However, their operation was not without its challenges. Although Gu Yanting was imprisoned, his influence outside remained deeply entrenched. During one of his investigations, Ah Yu narrowly escaped an attack by unidentified assailants. That night, he was walking alone in a dimly lit alley when several shadowy figures suddenly sprang from a corner, wielding clubs and lunging at him. Ah Yu fought back desperately, sustaining multiple injuries, but he never gave up. Ultimately, through sheer willpower, he managed to escape his attackers.
"Ayu, are you alright!" Zhong Hua cried out in distress when he saw the injured Ayu.
Ah Yu wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth and forced a smile: "I'm fine, this little injury is nothing, we can't give up."
IV. Dawn
After countless days and nights of hard work, Ah Yu and Zhong Hua finally made some progress. Through a former business partner, Ah Yu obtained an important document that recorded some of Gu Yanting's illegal business transactions. Although it was not enough to completely prove Lin Wanqing's innocence, it was a crucial breakthrough.
Zhong Hua found a report in the newspaper's old archives about Gu Yanting's early business activities. The report vaguely mentioned some shady methods, which corroborated the clues they currently had. "Look, this clue might be able to help Wanqing," Zhong Hua excitedly said to A Yu.
With these newly discovered clues, they immediately contacted the police in charge of Lin Wanqing's case. The police took the clues they provided very seriously, began to re-examine the case, and intensified their efforts to collect evidence of Gu Yanting's crimes.
"The clues you provided are very important. We will investigate thoroughly and believe we will have results soon," the officer in charge of the case said seriously.
A glimmer of hope ignited in Ah Yu and Zhong Hua's hearts; they knew they were one step closer to the truth coming to light.
V. A New Crisis
However, Gu Yanting's remaining followers noticed Ah Yu and Zhong Hua's actions. Unwilling to accept defeat, they decided to take revenge on the two. One day, on her way home from get off work, Zhong Hua discovered she was being followed by a black sedan. Her heart tightened, and she quickened her pace, but the car remained firmly in her line.
"What should I do..." Zhong Hua's heart pounded. She tried to stay calm, pulling out her phone to call the police while searching for a crowded place. Just then, the car suddenly accelerated, trying to force Zhong Hua to stop. At the critical moment, Ah Yu appeared, driving his car violently into the pursuing sedan, stopping their advance.
