Episode 325: The Silent Xiu

Guardians in the Depths of Time

Chapter 1: The Tragedy of the Tripod

Ah Yu sat in his messy studio, looking frustrated. In front of him was his beloved camera tripod, now broken in one leg, lying limply to one side like a wounded soldier. He held tools in his hands, tightening screws and trying to piece it back together. After struggling for a long time, fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead, but the tripod still looked sickly and couldn't be restored to its original stable state.

"Hmph, what a piece of junk!" Ah Yu angrily threw the tripod into the corner, the loud crash seeming like a roar of frustration. He slumped into his chair, staring at the broken tripod in the corner, feeling utterly depressed. This tripod had accompanied him to many places, capturing countless beautiful moments, and now it was in this state, like an old friend had suddenly collapsed, leaving him both helpless and heartbroken.

Zhong Hua watched all this silently from the side, a hint of heartache in his eyes. However, he didn't say anything, but turned around and continued to tend to his flowers and plants. He held a spray bottle in his hand and gently sprinkled water on the cactus. The water droplets rolled on the cactus's thorns, reflecting a crystal-clear light. But most of his thoughts were on Ah Yu.

Chapter Two: The Unexpected Repair

The next morning, sunlight streamed through the cracks in the window into the studio, casting a soft golden glow over the room. Ah Yu, rubbing his sleepy eyes, entered the studio, ready to tidy up and begin his day's work. But when his gaze inadvertently fell upon the corner where the tripod stood, he froze, completely stunned.

The tripod, which had previously had a broken leg, now stood firmly on its frame, the joint wrapped with brand-new insulating tape, layer upon layer, neatly arranged. The tape gleamed faintly in the sunlight, as if telling a story of meticulous repair. Ah Yu stared wide-eyed, unable to believe what he was seeing. He quickly walked over, squatted down, and carefully examined the tape-wrapped joint.

Just then, Zhong Hua walked over carrying a cactus, pretending to water it casually, but his eyes were secretly glancing at Ah Yu. He said, "The old man who repairs bicycles downstairs taught me this. He said this tape is shock-resistant, so I tried to fix it for you. I don't know if it will work." Ah Yu didn't say anything, but just reached out and gently touched the raised texture of the tape. The touch made his thoughts drift away.

Chapter Three: Ripples of Memories

He suddenly remembered his university days, when they were still young and naive, filled with a deep love for photography. Once, Ah Yu accidentally broke the lens cap. He was heartbroken, but there was nothing he could do, so he could only feel frustrated. The next day, when he took out his camera again, he found that the broken lens cap had been secretly glued back together. Although the crack was still visible upon closer inspection, it worked perfectly.

At that time, Ah Yu was curious about who had done it. He asked around among his classmates, but no one admitted it, so he gradually put the matter aside. But now, touching the tape on the tripod, that familiar feeling welled up inside him. He looked up and stared straight at Zhong Hua, his eyes filled with surprise and emotion. Zhong Hua felt a little uncomfortable under his gaze. He scratched his head, put the cactus on the table, and turned to tidy up the messy photography equipment, muttering, "Why are you looking at me? Hurry up and try out that tripod to see if it still works."

Ah Yu stood up, carefully mounted the camera on the tripod, adjusted the angle, and found it to be very stable. A warm feeling welled up in his heart, and he said to Zhong Hua's back, "Thank you, Zhong Hua." Zhong Hua's hand paused for a moment, then he replied casually, "No need to thank me, it's nothing, as long as it works."

Chapter Four: Daily Companionship

From then on, every time Ah Yu used a tripod, he would think of Zhong Hua's quiet act of fixing it for him, and his gratitude towards Zhong Hua deepened. As for Zhong Hua, he continued to quietly accompany Ah Yu as always, whether they were going out to take photos or organizing photos and studying photography techniques in the studio, the two were always inseparable.

Once, they went to the countryside to photograph the sunrise. It was still dark, and only the two of them, carrying heavy photography equipment, trudged up the mountain, their steps uneven. Ah Yu accidentally stepped on a rock and almost fell. Zhong Hua quickly caught him, teasingly saying, "You rascal, be careful! If you get hurt, no one will take those nice photos for me!" Ah Yu rolled his eyes at him and laughed, "You're just being cheeky. It's all for taking good photos, isn't it?"

As they reached the mountaintop, the sky gradually turned a pale white, and vibrant colors slowly spread across the horizon. Ah Yu excitedly fiddled with his tripod and camera, ready to capture this beautiful moment, while Zhong Hua helped him by handing him filters and adjusting settings; the two worked together seamlessly. As the red sun slowly rose, Ah Yu pressed the shutter button. With a "click," the beautiful scene was captured, a scene that seemed to not only depict the magnificent sunrise but also embody the deep affection between them.

Chapter Five: Stories of the Past

As time went on, Ayu and Zhonghua's photography skills became increasingly refined, and their works began to be exhibited in some small photography exhibitions. Every time Ayu saw his photos hanging on the exhibition wall and being appreciated and praised by people, he felt a great sense of accomplishment, and he knew that this was inseparable from Zhonghua's support and help.

Once, while organizing their old photography work to prepare for an important competition, they came across many photos taken during their university days. In the photos, their faces still held a touch of youthful innocence; some were under cherry blossom trees on campus, others in a corner of the library—each photo carrying a beautiful memory. Ah Yu pointed to a group photo taken during a photography club activity and said to Zhong Hua with a smile, "Do you remember back then? We came up with so many strange and wonderful ideas to take creative photos!"
