Su Yao's husband looked at everyone, took a deep breath, and broke the silence first. He cleared his throat and slowly said, "Uncles and aunts, the reason I've gathered you all here today is to clarify things between Su Yao, Ah Yu, and Zhong Hua. There are a lot of rumors circulating outside, but they're all baseless. Since Su Yao met Ah Yu and Zhong Hua, it's truly just out of admiration and a desire to help them. Ah Yu and Zhong Hua are capable and ambitious in their careers, and Su Yao just wanted to lend them a hand. We're all kind-hearted people, but we never expected to be misunderstood."
Su Yao quickly added, "Mom and Dad, Uncle and Aunt, I really just felt sorry for them and wanted to help them in their development. I didn't mean anything by it. Now that things have turned out like this, I feel bad too. I hope everyone can understand us and not be misled by what others are saying."
At first, the elders listened to them with skeptical and serious expressions, but as Su Yao and her husband's account became more detailed and sincere, their expressions gradually softened, and their attitudes were no longer as harsh as when they first entered the door.
Ah Yu's parents exchanged a glance, and Ah Yu's father said, "Su Yao, after hearing what you said, we roughly understand. It's probably just rumors from outsiders that have complicated things. But when it comes to matters of the heart, we're still worried that Ah Yu might suffer in the future."
Zhong Hua's parents chimed in, "Yes, we're worried about Hua Hua too. It's heartbreaking to see a girl get hurt in a relationship."
Su Yao quickly said, "Uncle and Aunt, I understand your concerns. Actually, Ah Yu and Zhong Hua are both very determined people and have the ability to face those difficulties. As elders, perhaps we can try to give them some trust and support."
As everyone engaged in heartfelt conversation, the atmosphere at the dinner table gradually eased. Although the elders' concerns hadn't been completely dispelled, at least everyone was beginning to approach the matter calmly, which was a good start.
Chapter Three: Perseverance and Wavering
Back home, Ah Yu sat alone in his room, his heart heavy as he recalled his parents' still worried faces. Although the atmosphere at the dinner table had eased somewhat, he knew that his parents hadn't completely let go of their concerns, and that he would need to put in more effort to truly gain their support.
He took out his phone and sent a message to Zhong Hua: "Hua, I talked to Mom and Dad today, and they're still a little worried, but I won't give up. How are things on your end?"
Zhong Hua quickly replied, "Me too. My parents were somewhat moved by what I said, but they still didn't quite agree. However, like you, I will definitely persevere."
Seeing Zhong Hua's reply, Ah Yu felt a surge of warmth in her heart, which also strengthened her resolve. However, as time went by, the rumors from the outside world did not stop; instead, they frequently reached their ears. Those harsh words were like thorns, piercing their hearts and causing their families even more worry.
Seeing their son under so much pressure every day, Ah Yu's parents felt increasingly distressed and repeatedly urged him to break up with Zhong Hua, suggesting they wait until things calmed down. Ah Yu firmly refused each time, but deep down he couldn't help feeling weary and wavering. He began to doubt whether his persistence was truly the right thing to do, whether he was causing his parents too much pain and putting endless pressure on Zhong Hua.
Zhong Hua was in the same boat. Her family's words of advice echoed in her ears, and seeing the disappointed yet heartbroken looks in her parents' eyes, her heart felt like it was being torn apart. Sometimes, she wondered if she was being too selfish, only caring about her own feelings and neglecting her family's. Perhaps a temporary separation would be a better choice.
When the two met again, their former ease and joy seemed to be shrouded in a gloom, vanished without a trace. Their faces both carried a hint of heaviness and helplessness. They remained silent, simply holding hands, as if trying to draw strength from each other, yet their palms seemed to exude a chill.
Su Yao noticed their unusual behavior and was very worried. She asked Ah Yu and Zhong Hua to meet her. Seeing their dejected appearance, she said with heartache, "You two can't be defeated like this. I know it's difficult right now, but as long as you persevere, your family will eventually understand."
Ah Yu said with a bitter smile, "Sister Su Yao, we also want to persevere, but seeing our family members in so much pain makes us feel terrible too. We really don't know what to do."
Zhong Hua nodded, her eyes red-rimmed, tears welling up in them.
Su Yao sighed and said, "I understand your difficulties, but if you give up now, you'll definitely regret it later. Relationships are not easy to come by, and you can't back down when you encounter difficulties. Let's think of a solution together, communicate more with your families, and let them see your determination and sincerity towards each other."
Upon hearing Su Yao's words, Ah Yu and Zhong Hua raised their heads slightly, a small flame of hope rekindling in their eyes. They knew they couldn't give up so easily; no matter how difficult the road ahead, they had to try their best for this relationship.
Chapter Four: Communicate Again, Try Again
Ah Yu decided to have another serious talk with his parents. He carefully chose a weekend, bought his parents' favorite fruits and snacks, and when he got home, he took the initiative to help his parents with housework and chatted with them about everyday things, trying to create a relaxed atmosphere first.
Once her parents seemed to be in a better mood, Ah Yu cautiously began to speak: "Mom and Dad, I know you've been worried about Zhong Hua and me. I've thought about it a lot these past few days, but I still believe that we truly love each other. Those rumors are just temporary. We can't give up our happiness because of what others say."
