Ayu frowned and said, "Could this torn-off part be the key to the whole mystery?"
After a moment of contemplation, Zhong Hua said, "It's very possible. Perhaps we can look for clues from other aspects, such as the brand and place of origin of this pocket watch. Maybe we can find some clues there."
So they began searching online for information about the pocket watch. After some effort, they finally found some information about this brand of pocket watches. It turned out that this brand of pocket watches was very popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, mainly produced in Switzerland. Furthermore, each pocket watch from this brand had a unique serial number, which could be used to find information about its production and original owner.
Zhong Hua and A Yu were overjoyed. They carefully examined the serial number on the pocket watch and then contacted the official customer service of the watch brand through various channels. After some communication, customer service said they could help them find relevant information about the pocket watch, but it would take some time to search the records.
While waiting for a response from customer service, Zhong Hua and A Yu continued to study the logbook and other items. They discovered that the logbook also recorded information about transactions and people encountered at various ports. Among them, one name appeared repeatedly—Old Chen.
Ayu pointed to the record in the log and said, "This old Chen seems to have a close relationship with the navigators. Maybe he knows something about this pocket watch and the navigation box."
Zhong Hua nodded in agreement, saying, "We can try starting with these ports to see if we can find any clues about Lao Chen."
So they began contacting relevant agencies and personnel in the port cities mentioned in the old ship's log through various means. After some twists and turns, they finally found an old man who had worked at an old dock in Qingdao for many years. The old man still had some memory of what happened back then. He told Zhong Hua and A Yu that Old Chen was an experienced sailor who had worked on many ships. But later, Old Chen suddenly disappeared, and no one knew where he went.
Just as Zhong Hua and A Yu were feeling somewhat disappointed, the watch brand's customer service finally responded. They told them that the original owner of the pocket watch was a sailing enthusiast named Lin Yuanhang. In 1992, Lin Yuanhang purchased the watch and embarked on a long sea voyage with it. However, after that voyage, Lin Yuanhang disappeared without a trace.
Zhong Hua and A Yu stared at the information, their hearts filled with questions. Was Lin Yuanhang the same person as the navigator in the logbook? Why had he disappeared? And how did all of this connect to their time watching the Milky Way at Namtso Lake?
They decided to investigate further and were determined to unravel the mystery. Based on the information provided by customer service, they began searching for Lin Yuanhang's family and friends. After much effort, they finally found an old friend of Lin Yuanhang's. This friend told them that Lin Yuanhang had become somewhat strange after returning from that voyage, always saying he had experienced inexplicable things. Furthermore, he mentioned a mysterious place where time and space seemed to be distorted.
Zhong Hua and A Yu felt a chill run down their spines as they listened to these words. Could this mysterious place be somehow connected to the nautical chest and pocket watch they had discovered? They decided to follow in Lin Yuanhang's footsteps to find that mysterious place and unravel the mystery that had troubled them for so long.
So, Zhong Hua and A Yu packed their bags and embarked on their journey to find the mysterious place. Following some vague clues provided by Lin Yuanhang's old friend, they traveled south to a remote seaside town. The town appeared quaint and peaceful, yet it was permeated with an air of mystery.
In the small town, they inquired everywhere about Lin Yuanhang and the mysterious place. Finally, they obtained some useful information from an old fisherman. The old fisherman told them that on a deserted island not far from the town, strange phenomena were said to occur. People had seen strange lights and heard mysterious sounds there.
Zhong Hua and A Yu decided to go to the deserted island to find out what was going on. They rented a small boat and headed towards the island. As the boat approached the island, they saw that it was covered with lush trees and had strangely shaped rocks. The reefs on the shore had peculiar shapes, as if they had been sculpted by some mysterious force.
They cautiously landed on the deserted island and walked along a narrow path into the island. Suddenly, Ayu pointed to a rock ahead and said, "Look, the patterns on that rock look just like the seashell patterns in the ship's log!"
Upon closer inspection, Zhong Hua indeed discovered that the patterns on the stone were remarkably similar to the seashell patterns recorded in the nautical logbook. Was this merely a coincidence? They continued on their journey, their doubts deepening.
As they walked, they came to the front of a cave. A faint mist filled the cave, and a strange sound could be heard from within, as if someone were chanting softly.
Zhong Hua and A Yu exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with determination. They mustered their courage and entered the cave. The cave was dimly lit; they could only barely see their surroundings with the help of their flashlights.
Suddenly, Zhong Hua slipped and nearly fell. Looking down, he saw some strange symbols and patterns on the ground. These symbols and patterns looked like some kind of ancient script, but he had never seen them before.
Ayu squatted down and carefully observed the symbols and patterns. Suddenly, she said, "Look, the way these patterns are arranged seems to be similar to the star map we saw when we looked at the Milky Way at Namtso Lake."
