The Choice Between Love and Understanding
Chapter 1: A Torn Heart
Ah Yu had been suffering terribly these past few days. The gossip around him was like sharp needles, constantly piercing his heart. His pure feelings for Zhong Hua, somehow, had become, with the embellishments of others, as if they were something shameful. Every time he walked down the street, he felt the strange looks from passersby—looks filled with curiosity and disdain—making his once straight back unconsciously hunch over.
Zhong Hua wasn't much better off. She was a sensitive and thoughtful girl, and after hearing the rumors, she often hid in her room and cried secretly. She was afraid that her relationship with A Yu would bring endless harm to each other, and she even began to intentionally distance herself from A Yu. Every time A Yu sent her a message, she would hesitate for a long time before replying, and her replies were always brief and cold.
Ah Yu noticed Zhong Hua's change, and felt a heavy weight pressing on his heart, making him feel suffocated. He knew he couldn't continue like this; running away wouldn't solve anything. Only by facing it bravely and speaking his mind could they possibly continue. So, he mustered up his courage and messaged Zhong Hua, asking her to meet him.
When Zhong Hua saw the message, she felt a mix of emotions. She was both looking forward to having a good talk with A Yu and afraid of facing everything that was about to be revealed. In the end, however, she went to the appointment with a heavy heart.
The two sat in a quiet cafe by the street, remaining silent for a long while. Ah Yu broke the silence first, looking at Zhong Hua's slightly haggard face, and said with heartache, "Zhong Hua, I know you've suffered a lot these past few days, and so have I. But I've figured it out, no matter what others say or think, I don't want to lose you." As he spoke, his eyes reddened.
Upon hearing this, Zhong Hua burst into tears. She choked out, "Ah Yu, I'm so scared. I'm afraid that if we continue like this, we'll hurt you, hurt myself, and bring shame to our families."
Ah Yu reached out and gently took Zhong Hua's hand, feeling her slightly trembling fingertips, and said earnestly, "None of that matters. As long as we are steadfast in our feelings for each other and face things together, there will always be a way. Our feelings are genuine, so why should we fear other people's gossip?"
Zhong Hua looked at Ah Yu through teary eyes, seeing the determination in his gaze. She slowly nodded and said, "Yes, Ah Yu, I'm willing to face all difficulties with you, as long as we don't separate."
At that moment, it was as if all the noise around them had disappeared, leaving only the deep affection in their eyes and a glimmer of hope for the future.
Chapter Two: The Anxiety of Going Home
After leaving the coffee shop, the two calmed down a bit, but the thought of going back to talk to their families about it made them anxious again.
When Ah Yu got home, he saw his parents sitting in the living room watching TV. He hesitated for a long time before walking up to them and saying cautiously, "Mom and Dad, there's something I want to tell you."
Ah Yu's parents exchanged a glance, and seeing their son's serious and nervous expression, they had a bad feeling. Ah Yu's father frowned and asked, "What's wrong, son? Just say it."
Ah Yu took a deep breath and mustered his courage to tell Zhong Hua about his relationship and all the rumors circulating outside. Finally, he looked at his parents and said sincerely, "Mom and Dad, I know this may be difficult for you, but I truly love Zhong Hua and I don't want to give up like this. I hope you can understand me and support me."
Upon hearing this, Ah Yu's parents' faces turned extremely grim. Ah Yu's mother spoke first, saying, "Son, how could you be with her? The rumors outside are so awful; don't we care about our family's reputation anymore? Besides, we don't even know if that girl is right for you."
Ah Yu hurriedly defended herself, "Mom, Zhong Hua is a good girl. Those rumors are all made up by others. We are truly in love."
Ah Yu's father said with a serious expression, "We need to think this over carefully. Don't say anything more. We're very confused." After saying that, he got up and went back to his room. Ah Yu's mother followed him in, leaving Ah Yu alone in the living room, feeling utterly disappointed.
Zhong Hua's situation was similar. After returning home, she hesitated for a long time before telling her parents about it. Her parents were furious upon hearing this, feeling that their daughter was bringing shame to their family, and resolutely opposed her continuing her relationship with A Yu. Zhong Hua cried and begged her parents, praising A Yu and their feelings for each other, but her parents wouldn't listen. They just kept telling her to break off all contact with A Yu immediately.
That night, Ah Yu and Zhong Hua tossed and turned in bed, unable to fall asleep. They were both suffering because of their families' lack of understanding, yet they didn't want to give up on each other easily.
Chapter Three: Su Yao's Confession
Meanwhile, Su Yao was also facing her own troubles. Her relationship with Ah Yu and Zhong Hua was originally one of pure appreciation and mutual help, but to outsiders, it seemed to involve some kind of illicit affair. Her husband had also heard some rumors, and although he didn't say anything, Su Yao could sense his growing suspicion, making their relationship somewhat strained.
Su Yao felt that this situation couldn't continue, so she decided to have a deep conversation with her husband. One evening, after the children had fallen asleep, Su Yao pulled her husband to sit on the sofa, looked into his eyes, and said earnestly, "Honey, I want to have a serious talk with you about Ah Yu and Zhong Hua."
