blame on him; he was confident of victory, and everything was proceeding according to his plan.
"Hmph, this foolish woman, in the end she obediently took the blame for me." Gu Yanting muttered to himself, his eyes full of contempt. He put down his coffee cup, picked up his phone, and dialed his lawyer's number.
"Hey, Lao Chen, you know about Lin Wanqing turning herself in, right? Make sure this matter is resolved smoothly and without any mistakes. I don't want any accidents to happen." Gu Yanting's tone was calm and steady, exuding an unquestionable authority.
"Mr. Gu, rest assured, everything is under control. I've already spoken to the police station, and this case will be closed soon without affecting you in any way," the lawyer on the other end of the phone quickly replied.
"Very good, do a good job. You'll get your share of the benefits once it's done." Gu Yanting hung up the phone with satisfaction, leaned back on the sofa, and imagined himself completely free of trouble, continuing his carefree future.
II. Undercurrents
However, what Gu Yanting was unaware of was that an undercurrent was quietly brewing behind his back.
Inside the police station, Zhao Gang, the captain of the criminal investigation team in charge of Lin Wanqing's case, was frowning as he carefully reviewed the materials Lin Wanqing had provided when she surrendered herself. Although some of the evidence in these materials seemed to be against her, Zhao Gang, with his years of experience in handling cases, keenly sensed something amiss.
"Xiao Li, come here for a second," Zhao Gang called out to the young police officer next to him.
"Captain Zhao, what's the matter?" Xiao Li walked over quickly.
“Look at these materials. The so-called evidence of crimes provided by Lin Wanqing doesn’t stand up to scrutiny in many places. Moreover, there are some contradictions in her confession, which doesn’t seem like the behavior of someone who genuinely wants to turn themselves in and confess,” Zhao Gang said, pointing to the materials.
"Captain Zhao, do you mean there's a problem here?" Xiao Li asked doubtfully.
“Yes, I suspect she’s taking the blame for someone else.” Zhao Gang said seriously. “We can’t jump to conclusions. We need to investigate this case thoroughly and not overlook any detail.”
Meanwhile, Ah Yu and Zhong Hua were not idle either. They knew that there must be a secret behind Lin Wanqing's surrender, and the two decided to use their own strength to uncover the truth and clear Lin Wanqing's name.
“Zhong Hua, we can’t let Wanqing’s sacrifice be in vain. We must find evidence to prove that she was framed,” Ah Yu said with a determined look in her eyes.
“Yes, I know. Where should we begin our investigation?” Zhong Hua asked.
“Let’s start with Gu Yanting. His relationship with Wanqing is complicated, and he’s definitely involved,” Ah Yu said after a moment of thought. “We need to find a way to collect evidence of his crimes. Only by bringing him down can we truly save Wanqing.”
III. Initial Signs
Ah Yu and Zhong Hua began searching everywhere for clues related to Gu Yanting. They visited former employees and business partners of Gu Yanting's company, and even risked sneaking into Gu Yanting's office in an attempt to find some useful information.
After a painstaking investigation, they finally made some progress. A former employee of Gu Yanting's company revealed to them that Gu Yanting had been involved in some commercial bribery and illegal bidding activities, and that they might have relevant evidence.
“However, obtaining this evidence is not easy,” the former employee said worriedly. “Gu Yanting keeps these things very close to his heart. They are all stored in the basement of his private villa, which is heavily guarded and ordinary people cannot get in at all.”
"Thank you for the information. We'll try our best to help," Ah Yu said gratefully.
Back home, Ah Yu and Zhong Hua began discussing how to infiltrate Gu Yanting's villa. They knew it was an extremely dangerous operation, but for Lin Wanqing's sake, they had no other choice.
“Zhong Hua, this mission is very dangerous. You stay at home, I'll go alone.” Ah Yu looked at Zhong Hua, her eyes filled with worry.
“No, I want to go with you. We are a team, and we must face difficulties together. Besides, more people mean more strength,” Zhong Hua said firmly.
Ah Yu knew she couldn't persuade Zhong Hua, so she had no choice but to nod in agreement. The two began to meticulously plan their actions, preparing to face the upcoming challenge.
Just as Ah Yu and Zhong Hua were preparing to take action, there was new progress at the police station. Through his in-depth investigation of Lin Wanqing's case, Zhao Gang discovered some clues related to Gu Yanting. He decided to launch a secret investigation into Gu Yanting to see how many unknown secrets were hidden behind this seemingly successful entrepreneur.
IV. Dangers Lurk Everywhere
Night fell, the sky was pitch black, devoid of moonlight. Under the cover of darkness, Ah Yu and Zhong Hua quietly approached Gu Yanting's villa. They carefully evaded the patrolling security guards, successfully scaled the wall, and slipped into the villa's garden.
