Episode 41: Difficult Communication with Family

Upholding Sincerity

Chapter 1: A Difficult Beginning

Ah Yu dragged his heavy steps home, repeatedly considering how to broach the subject with his parents. The words he had prepared swirled in his mind, yet none of them seemed quite right. He took a deep breath, pushed open the door, and saw his parents sitting in the living room watching television. The sound from the television seemed particularly jarring at that moment, making his heartbeat all the more audible.

"Mom and Dad, I have something I want to tell you." Ah Yu spoke cautiously, her voice tinged with nervousness.

Hearing the sound, her parents turned around and looked at Ah Yu's slightly serious expression. After exchanging a glance, they turned off the TV, their eyes full of doubt and concern.

"What's wrong, son? Did you run into some trouble at work?" his mother asked first, her voice gentle but making Ah Yu's heart ache even more.

Ah Yu slowly walked to the sofa and sat down. He lowered his head, remained silent for a moment, then mustered his courage, raised his head, looked into his parents' eyes, and recounted the deep affection between him and Zhong Hua in detail, from their initial acquaintance to the countless moments they had shared. Those beautiful memories, as they flowed from his lips, felt like a heavy burden. He also mentioned the harsh rumors and gossip circulating outside, and the pressure that came with them.

As the parents listened, their expressions gradually became serious, their brows furrowed, and their faces were full of worry. The father sighed heavily and said, "Son, you know that as your parents, we all hope that your future will be smooth sailing. With you and Zhong Hua, there are already so many rumors going around; who knows how many troubles you'll encounter in the future? You really need to think this through carefully."

Looking at his parents' worried faces, Ah Yu felt a pang of pain in his heart, but he still looked at them firmly, his eyes revealing an unwavering determination, and reiterated his feelings: "Mom and Dad, I know you mean well, but Zhong Hua and I are truly in love. We can face and overcome those rumors together. I hope you can understand me and support me. Without your blessings, I always feel empty inside."

After hearing Ah Yu's words, her parents fell silent for a moment, but their tightly furrowed brows remained unchanged. The atmosphere in the living room seemed to freeze, so oppressive that it was hard to breathe.

Meanwhile, Zhong Hua was also going through a difficult conversation. After returning home, she sat in her room for a long time, her heart pounding like a rabbit's. She knew she could no longer hide this from her family; she had to tell them the truth, even if it meant facing their opposition.

She mustered her courage, stepped out of her room, and went to the living room. Seeing that her parents were there, she bit her lip and said, "Mom and Dad, there's something I want to tell you."

Seeing Zhong Hua's unusual expression, his parents immediately had a bad feeling. His father frowned and asked, "What's wrong, Hua Hua? Has something happened?"

Zhong Hua's eyes instantly reddened, tears welling up. She fought back the tears, her voice choked with emotion, and began to tell her family about her relationship with A Yu. She spoke of the happy times they had spent together, the difficult days they had overcome with mutual encouragement and support, and their shared determination to stand firm in the face of rumors from the outside world.

Upon hearing this, Zhong Hua's family members were shocked, and a wave of worry washed over them. Her mother grabbed Zhong Hua's hand and said anxiously, "Hua Hua, how could you be so foolish? People are saying all this; what will become of your reputation? Relationships are not something to be taken lightly. You should break up with him quickly, or you'll get even more deeply involved."

Zhong Hua was in tears. She held her mother's hand tightly, as if grasping at the last glimmer of hope, and said in a voice that was trembling with sobs but extremely firm, "Mom, I know you're worried about me, but I love Yu, and I believe we can face all difficulties together. I don't want to give up on this relationship like this. Please understand me."

Seeing Zhong Hua's resolute appearance, her family was somewhat moved, but their concerns remained. Only Zhong Hua's low sobs filled the living room, creating a heavy and oppressive atmosphere.

Chapter Two: The Relaxed Dinner

Meanwhile, Su Yao and her husband had a long talk in their room. Her husband initially had a furrowed brow, harboring much dissatisfaction and worry about the impact of the rumors circulating outside.

"Su Yao, why are you doing this to yourself? We were living a good life, but now because of this, the rumors are so awful, and it's making me feel terrible," her husband said helplessly.

Su Yao looked at her husband, gently took his hand, and said sincerely, "I know this matter has caused you distress, but the relationship between Ah Yu, Zhong Hua, and me is truly pure friendship. I admire their talent and character, which is why I wanted to help them. Now that there's so much misunderstanding from the outside world, we can't just let others say what they want. I'm thinking of inviting both sets of parents together for a meal to clarify things properly. What do you think?"

The husband was silent for a while, looking into Su Yao's sincere eyes, and finally nodded, saying, "Okay, let's give it a try. Hopefully, we can resolve this matter."

So Su Yao began arranging the dinner, inviting Ah Yu's parents and Zhong Hua's parents. On the appointed day, everyone arrived at the restaurant's private room with mixed feelings.

As soon as everyone sat down, the atmosphere in the private room became extremely tense, as if the air itself had frozen. Everyone was restless, and no one knew who should speak first to break the silence.
